  1. Only one junior really stands out in the 8th Region this year as a player who should almost certainly be a dominant player next year as a senior - not just a "good" player - and he's already a dominant stud, and that's LOGAN DUNBAR of Spencer County.

I can't say that I've seen every junior yet this season, but of the ones I've seen, it's not even a close contest. This kid's been a stud for a couple of years now...he averaged a double-double last year, is doing so again this year, and should cross the 1,000 point / 1,000 rebound club this year - with another year to come.

He's a strong kid (TE on the Spencer football team) who runs the court well, shoots the jumper, and bangs inside with the biggest of the bigs... The only reason nobody's mentioned him on this thread so far is because BGP is overwhelmingly NKY folks, and Spencer rarely makes it to the region due to being in a district with Anderson and Shelby.

Two other juniors who bear watching, both are potentially explosive and possible all-region performers next year:

Pete "Jacorri" Baldwin, Henry County - quick and aggressive on both ends of the court. Can hurt you in a lot of ways.

Carson Fields, South Oldham - gets lost on a team with 8 seniors - but is the lone underclassman to start. Originally known as a defensive stopper with his quick feet and long arms, Fields is fantastic on the front of the defense. But Fields has uncorked a solid offensive game, able to score inside / outside. Almost single-handedly kept South in the game against North on Tuesday, and finished 8 of 11 from the field, including 2 of 2 beyond the arc, and 2 of 2 at the line for 21 points.

Those three players, IMO, stand out among all the rest of the 2011 class.

I'm a huge Justin Webb fan, but he's not averaging a double-double (actual averages are 12.5 ppg and 8.1 rebounds), and he has been stymied when he's played better teams. He's 100% hustle, and one of the better players in the region...but will have to have better games against the top teams of the 8th in order to merit this kind of consideration...

I'd like to see Dre Banta...I've heard a lot of great things about this kid, but am wondering how he's done against Shelby and Anderson in district seeding games...(anyone?)

All five of these players are among the best of the class of 2011 in the 8th region, but truthfully, this class isn't very deep when you're talking about truly elite players.

Pete Baldwin is a senior. Is younger cousin, Tybirious "Spud" Baldwin is a junior at HC and he runs the point for the Wildcats this season.

  2. I dont think you can markdown NIT if UL loses. They always seem to close the season out strong. I see them losing and still getting in on the bubble. They will beat 2-3 top 25 teams and make a run at the end of the season. I am not a fan of UL at all, but they always seem to peak at the end of the season IMO.

  3. Today's trivial statistic...

Against its 13 Kentucky opponents, Oldham County has held 11 below their season average in points, including South Oldham and Shelby County...

This is pretty typical of Jason Holland coached teams. I have no doubt in my mind that he will have Oldham back on top once his players get the system and come back from injuries this team should be very tough down the road I hope to see them take down NO this week. Wish I could be there to watch this one.

  4. He's a tough old school coach. But there are two things you can't say about Bob Knight:

    1. He has never been forced to forfeit a final four

    2. His players graduate

And those are two things you can't say about Calipari. I wouldn't be shocked if UK had as many as 6 players on their team right now that don't graduate.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at Memphis didnt like 20 out of the last 22 seniors to come through there graduate? Thats pretty good in this day and time.

  5. Coach Jon Jones is the major factor in all of this. He is one of the best coaches in the state that nobody's heard of:sssh: . When he finally decides to hang it up at GC, he will be sorely missed. Before he put his stamp on the program, Gallatin was more often than not, considered a non factor at any level. Under his guidance, Gallatin has four 31st District Titles( 99,06,07,08), 8th Region runner up in 2008, 8th Region Semifinalist in 2007, four All "A" 8th Region titles( 99,06,07,08), All "A" State runner up in 1999, All "A" State Quarter finalist in 2007 and 2008, several NCKC Conference Titles. Year in and year out, he gets more out of kids than any coach in the 8th Region.

Well I was corrected before I could even post :thumb:. Its definitely GC.

  6. Im pretty sure they were runners up in Class A state in 2006. Somebody correct me if I am wrong but I know they lost to Brossart who went on to win it. It may have been semifinals though. To be a young adult my memory is slipping fast. In the 2000s though I think it is without question Gallatin County. Jones has really brought that team to the top tier of the 8th and they are contenders each and every year. I hate saying that as a Henry County fan but theres just no other "A" program that has done what GC has done the past decade.

  7. I don't see how anyone can pick UK after watching UNC last night!

I still pick UK because we have a great frontcourt as well. MSU doesnt have much size in their frontcourt, so UNC beat up on them down low. I think that this will be a barn burner. I think UK wins by 2 UK 86-UNC 84. This game is going to be very fast paced.

  8. Clyde......If your headed up when I am you can watch Kentucky vs UCONN like me and wifes family are doing. Tough ticket to get, but were pretty excited about seeing the Cats play in Madison Square Garden that Wednesday Night.

:thumb: Myself and 3 friends are going to that game. I can't wait. Hope to get to see a lot of NYC during my short stay.
