  1. Wow!, this blows me away. Did'nt see Estill hanging with Lee in this one. Looks like it turned out to be a good game. Estill on the other hand sounds one-dimensional (shut down Berryman or Christopher) and they might have problems. Can't wait to see how these two teams matchup with Owsley and Powell.

  2. Stronger guard play will be a defining factor in a matchup with powell this season. Powell has always seemed to have stronger post play than guard play, may be interesting. Powell on the other hand has a deep bench of guards, and a deep bench of forwards and centers. This will be a matchup to watch for sure. I do believe if the Pirates can find themselves comfortable in Coach Lively's style of play that they can beat a very good Bobcat team.

  3. Many regions have a Rotation. Can't the 10th consider this, if you look to past years, not saying that Mason didn't have the best team each time, but they have won many regional titles in the fieldhouse, i don't believe the homecourt advantage is hurting them any at all. Use the rotation, or try considering more than 2 in the rotation. For the Region to be held at the same place each year is rediculous, a neutral or away cite makes a huge difference, trust me.

  4. I don't think I said Estill would beat anyboy "handily". I hope Lee beats everybody. All I am saying is, underestimate Estill County at your own peril. Powell may be returning 11 players, but I need some convincing after watching them at the end of last season.

I agree that Lee is a very solid and experienced team. I think they may be hurting in the size category. Once again i will say that Lee will have a job of containing Romans downlow. Powell, as a whole, is much stronger around the basket. Although Lee is a fast past team, it will be interesting to see how Lively takes his coachin methods and uses them with the boys at Powell. Watching a Jackson City team that had 2 or 3 decent players go to the finals of the region makes me wonder how 11 will work out. I think Powell and Lee both have a good shot at the regional title and the atmosphere in district play will be competitive. Must say, im a fan of the 56th, i'd love to see either team go to Rupp.:dancingpa

  5. Before you make a statement, you need to look into a few things. Lee has 7 returning seniors, 5 of which would start anywhere in the region. Powell returns 11 seniors, most of which would start anywhere in the region. Powell on the other hand should have alot of leadership as that of Lee. To say the least, Berryman and Christopher are good players, but i can't see 2 players beating Powell or Lee handidly. If beating them is an understatement then Estill sounds like they should win the region. Lee #4, Powell #5 (pre-season) pole. I know you can't say much about a pre-season pole, but you can speak about reality, 2 players won't take you anywhere, but a TEAM will take you for a ride.

  6. Yes..both Osteen and Olinger graduated, Hazard still has 2 solid players in Justin Hicks and Michael Campbell. I also agree that JBS , PCC, Powell and Lee will be in the mix, i don't see Leslie making a mark. Basketball is a funny game, teams have bad games, and sometimes they are unstoppable, the region is really wide-open between those 5 teams.

  7. Off night for Gilbert...major ON night for Cox. Basketball is just like any other sport. Some nights you have good games, some nights you can't hit the rim. Wolfe did'nt really match up with JBS last season despite a loss by 26 points. Compare JBS to a team such as Hazard or PCC, if JBS can beat one of those two, or even Powell or Lee in this case by 26, without Stepp...they deserve to win Region. IMO they would'nt do bad in the state tournament.

  8. I agree 100% Bird Man, last season in the 14th Jackson City was ranked pre-season #16 and ended up #2, losing to Hazard in the finals of Region, by 7 points (57-50). Pre-season rankings mean nothing, but who people "THINK" are the best, 2nd best, and so on. As far as individual rankings, the entire team must win each game, not just 1 single person. This may help with scholarships and publicity, but if you are ranked pre-season #1 and your team does'nt win the regional tournament, then you probably should'nt have been number 1. The best player is someone who can lead there team to Rupp in March. You will see this in some regions, but very few.
