  1. I'm going to try a different approach. I think there are four groups.

    1. THOSE WITH A LEGITIMATE SHOT TO WIN THE REGION: Elliott County, Rose Hill, East Carter;

    2. OUTSIDE SHOT TO WIN: Bath County, Fairview;

    3. COULD PULL AN UPSET OR TWO, BUT NOT THE WHOLE THING: Ashland, Raceland, West Carter, Boyd County, Rowan County

    4. NO SHOT: Russell, Greenup, Morgan, Menifee, Fleming, Lewis

    The teams in each group are in no particular order.

  2. I was feeling kinda blue this morning, then I logged on to BGP and went to this thread and read it from the beginning. I tell you, if you want a good chuckle, just start from scratch. These "rankings" wouldn't, as my momma would say, amount to a pimple on a hog's hindend. I'm sure that Boyd would rather be ranked in the middle of the pack by some yet still go on that winning streak they're on. I'm sure that Elliott would gladly trade the top spot for a ticket to play in Richmond this weekend. I'd guess that East would happily trade #2 for a favorable draw in the district. And although I'm somewhat new to posting here, I've read for sometime when I could about 16th region basketball on BGP and I've come to the conclusion that all these polls amount to is an opportunity for folks to get a few rabbit punches in on the schools they like least. Good luck to all of the teams and I hope they all are healthy and ready to go when districts come around. As for the pollers, I assume they all will remain ill.

    Only in America, baby!

    No doubt. These rankings generate comment but don't really mean squat. Elliott never was considered #1 last year but went to Rupp. Wonder which one they would rather have!:creepy:

  3. Mr. coach, you sound like a very intelligent soul. I can give him some pointers that would have the Daily Independent out there with their cameras every game. Perhaps a pimped out hairdo might help him explain his eccentric substitution patterns to the Elliott faithful.. Think about it Coach Mays.

    Only in America, baby!

    I know your post is in fun. But in all seriousness, his sub patterns are not eccentric. He has done it the same way, right or wrong for years. He is 18-2 this year and made the trip to Rupp last year. Agree or not, he is consistent and lately you cannot complain about the results. And I do agree about changing the hairsyle to be like yours.:thumb:

  4. Rose Hill wins this one by 10+. They are a different team now. The "other" players have greatly improved with more and more game experience. Euton is too big and jackson has become the stud of the region. If he stays out of foul trouble he is an absolute impossibility for most guards to handle when he posts up or penetrates and he is quick enough to penetrate about whenever he wants to.

  5. I have to agree that the record of this team is amazing and they are the most fun team to watch I have ever seen. If they had the big post player it would probably slow the game down and it would not be as entertaining and the record would certainly not be better than 17-2. I'll take that every year to start a season.

  6. Elliott hardly ever wins the battle on the glass. They have however won the biggest portion of their games. They shoot a lot of threes every game and for the most part shoot them well every game. They are a very small team and it should be no surprise that they have to do a lot of outside shooting. I mean "hello World" it's not like they have a major post presence. They have to live and die by the three and have twice this year. But they have lived by the three seventeen times. The three and running also makes them very fun to watch as they have garnered fans from everywhere whom are driving two hrs on nights their own team is playing just to watch these boys who are making a quick flash through high school basketball and evidently raising a lot of positives and negatives. Rose Hill won everybody in the state knows that.

    24 of the 31 three's Elliott shot there was no hand or body any closer than three feet.

    They didn't fall even though they were good look's.

    The other seven were very heavily contested, three of those fell anyway.

    Rose Hill does have a complete team now and does play nice defense though it's not the best Elliott has faced this season. Probably 4th IMO.

    Rose Hill or any other team also argue's the why's and why not's when they are on the losing end.

    It is a normal human response to state "one's own opinion" on why their team won or lost especially on a site that was designed for that purpose.

    I wouldn't pay my 15.00 if when someone said, man our defense just choked them slap down and they couldn't do nothing against it....I had to just sit there and wasn't supposed to respond.

    By the way BogeyMan I don't feel you have the right to tell me to drop it(post # 48 page 1) until you pay my due's.

    My apologies. I think you will probably agree we will never win this argument and rankings really are not important won't you. After all, wouldn't you rather be the State champ than be ranked #1 and not win your region?

  7. As an Elliott fan I personally don't care where they are ranked. It is nice to get some statewide recognition, but all that should matter is the trip to Rupp and the trip to Richmond. The latter goal is now gone and the team should and will refocus on March. We all know how much rankings mean when it comes to tournament time. I really do not think that they will have too many games where they go 16-70 from the field. It is amazing to me and a credit to the team that they got as close as they did to Rose Hill with that type of shooting performance. We can only hope that the whole team will now realize that for a running, smallish team to continue to excel they must all play with the heart and determination that got them to Rupp last year. The leaders on that team know that talent will only get you so far and it will take some old fashioned guts and intensity to keep them on top.

  8. Congratulations to Rose Hill for a good win. Chad Jackson handled the pressure well and is a big time player. Euton dominated the boards and the rest of the cast has improved greatly. Nobody wins shooting 17-60. Elliott made no adjustments offensively to counter the poor outside shooting. The Faulkners and Ferguson are able to score inside. I am surprised very little effort was made to post up one of the twins on a weaker guard. Morgan showed a little intensity when he came in to play the post but, just doesn't have the athletic abitlity. Other than that Elliott had no interior defense or scoring. I have a feeling these two teams will meet again and Elliott probably will shoot a little better than 28%. Good Luck to Rose Hill. They should make it to Richmond and represent the 16th well.

  9. You know, just because a couple of proud mamas or cheerleaders get over enthusiastic is no reason to be that sarcastic Jed and Godfather. This is a game that will be very close and I think the Elliott players and coaches are well aware of the talent Rose Hill possesses. If Euton shoots like he did against Lee County it could be interesting. Jackson will handle the pressure of Elliott's guards, but I wonder about the three other starters. Look for Euton to help break the press. Raceland had some success using Sparks in that manner. As for D1 talent, I think it is great that small schools like Rose Hill and Elliott have that type of talent this year. It is entirely possible that 2 from Rose Hill and 4 from Elliott may eventually earn the right to be D1 scholarship players and that is wonderful for this area. Rose Hill' schedule has made them a top 3 team in the region and Elliott County is well aware of that. I'm looking forward to seeing a great game,
