  1. If they are having to forfeit games due to the lack of competiveness it sounds like to me they need to drop the program, IMO.

I disagree. As long as there is 11 on the team, you should play the game. Whipping or not, there is a lot to be learned from playing the sport. The last thing that you want kids to learn is not to play if you are outmatched. That won't carry them very far in life.

  2. It's no surprise how well Cov. HC is doing this year. They have alot of weapons on O. I really don't think the Beechies are going to expect what is coming next week.

My disappointment is Covington Holmes. They have some HUGE talent on that team. But I really don't think they have the proper coaching. Rumor has it that old Beechies coach my be going to Holmes.

I disagree. I think that a lot of the "talent" that Holmes should have up front is on the first team that you mentioned in your response. Holmes' line leaves some things to be desired. Speed doesn't matter when it can't get past the line of scrimmage.

  3. yea I know Henry Clay gives up some points, but they score alot also. There also 9-0 against some pretty stiff competition. There the only undefeated team in the top 10, how are they not higher than #6?

There is no possible way that Highlands and Covington Catholic are better football teams. I guess they get bonus points for being smaller schools and having more recent championships.

Henry Clay has had a history of failure with some very talented football teams. I have seen Henry Clay play this season. I have also seen Highlands. I have seen Cov on T.V. Henry Clay would not match up with Highlands or Cov up front. Therefore, they are not as good of a football team. They would lose in open competition. JMO

  4. Very good observation...the 1999 Henry Clay team was stacked until injuries hit.

Shane Boyd(Kentucky) missed a few games and played hurt in the playoffs.

Zia Combs(Michigan) tore his knee up in the last regular season game and missed the playoffs.

There were other players that also played hurt, but it is football and sometimes you have to play hurt. Losing Zia would hurt any team tremendously.

I think Shane Boyd got his collar bone broke in the fourth quarter in the last game of the year against Campbell that year. He was still in the game when Clay was up 49-0. IMO, a poor choice by Simpson.

  5. This reminds me: I think my son is playing out of position and the coach exercised some bad play calling last week...I need to get on the phone with our superintendent!

Honestly I cannot believe this has transpired. If this is about the kids then I think they are learning a poor life lesson. I agree with a previous post that if the coach had done something immoral or illegal then by all means relieve him of his duties today. If it is about who's playing or not playing and wins/losses, then bite your lip and do your best to support them (which I would bet 90+% of the Boyle Co. fans are doing). If the people in charge (which does not include the parents) are not happy with the results this season, then fire the coach at season's end.

And if they do fire the coach at the season's end after that short of a time period, good luck getting another good coach in the position. I don't care how many championships you have won.

  6. Now that you mention it:

    1A

    2003 Danville

    2004 Beechwood

    3A

    2004 Highlands (Jet SWEEP!)

    4A

    2004 St. X

2004 was definately the year of the running game.... and proof in point that a passing game is overrated if you are truly dominant at what you do.

St X ran well that year, but they also used five wides. They were at best 60-40 against good football teams. BTW, Highlands won state that year because they couldn't be scored on, not because of the points they were putting up. You are going to have to go back a long way to find a AAA or AAAA team that has had a high power offense on a state champ team that didn't utilize a passing game.

  7. I'll never understand this. What's great about causing problems in the middle of the season? Again, committed a crime, unethical or immoral behavior I'm all for it but for sitting some Seniors...no way! That's why there's an offseason.

I would have to agree. Starting trouble like this in the middle of the year is anything but positive for the team's sucess the rest of the season.:thumb:

  8. Remember the good ole days when your parents helped you overcome that adversity instead of running to the Superintendent and Principal to complain?

Yes I do. I remember the days when parents had higher expectations of performance in their own children, rather than wondering why Johnny is sad when he comes home because a coach pushed him out of his comfort zone. I know these kids at Boyle are used to being pushed. I just don't think the community was ready for the motivation factor that occured last week. Their is no better motivation than replacement.:scared:

  9. I have heard that the coaches took out the varsity the other night due to an acceptance of sub standard play that is begining to emmit in their upper classmen. Transitions are never easy for upper classmen. This seems to be a motivation tactic on the part of the coach, which seems to have worked if the underclassmen scored. I think the bottom line is that the coach was sending a message, raise your level of play, or you CAN be replaced. Football is about challenges and adversity. The challenge has been presented.
