  1. He interviewed Wednesday night at 8:00 right after Coach Perry. He told me if he was lucky enough to get the job he would be at Danville at least until his son gradulated and longer if everything was going well. His son is in middle school.

I'm not saying Yeast should be the coach. Someone asked why Yeast and I answered. I think Yeast is a good coach but I'd like to see Clevenger get it in all honesty.

I heard Yeast decided not to interview also. Haven't confirmed that yet.

  2. All the applications are in. Interviewing is underway. Coach to be announced around February 10. Expectations are that it will be Perry or Clevenger with Clevenger believed to be the front runner at this point.

Perry, Craig Yeast, Clevenger, and I believe Ray Graham all have interviews this week. Not sure if anyone else does.

  3. Seems odd that the Henderson people would be upset with that. Obviously you don't want your head coach to leave if things are going well, but you have to be reasonable when the school in question is your coach's alma mater.

I agree also. Just repeating what I was told. Some people don't like change. I'm sure there is alot of parents, players, and alumni that have alot invested in Clevenger and the program, those are probably the ones that are a little upset.

  4. Clevenger has applied and wants the job. Talked to a coach from Henderson Co. and people down that way are not happy that he applied.

    :D

I heard Clevenger is applying but he hasn't yet.

If he applies, I'll be shocked if he doesn't get it.

The Coach Perry arguments are sooooooooo awesome in person.

That's all I am gonna give you right now.

  5. I also hope the committee will go out and inquire about some coaches and not just wait to see who applies. A lot of times you have some good coaches happy at the place they are and are not going to apply for a job, but if someone approaches them about it they may become interested and then may apply.

  6. I wonder who will be on the hiring committee? I hope they put some people with football background and are familiar with Danville football and athletics on it and not just put people from the community and administrators on it. I know it will officially be up to the site-base counsel and the Principle to make the decision but I hope they get some input from some people that have vested interest in the program.

  7. I don't see a problem with a kid playing 2 or 3 different sports if he chooses too

Me neither. I love to see kids excel in more than one sport, but there is alot of kids who don't play multiple sports and its a coaches job to give those kids as much of a chance to become the best they can be.

Just like a football player has to hit the weights in the off season to be good, a baseball player has to be in the batting cage and work in the off season to be good, or a basketball player has to get in the gym and get up shots in the off season to be good. Doesn't matter what sport it is now a days you have to put the work in the off season to be successful in season.

  8. Good grief. How many D1 baseball players has Danville produced? It's high school sports, PLAY EVERYTHING! 99% of all players are done playing when the final out is made in high school. And for the record...NOBODY gets a full baseball scholarship. There are 11 or so baseball scholarships divided up amongst the 30+ players on a division 1 baseball team. 85 FULL scholarships available at division 1 football level. If yo uare going to "work year round"...your best opportunity would be to invest the time in football. Just one persons observed opinion.

Danville has had 5 D1 players in the last 5 years. Two Louisville Slugger All Americans last year.

  9. Didnt say the baseball coach tells them not to play football. I said Baseball coach tells players if they expect to play come spring they need to focus yr. around, travel squads etc.

Just like any sport if you want to be good at it you better work at it year around. I doubt if he talks to them about playing time that way, but if your not working on your game and someone else at that same position is I wonder who is going to be the better player?

  10. Jerry Perry will be the next coach. I think alot of this suff on here is hearsay. ads just got to get a few of these kids out that they are losing to soccer and baseball. doesnt help that baseball coach tells kids they will not be able to play much if they do not focus just on baseball yr. around.

First of all the baseball coach does not tell them not to play football, but there is reasons why the good white athlete are no longer playing football at Danville. Kids these days are becoming more specialized in all sports and not just at Danville. The small schools are affected by this more than the bigger schools. The next coaches biggest challenge will be getting those players at a young age back playing again and keep them playing. Until that is done their numbers will continue to be down and they will have a hard time getting back to the level they once were.

Over the last 5 years the baseball team has lost more players to football then the other way. I can name at least 5 current football players that played baseball through 8th or 9th grade that no longer play baseball and only play football.

I love Coach Perry but my concern with Danville having him take over as head coach is he also is very close to retirement. He has been teaching since at least 1988. His son is also a Sophomore this year, so would he stay after he graduates? Big questions I think would have to be answered before they give him the job or they will be doing this again in a couple years.

  11. I like Coach Perry alot, but IMO I think it's time for new blood.Someone that will get more Kids to come out...Over the last few years to many good football players gave up football just to play baseball, hopefully with a new coach this may change.:thumb:

Coach Perry was named the Coach in waiting a few years back. Don't know if that still stands or not.

There is just as many kids who have gave up baseball just to play football over the last few years. This not just happening at Danville, happening all over. The kids who play multiple sports are alot less than it was several years ago and if they do they give up alot. Pretty much all sport have become year around now. I'm not sure if thats a good thing or not, but it sure hurts the sports at the smaller schools.

Also heard Griag Yeast and Clay Clevengers names brought up tonight. Both have alot of ties to the area.
