I personally don't agree. I think that all the schools should compete against each other...in both basketball and football. Your agruement is that the small schools don't stand a chance against the big schools. I've been out of high school for a little over 10 years, and yes, I went to a 4A high school. But trust me, in our region, the best football team year-in and year-out was not our high school or another 4A high school. It wasn't a a 3A high school or even a 2A high school. Yes, the best football program belonged to a 1A school *gasp* Imagine that! I don't think they were quite as good this year, but in years past, this team was able to kick everyone in our regions butts whether it be a 4A, 3A, 2A, 1A school. It was a cause for HUGE celebration in our 4A school actually defeated this tiny 1A school. I think our school has only beat them two times ever, and we do have a decent football team. That is just how good this little 1A football program was. So don't tell me that the little schools can't compete with the big schools...They can. And the other small schools in the region can definitely hold their own in football...and basketball. Our region has sent its share of 1A and 2A teams to the Sweet Sixteen. Why should the small schools be denied the right to play against the big schools? That's like telling the small schools that 'Hey, your a small school so you can't possibly hope to have a team as good as one at a bigger school.' I personally think it's a bit insulting to the smaller schools. Tell that to teams like the Hickory Huskers(from the movie Hoosiers) and past KY champ Cuba. These schools were tiny. Less than 100 students and they still won state. If you so adamant about there being a 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A champ then do individual championships and then have the four winners compete against each other. I think it's insulting to small schools to just assume they can't hold their own against the big schools in sports just because they are small. And I'd also be curiuos to see how many 1A and 2A schools have advanced on in the state tournament. How many made it to the quaterfinals, semifinals, and championship game regardless of whether they actually won the whole thing or not? Everyone seems to be only looking at who won the whole thing, but if a small school made it to the semifinals that means they are one of the best teams in the state even if they didn't win the entire championship. And it would also be interesting to see how the class sizes of winning schools would change if private school' champs were not considered. With the exception of UAB, all the private schools that won have been large...was their winning due to their size or because they could recruit people to their school? So if you take out any private schools, how do the numbers work out then? Just curious.
