This has to be one of the lowest points in HHS program.

I can't believe this score. What has happened to the basketball program at Highlands? I asked earlier in another thread. I remember the days of Bob Muntis, Mike Vories, Dan Sullivan, Mark Stickling, Gerry Becker, McManus, the Malones, all players under Coach Shields and regional contenders. From an 8th Region person's perspective, I am shocked by this result today. Any explanations to how it reached this point?
This has been the case for quite some time. How many of those guys you mentioned played football? None.

What comes around goes around. There were times when Highlands didn't look at Cov Cath as too much of a threat to them. It all goes in circles.
When was that? Lol

It's not a hit being ordered geeez. I'm just saying there is no love lost and if they took CJ FREDRICK out on a hard foul only down 10 it could get ugly.
That's a shame.

Somebody is going to get hurt if CCH doesn't stop embarrassing the Birds. I know Ruthsatz likes to pour it on but he is going to lose someone if he's not careful.
That's terrible

What's Highlands record this year?

We keep hearing about the talent at JV and Frosh level. If any of those kids are non football, I'm taking a hard look at them now. If the varsity guys aren't enthused, may be picking splinters will motivate them.
-
All are football players save for LaFrange.....However, a lot of talent coming from JV, Frosh and 8th graders....Better dual players with hoop talent than this group with some hoop only players. This Team can't shoot. Regardless of posters like Joat saying it's about bad shot selection....just about every player shoots under 50% from FT line....this crew cannot shoot.
Keep in mind HHS has had very strong middle school classes that have not translated to varsity success. If even half of those kids are in the football program, it will be tough for them to excel in bball. If there is a higher percentage of non footballers, then they have a chance. Coach needs to really reach out to non footballers.

Highlands is missing the two most important components of an elite basketball program - at any level: Multiple zip codes on the roster AND (obvious here) talented scorers in the gym NOT playing football from August to December 7th. Look at any great roster - they come from multiple communities. That is what Highlands had during the eighties - when a great covington native (coach shields) was coaching them and his childhood buddies started sending their kids to HHS to be with Coach Shields. Fred Terry, Draud, Lankheit, Maile, Draud, Blasengame, Hergott - Beagle from Boone Co. and on and on and on. Southgate, Newport & Bellevue athletes were contributing as well - Kremer, Fisher, Schuett etc. NET - more than 1 zip code. NCC - they draw best athletes from Alexandria, Cold Spring, Southgate, Newport and 40175. Cov Cath- multiple communities - Moeller/St. X - you get the drill. THEN - YES, you have to have talented kids IN THE GYM FULL TIME from August to December. In the eighties - again, Terry, vories, sullivan, SCHLARMANN, Koehling, Draud, Fisher, Barth, Buten, Cowie - athletes that were also winning state tennis championships and regional golf championships. NET - talent in the gym all fall that could put the ball in the basket. Again, what is missing? Multiple zip codes and (non-football) talent working on their game exclusively - all fall. It's not rocket science - just is what it is. You can have great football players playing hoops - i love it - but you have to sprinkle in some basketball talent that is not running thru grind of football AND yes, in the gym. I worry about writing and trying to communicate feelings and ideas like this - because it is often misinterpreted. I'm not calling out any kids - as not talented - those highlands kids are very talented, they are just competing on a small stage and activity - like golf or tennis - takes (at times) - a talent to score consistently and with today's great athletic defenses - takes real hard work and skill to get it done..
Spot on.

Does anyone know if NKYsports.com was out doing this game last night. I tried pulling up the replay on their site and it wont work. It apparently was their game of the week.
Saw highlights on blitz 5 this morning.

Highlands has got to be a tough basketball job. I can't imagine summer ball exists because of the amazing football program. So really, how many kids are in the gym before thanksgiving?
Hasn't always been that way. Unfortunately those days are becoming ancient history

Exactly why I don't go. Just can't watch it

One of the few times that I felt we had a game in hand the whole way. One awful defensive series and one bonehead throw by AD. The rest was just a ho hum win by a team much better than their opponent.
Really, the Bengals just need to take care of their business. The usher told us there are rumors running around their group that the Steelers game in two weeks will be flexed to 4:25.
Just as long as they don't move it to 8:30...
