  1. No, not really. Saw both games, and the difference is in bringing your "A" game. First game on a neutral floor SH didn't, the next game at SH, NDA didn't. When you play the better teams, you must be ready...

I didn't mean that NDA shouldn't play downstate teams, although 3ptshooter brought up a rather good point, what I meant was that the Campbell County game shouldn't have been played the night before. It's tough to play a team the night before, that you literally only have to show up to beat, then the next night, have to play (IMO) the best team in the Commonwealth.

I really don't think there was need to say that about Campbell County. They are a tough little team. Yes, I realize that Notre Dame And Boone County are the top 2 teams in Northern Kentucky. But, I think by saying that, you are degrading the Lady Camels' team. And I can guarantee that those girls work just as hard on the floor as Notre Dame girls do.

  2. I kind of found it strange that the dad of the girl that this thread surrounds is assistant principal at another Kenton County School. It sounds as if there is a hint that she may end up there? Not really all that surprising I guess.

If she does go to one of the other Kenton County High Schools, I really would not blame her at all. She is going to be a very good basketball player, and she is a very nice girl in addition to that. However, I do hope that she decides to play for Scott next year. And, I know my daughter who plays for Scott would, love to have her back next year as a teammate.

  3. Can someone please verify for me? If an 8th grader plays and starts varisty her 8th grade year, can she go the following year to a different public school other than the High school that she is playing for, and play basketball. Her family would not be moving, she would just chose to play at another public high school. Or, does she set have to set out a year?

  4. This has to be a let down for Scott after beating a good Harrison Co. team. Campbell County is starting to play and look out. Beat A good Pendleton Co team and now Scott... Look out 10th!

Scott's season for the most part has had a lot of let downs. There have been a few bright spots, including the continued improved play by the 8th grader, Lauren Tibbs, and Shelbi Benzinger, the guard, has some good games as well.

  5. Good game by Lady Camels. Scott was leading after the first quarter 13 t0 4, but the Lady Camels came back. They are a very young group of girls, and very scrappy to say the least, and also very well coached IMO. Once again, Scott continues to struggle. They played so well on Saturday against a good Harrison County team, but last night, they looked like a totally different team.

The 8th grader, Lauren Tibbs, continues to improve every game.

  6. Coach Linda Moore at Scott High School has good knowledge of the game, and a great deal of respect for the girls, and the girls respect her as well. She takes the time when they come off the floor to explain what they did wrong. She used to coach up at Scott years ago, when the current coach used to play for Scott.

  7. Do the girls get along? If so, they should take it upon themselves and band together to try to change the rest of the season around. If they do not get along, then, you all are right, it will be a very long second half of the season.

    good luck

I think for the most part the girls get along, and alot of the girls are friends off the court. The senior on the team provides great leadership, and IMO really tries hard on the court as well. Thanks for kind words. And, at this point, I definitely do not see it getting much worse.

  8. My daughter plays for Scott also and to watch this season unfold is really disappointing. I get a general feeling that the girls are afraid to do anything because they will be taken out of the game. They seem to have lost that enthusiasm for the game. The looks on their face when taken out of the game is "what did I do this time?" They play good one day and then seem to be lost for the next two. The offense is predictable and the shooting is terrible. They seldom run the offense and their big player is the one who inbounds the ball under the basket at the other end of the court, she is seldom in position when the guards throw up a three and miss( shooting 21%). After awhile of this, the girls get tired and don't get back on defense. They lack in fundamentals. The good news is the team is a young team and only has one senior. They could work on what is causeing the divide in the lockerroom and fundamentals for the rest of the year and then come out strong next year. Or, they can ignore it and have the same problem next year. If they problem is not corrected they could be missing a few players.

I agree in that there are some girls on the team lacking fundamentals. I have said that to my daughter, and have asked her in practice, if they work on fundamentals -she says no. You have to know how to make a lay up. There really is not much of an excuse in missing one, but I see it happening all of the time. I also agree that there maybe some girls that do not come back next year, but I believe it will be because of the issues off the court. IMO, if there is a girl out on the floor who consistently plays, but does not hustle the majority of the time, then how can it be fair to the girls and or girls who sit on the bench and constantly see this girl getting away with it for all of the wrong reasons. My daughter has tried to talk to the coach, but to no avail. IMO, it is a sad situation. I do not see a problem with the guards shooting threes if it is a good shot taken, but you can't depend on the threes. It has to be a team effort on and off the court, and that is not happening. I think it has and will continue to be a long season on and off the court for the Scott Lady Eagles.

  9. Scott did not look intouch w/each other. It was like they were all playing one on one. I think they had 36 T.O. which is pretty bad, they did not handle the ball at all. I thought the JV guards did as well as the V guards at handling the press. Boone was just too big and strong w/too much experience for Scott to handle. Scott has some nice looking younger players, the 8th grader(6'2") will be good if someone works w/her. Knowing her father I am sure that will be taken care of.
You are exactly right. Since my daughter plays for Scott, I am very familiar with the team and the players. There are definitely some issues going on behind the scenes. My daughter is to the point where she is afraid to shoot the ball any more, which is not a good thing. I agree that the JV looked much better than the Varsity. And, yes Lauren Tibbs, the 8th grader will definitely be a good player in the years to come. She had helped them this year all ready. I just hope that for Scott's girls basketball team, that she decides to play at Scott next year. As I am sure you know, 3 point shooter, her dad is the principal at another Kenton County School.
  10. :fight: Lady 'Stangs ready to crush Pendleton County and Lloyd Memorial This Week. Looking like the 10th Region Favorite for All A and a Top 25 Team after cruising by Scott 57-41. With an earlier 59-41 spanking of Campbell Co. they only need to beat Calvary for the 37th District No. 1 Seed:dancingpa

I was at the game on Saturday night for Brossart and Scott. Yes, Brossart did beat Scott. However, Scott played very well against them. Steffen had a great night for Brossart. However, Butsch, got into foul trouble, and scored 8 points for the evening. IMO, it was not a cruising.

  11. I was at the game Friday night. Mason County has a great team, not just one girl in particular, but a great team. Scott struggled from the beginning. An 8th grader from Scott had her best game ever scoring a team high 16 points. Shelbi Beninger a 10th grader had a total of 12 points which consisted of 4 3 pointers. It was very enjoyable to watch Mason County play. It is definitely a team effort.

  12. SHS, I agree. The varsity played very little compared to the others players. I think there might be some evaluation going on but it was disappointing with the last scrimmage before a game that the expected regulars played very little together. I don't know about you but it is hard to get a handle on how the team will hold up this year. There was some signs of good things to come in the Newport scrimmage but too much mix in the Paris scrimmage.

I am glad that you agree as well. I know what the coach was trying to do, but at this point and time, I don't think it was a good idea. I know my daughter was frustrated, as I am sure that yours was as well. There is absolutely nothing wrong with seeing how your younger players can do, but you also can't forget about your experienced players, they are the heart and soul of the team. I am a little nervous this year as to how things are going to go for the Girls Varsity at Scott. It is good to build for the future, but don't forget about today as well.

  13. I did see Scott High play Nicholas County. IMO, it was pretty evenly matched. However, it is unfortunate, for some of the Scott girls that some of the more experienced girls on the team received quite a bit less playing time. I am all for promoting and giving the younger girls an opportunity to show what they can do. I think it is going to be an interesting and possibly long season for some of the sophmores and juniors on the varsity team.
