  1. Rumor has it that Hines is currently being home schooled and plans to re-enroll in the fall. I expect to see him back on the field in a Fern Creek uniform next year.

Just to set the record. Hynes was on homebound medical instruction, he is on the team. I have heard "rumors" too ridiculous to repeat about this kid. Unfortunately I think there are some parents at Fern Creek who like to spread rumors and miscontent because their kid(s) can't cut it there.

Fern Creek is a tough school they figured out about 10yrs back to regain the respect of the community they had to institute an extremely zealous discipline policy.

  2. He's a snapper now???LOL, I know what you meant.

Word I got from someone in the school was that Hynes was on homebound medical instruction. I heard through the grapvine it was because he had a severe case of mono but don't know for certain.

I talked to another player's Father this morning and was told he did play in 7 on 7 at South Oldham last night.

I would suspect for obvious reasons Higgins will have his kids at Male this weekend. I guess we will get to see him there.

  3. The only reason i said does it really matter is because either way Male must face either St.X or Manual and they both beat the snot out of them. Hopefully if male wins they will come together and put a few good games together.

Well they would have to get past the winner of Nelson Co vs Meade Co first! Talk about a gimme 3rd round game for ANY school left from Jefferson County!

  4. Sure it matters... to players, coaches and parents of bith teams. In my opinion Male wins this one 30 - 18.

Your margin could prove correct but the numbers will be higher....48-36 or so I would suspect and that could go in either direction....FC's put up more than 30pts in all but 3 games this season, the KEY IS THEIR D, can they step it up and pull out a win? If their last two games are any evidence the answer is yes, its definately not out of reach for them to win this ball game.

  5. Oh I don't know about that I think Fern Creek scores plenty of points, the question is can they keep Male from scoring?

Dexter Heyman got through a bunch in the last meeting and even though Fern Creek's QB was sacked sevral times he still had no trouble amassing near 400 yards in the air. Male does NOT have great pass coverage, that is something that started with their younger kids a couple years ago and now that they are at the varsity level they have not gotten any better.

Only two teams have put up more points on Male than Fern Creek did they are Manual and St X, both games Male lost. Fern Creek's defense makes a couple big stops and this one goes to the wire.

  6. Fern Creek did not abandon is junkyard defense however, on big stops I saw a bunch in the box and that is not something I have seen previously, they were more unified on D than I have seen them since the preseason.

Two scores came against FC's JV late in the game, it could have easily been 54(or more)-7 had Higgins not let up...FC's 2nd String offense and QB had no troubling getting a score late in the game...

Fern Creek is more than capable of giving Male a game...if everyone shows up Friday night with their A Game things could get interesting..

  7. on the issue of FC's speed, for any of you that saw them at the pre-season scrimmage, the kid we couldn't catch, Bracken is about the 5th or 6th fastest kid on their team.

I first took notice at the Sparq Combine then after the scrimmage at X I was intriqued so I asked around....Two of their kids were on the 4x100 relay team that finished 2nd at the state championship meet (1st Place Team was Male and included Doug Beaumont and Justin Green). They also have the #1 and #5 kid in JeffCo in the 200m dash on their team, however surprisingly none of them are running backs!

  8. I will only say this. Coach White (30 + years) the Defensive Coord. has prepared very well the last several weeks for Ryle's running game from what I understand. Several new wrinkles not seen this year to date to be introduced at this game. I stick with the Creek, these kids are hungry, big, and fast. I watched a practice on Tuesday night and could not believe the intensity and effort. Then two of the kids stayed after for another 1.5 hours with a personal trainer running, technique, etc. Schedule to date has not been outstanding, but not as bad as some make out. Meade County is now on a roll having won 3 straight and is a pretty good football team, as is Moore now also winnig 3 straight. Southern is a much better team than their record shows and look who they have lost to. FC played two good teams preseason in St.X and Valley, having more than held their own with both. This should be a close game but who knows, that is why they keep score and play the game. Ryle is an excellent team and will also be prepared as well.

Based on the film I have seen and what I have heard from Bob and others we "aint seen nothing yet"

  9. Schmitz doesn't have world class speed or anything, but he most definitely isn't slow. And he's a brutal runner. I'll take his combination of speed and strength over most runners. Most of your "fast" runners are not all that hard to bring down (once you catch up with them, of course ).

I'll take Ryle in this one, though I will admit I know nothing about Fern Creek other than what I read on this website. I will say this, though - they seem to have played a pretty week schedule to date and I think that might have an effect on the outcome. Someone wrote the their starters are usually out by the second half and I don't think that is going to be an option for them this game. So we'll see how they handle a full game's worth of play against a very solid ballclub. Should be fun.

Notice I said comparitively, compared to FC's speed he is very SLOW...

  10. I think what is going to hurt Ryle in this game is the fact they are, well I will just blurt it out, big and slow comparitively. Schmitz looks slow on film to me and I don't think the passing game is an option for Ryle...The one thing FC has to do with Schmitz is wrap up, what he might lack in speed he makes up for in strength...

  11. This will be a good match up, however if FC is firing on all cylinders, they come a way with a win by a descent margin.

They have a great QB in the 6'4" sophmore Hynes, phenominal speed in the DB's with Duckworth, Carter and Cham, 2 OUTSTANDING RB's in Welch and Deon "The "Short" Bus" Chaney(his nickname says it all), they have a beast of an OL in 6'6' 300lb Ryan "Rhino" Benzick .

Their biggest fault I have seen thus far is they start out slow every game. But if you cover they run they go to the air if you cover the pass they run it up your gut and the defense is on you before you know they are there. There D-line has made HUGE stops all season long. I would say the best team they have played to this point is Meade County who they made no attempt at a running game against, not because they couldn't run on them, but because they didn't have to. I give Curtis Higgins props for being probably the 2nd smartest public school coach in Jefferson County. He has plenty of tricks left up his sleeve.....

I was throughly impressed at the pre-season scrimmage in the new stadium, they are a VERY VERY good and very well coached football team!

  12. Airforce1 one must have been at the wrong game! FC's first score was a TD pass up the middle. I don't think 253 passing yards and 2 TD's (as per the Courier Journal NOT me) is doing "nothing". The offense that did "nothing" at least in the AIR was Meade and Cannady. Just goes to show you how slanted some people see their own teams play!

  13. Why am I not surprised Sexton has a problem with it?

Fern Creek games will be broadcast on 92.7 FM WFHS, that is the schools Communications Magnet Program station, the signal only goes maybe 7 miles I say 7 because I lose it in Mt Washington, but during bball season I picked it up at Southern, Waggener and at Trinity.....

  14. Fern Creek had an impressive freshman QB last year. I think his name is Hynes. He showed great poise and toughness against Trinity in last year's game. I'm thinking he might possibly be a very good player in the not too distant future. Meade had better be prepared for an aerial assault.

Agree about Hynes against Trinity last year, the thing that impressed me was his nerve, I mean the kid never flinched even after he got blasted a couple times he stood in there and threw, he had to have 40+ attempts in that game. That is a WHOLE Lot of passes to get off, especially against Trinity.
