  1. The ESPN Game Day crew just gave Hartline a helmet sticker. Hopefully tonight's game gave him some much needed confidence (especially throwing the long ball). Having Cobb as a regular receiver will give Hartline at least one reliable target, something that Hartline hasn't had all season. I admit that Kentucky hasn't taken advantage of every situation this season, but we are 5-2 and lost 2 SEC games by a total of 10 points, one of them to the #2 team in the country. There was a time in the not to distant past that UK's fanbase would be overjoyed by this. Just like the team, the fans need to stay positive!

  2. IMO the fans were booing the coach's decision not Hartline...

If you boo the coach for playing Hartline then you are basically booing the player. At least that is how Hartline probably felt. I agree that Cobb is playing well right now, but it is only Hartline's second start. To boo Hartline (or Brooks for playing Hartline) is bushleague at this point in the season.

  3. Actually, the move was because he no longer was employed in Ashland and had to look elsewhere to sustain his family, the move was not motivated by basketball. He chose SC because of the program there. Again, doesn't go against the criteria. He changed residences, not just down the road, but 2 hours from his original home. Move was completely within the rules. And unless Pam was gonna homeschool him, he had to pick a school.

Not sure I agree with this. Euton's father publicly admitted in print that his son's choosing of Scott County was "in part" due to their basketball program. This clearly violates the KHSAA bylaws. Personally, I think that the KHSAA transfer rule needs a major overhaul and much needed clarification, and I personally don't have a problem with Euton and Jackson playing at Scott Co. However, either enforce the rules or rewrite them (which I would love to see). I don't see how Euton can be found eligible with the way the rules are NOW written. I was hoping that the Daily Independent article would shed some light on the KHSAA reasoning for overturning the original decision, but none was given. Could it be that the board also realizes that the current transfer rule is not feasible so they are just taking matters in their own hands. If this is the case, why have written bylaws at all.

  4. Not great depth, but there are some girls that can play. The biggest hit this off season, Haley Abrams, she tore her ACL and has had surgery to repair it, but will miss her sophomore season.

Thanks for the info. Raceland has certainly been hit by the injury bug the last few years. Here's hoping that the Lady Rams are injury free for the rest of next saeson.

  5. I would have agree with you a year ago, but Lewis, Wilson, and Keeton have come a long way. I expect Raceland to be pretty balanced this season.

Don't get me wrong, we need Vanderhoof, and it would be very hard without her. But, I think some of the pressure is off of her now.

I agree that these three have elevated their games and should win some games for Raceland this coming season. How does Raceland's bench strength look?

  6. No clarification needed, you know more about the Ashland program than me.

What about Russell? Are they playing in the Raceland League? I am sure Reed is already whipping them into shape.

Russell had signed up for the league, but hasn't made an appearance yet. Elliott County has taken their place the last few nights. I'm not sure if Russell is officially out yet or not. Reed is definitely "old school". If the girls buy in to his methods they will definitely be a hard-nosed group which will serve them well, especailly late in the season.

  7. I have never said that Bradley didn't love Basketball and the Ashland girls. I have my reasons for stating this and I believe that I am justified by my statements.

I am not always right on my predictions. I am just about 90%.

Bradley is a great person. When he first took this group of girls they steadily progressed into a good team. This was a five year process for this current group of girls. Trust me, he will not spend another five years nor will he be there for the current crop of 7th and 8th graders by the time they are High Schoolers. Good Luck to Russell and Reed and Ashland and Bradley.

My comments are not degrading in nature and I hope that they are not taken that way but I stand by my posts. :thumb:

I read nothing degrading about your posts. But Bradley will be the Ashland coach for the next 5 to 7 years, (if it is up to him - remember no coaching job is secure). You are entitled to your opinion, but in this case my sources are better than yours - GUARANTEED!:p

  8. Didn't mean anything bad by that comment about Kidwell, he advanced himself. I think Kidwell will do fine with the boys but he knew when to leave. I will say the same for the Kittens, if they don't go to Diddle this year then Bradley will probably step down. He is a very good coach but that is my prediction.

Why do you say this. Unless something unforeseen happens I see Bradley coaching til retirement. From what I've seen, Bradley truly loves the game of basketball and the girls at Ashland. Also Bradley has done a good job of building the Ashland program from the the Ashland elementary schools and Verity up throught the high school. With the young talent in the pipeline, the Kittens should be contenders for the next 4 or 5 years. Why would he leave?

  9. I got a strong feeling that people will be surprised at the Rose Hill girls this year. People are selling them a little short I believe.

    Time will tell.

I would have to know RH's schedule next year before I could make any prediction of wins and losses. A tough schedule (or lack of it) can give or take away wins. Besides district opponents, has RH's schedule been finalized? If it has, can anyone tell me what it is?

  10. They are two that for sure have the talent and 2 or 3 more that could develope it. But they are so young id rather not say. Girls will suprise you in just a couple of years they all could be great. There is some talent, there just young.

I understand why you may not want to give the names of some reaaly young players. :thumb: Rose Hill girls may have a bright future, its just hard to judge young talent. The one thing that could hurt Rose Hill is that they have no 4 or 5 position players in the system (at least none that I know of). Also since some of these girls are so young, these days you never know if they will remain at the same school, reach their true potential, or find other activities that take their focus away from basketball. This is not an observation just about RH girls basketball, but for all schools that are depending on really young girls as the foundation of their programs. But whatever the future holds, good luck to RH in the next few years .

  11. Overworked??? I would take a teacher's schedule over mine any day. Now underpaid, that I will give you.

Many of my good friends are teachers and it amazes me how much time they spend in their classrooms or at home "after school hours". Some people think that a good teachers job is only from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM each day. Most good teachers (note that I said good here) are in the classroom or doing work at home (grading, lesson plans, etc...) at least 10 extra hours (if not more) per week. Also many teachers work a lot in their classrooms in the summer.

There are definitely perks to the job of teaching, but for what these people do - they deserve them! If it was an easy or "cake" job everybody would do it
