  1. Tyler was kicking fifty yard field goals during pre-game that looked like they would have been good from 65. As the weather gets cooler it is going to get harder to break the record but he is only a sophomore and has plenty of time and plenty of leg. He just started kicking a football this year. JC was not driving they had broke off a big run and was going to have no trouble scoring a touchdown so rather than run the score up pointlessly Matney allowed his kicker to try for the record.

  2. I would say any who has had a chance at breaking the record has had games where the coach has left them in to get yards....Passing or Rushing....
Just like Mueller left Lorenzen in against Simon Kenton up 55-0, just so he could become the first 2000yrd passer in NKY.

Mueller is an absolute joke and has made a complete mochary of the game and should be banned from ever taking a breath on a football field again.

That last part was obviously a joke. I have the utmost respect for Mueller he has always shown JC respect after they have beaten us.

  3. How many times have you heard a player say of a personal award or record that they would trade it for a team championship? I have no doubt the same would be said by JJ Jude & his coach. I don't begrudge a coach for trying to get his player a personal record as long as the TEAM is onboard with the decision. I have never seen Jude carry the ball, but I have heard how hard the kid works. I can't help but think that his teammates see this as a TEAM accomplishment and one that they will remember for a long time. When Peyton Manning and then Tom Brady broke the NFL record for TD passes in a season both threw TD passes when the team had 1st & Goal from inside the 5 and could have run for the TD. I think the team wanted to get them the record. I don't see why anyone is bent out of shape on this one? Seems like they have been drinking some Haterade....
Good post but you wont get much support. I have stated that I have two sons who play for JC and as long as it doesn't comprimise a win then i would be mad at Matney if he didn't give not only JJ but the entire team a chance for these memories. All you have to do is look at the number of members on this site to see what their highschool playing days will mean to them for the rest of their lives. (The Boys Of Fall)
  4. A one trick pony will not beat HHS... Mark it down!!
I don't think I've seen any body pick against HHS all year except their scrimmage against Trinity. Last years one trick pony played them just as good as anybody else. Running the football is the only chance anyone has against HHS. If you try to go toe to toe thru the air that's when your beat...Mark it down!!
  5. No way JC hangs 300 rushing yards on the Birds. Jude will rush for 78 yards.
It is possible. Johnson Central is not intimidated by the mighty Birds. If HHS goes into this game looking for a rematch with Cov Cath this game will be closer than alot of people expect. This Highland team will have to be much much better than their last three teams to clock JC as some have stated. This JC team would put up 250 to 300 on any of the last three highland teams. Just an oppinion. JC came into the season not thought of as a threat in 4a and are still not but I will say everyone who has kept up with highschool football knew HHS would be nearly unstoppable in 4a.
  6. As far as more passes than rushes, I said, "Pass attempts should be much higher than rushes" in my previous post. Look at the NFL if a player has a lot of carries they have 30, if they have a lot of passes they throw 50. I will compare a couple of pro football players, Tom Brady had 492 attempts last year. Where as Adrian Peterson's highest attempts ever for a season was 363. I understand high school is different, but that was the concept i was going with. If a QB drops back for a pass they either pass, run, or take a sack. A running back runs the ball. I would like to see how many carries Jude has compared to Towles throws. You could also look at running vs. passing very simply, 100 yards is considered a good game running, passing is usually 250 or 300. And as far as the "running up the score," I would like to compare the amount of time each player was in the game.
HHS runs more of a pro style offense where JC runs a more Nebraska or army offense. There is alot of hot air being blown on this site but you would be amazed on how little the number of carries were for JJ with a running clock. I'm not saying Matney did not dictate the scores of several games by playing the second team and third team defences. If you are really interested look at the amount of tackles on the KHSAA web site and you can see wich game the starting defense played very little. If memory serves me correct I think there has been 15 touchdowns scored on the first team D in 11 games.
  7. Pass attempts should be much higher than rushes. Also, compare how many throws Towles and Wright have to other top passers in KY. Finally count the minutes played for each of them.

If you scroll down on this link you can look at the top 15 passing leaders, and look at the # of attempts. http://www.khsaa.org/football/2011/stats.htm[ These are the top 5 in passing yards in the state. I only listed the # of attempts. Guess which one is is Patrick Towles.

    1 367

    2 259

    3 186

    4 370

    5 272

I don't have to guess its 186 and why should pass attempts be less than rushes? It's an offensive play, and don't leave out his rushes. As I stated I don't care how many attempts PT has. I wish him the best in every game except this friday night. He has to have x amount of passes to make sure the offense clicks this time of year I get that. What HHS and Trinity fans need to understand is the rest of the state may think all the crying over the rushing record sounds hypocritical coming from teams who beat the crap out of everybody else then look down their noses. You chose to beat Holmes 77-0 we chose not to and allow a hard working young man a piece of history. We may not be able to hang with HHS but time will tell. Have no doubt we could have beaten Holmes much much worse also.
  8. He doesn't have inflated stats......35 carries last night? Seriously?
Patrick Towels has 229 attempts on the season between passing and rushing reported. JJ has 231 passing rushing and recieving show me the big difference. These are the numbers reported to KHSAA thru 10 games. For the record I could care less how many attempts PT has. I wish him the best and hope to be rooting for him next year as my quarter back at UK. Travis wright the beloved QB for Trinity has 227 attempts. Highlands and Trinity have been in way more blowouts than JC. Get off your high horse.
  9. It was sad to hear Coach Matney put so much of the blame on kicker, Trent Davis, who missed much of the game to participate in a soccer match.
This post is an absolute joke. You sir are a pot stirrer. Matney loves this kid and is doing everything he can to get him a scholorship. He is trying to give the kid praise and you spin it into something bad. From what I saw at the game if we would have had our kicker it would have been 22-10. Posters like yourself make me sick. I have great respect for your team, but believe me our fan base thinks just as little about you as you do our coach. I hope that makes you feel important.
  10. Just to be clear.....25 touches is plenty....but do you really feel Matney keeps Jude and the other starters in, deep, because that's what's going to let them make a run?
There is no doubt in my mind, he has to . I also think there is some stat padding but there have been plenty of games where the starters play one half or one series into the third. We are one of the few schools in eastern Kentucky who has both a jv and freshman team. The starters have to get reps.
  11. According to the Highlands Football website, Jude had 95 yards on 28 carries against Highlands in the playoffs last year. He is still a great player, I just wanted the facts to be correct.
I want the facts to be correct also. I could be wrong, memory is not what it used to be. I'm sure he had well over 1100 against those five quality opponents. He has done it his whole carreer and so far this year he has averaged about 25 carries a game. I have two sons who play on this team, one who plays in the backfield with JJ , both start on defence, and I would be upset if Matney didn't do everything in his power not to let JJ earn the record as long as it didn't compromise wins. I feel there is alot of hypocritsism on here with all the 70-0 victories posted on here. Each team is unique, Highland plays their players as long as their coach feels he needs to keep his players in shape to win another state championship. JC plays their players as deep into the games as Matney feels necessary to get them as deep in the playoffs as possible. JC may have a much bigger enrollment than HHS, but not nearly the depth. If it was not for JJ's temendous work ethic (lifting six days a week and running on saturdays and Sundays even after big games), 25 carries a night would not even be close to being prepared for Ashland, Belfry,Cov Cath, and Highland.
  12. You get over it man. You're one of my favorite posters on here but why try to run a good kid into the ground on here for something he has no control of? He goes all out the way he should. He's had nice games vs nice opponents over the last few years. I've watched him. He's legit. I understand what you are saying about leaving him in but I just think it's bush smearing a kids thread. I also would venture to say Derek Homer had a lot of carries to get his yardage too vs a lot of smaller schools.

I'd like to know what he rushed for vs Cov Cath, Highlands or some of the other big schools. I'd ventrue to say he's been in triple digits in about all those games with everybody in the house knowing he's getting the ball.

Last year he rushed for over 400 against Cov Cath, almost sure he had 250+ against Ashland and Belfry, and somewhere around 200 against Boyle and Highland. Any of those teams will tell you he is for real.
  13. While I have enjoyed my visits to Johnson County and Johnson Central HS, where I have found their fans truly understand what the word Hospitality means, I hope they understand that I am not a fan of their coach and or what he brings to the game of HS football in Kentucky. What he brings certainly isn't sportsmanship, or even class.

It has always puzzled me how such wonderful, caring, and kind people allow a person like Matney to coach their young men!

Please, tell me what I and others are missing about the man, that you all see in him?

I have been reading your kind posts to the JC fan base for years and I would like to say the feeling is mutual for me about Cov Cath and all of northern Kentucky for that matter. What you are missingis Matney's love for his players. He does some questionable things when it comes to dictating final scores of ball games but he is a very good football coach. He will not stand for cheap shots, profanity, back talk,or disrespectfulness. He professes to be God fearing and humble in that aspect to his players, and that is very important to me. You would have to be from this area to truly understand what I'm talking about when I say what he has done just to be able to compete with the teams we are now is remarkable. JC has come from a doormat team that the other teams didn't have to scout and used the game as a stat game to a team you had better prepare for or you will get beat.Matney is a tirelss worker and expects the same from his players and coaches.
  14. Boyle County may be overrated. Hard to tell considering the teams they have lost to. As I said earlier in this thread we will see exactly where Boyle County stands after Friday night.

My fault for handily statement. It was 36-28 correct? My apologies. The fact still stands that Rockcastle shut out the team that defeated JC and at this point should be ranked higher than them based off of that simple fact, IMO.

Based on the fact that Rockcastle shutout a team that beat JC, one would think your OPINION has validity. That is exactly what polls are, opinions and they don't mean a thing come friday night. Makes for some good conversation during slack time though.
  15. Disagree.

Johnson Central gets beaten by Perry Central pretty handily and Rockcastle County shuts out that same Perry Central team. Without a doubt in my mind Rockcastle should be and deserves to be ranked higher than Johnson Central.

Poor Russell County probably deserves to be ranked but will have to beat Rockcastle County this Friday to earn a spot in the poll.

Handily, without taking anything away from Perry Central, where did you get this information? JC was only beaten by one score and had a 20-8 lead at one time in their first real test. I'm not saying JC is not over rated but Boyle very well may be too. Not knowing the make up of all the teams, I would still venture to say that JC starts and plays more freshmen, sophomores, and first year players than any other team on this list. They are getting better and will be a much dreaded team by the end of the season and for years to come.

  16. I was kind of thinking the same thing myself. There wasn't much discussion that I saw about them stomping Heath last week, but I don't see why they wouldn't be counted ahead of Cov Cath at this point. Cov Cath performed similarly in week one, but Johnson Central has beaten Cov Cath the last 3 years straight. I say that that gives them an edge when it comes to ranking.
JC lost alot last year and witch makes them sort of a question mark until they play a few more games. They looked like the JC of the past few years but time will tell. On the other hand Cov Cath is looked upon as a program on the rise with the people they have back. I personally don't have a problem with Cov Cath being ranked above JC till more games are played and things sort themselves out. I think Cov Cath could be the biggest sleeper in he class.
  17. Let's also remember that JC's last request was to be moved to 4A, instead of 5A prior to the re-alignment. Funny how now moving to 5A is all of the sudden a good idea.

Let's also remember that JC had to count their alternative school numbers the last time. Funny how people remember what they want.

  18. Why not work on the pass routes also? JC was an excellent team again this year, but their lack of ability to strike quickly with the passing game doomed them. Harlan was similar. I have a ton of respect for the JC program, but how long do you stick with a philosophy that appears only good enough to get you to number 2?
We constantly here this from teams down state or up north, but why don't you look at it from JC's stand point. Do you realize that JC started five sophomores and two freshman against HHS. There was only a total of MAYBE 20 kids who saw the field in that game. We had two kids on the entire team that ran a sub 4.7 forty and probably antother four that ran a sub 5.0 forty? Why in the world would JC try to get into a track meet with HHS. JC plays with alot of heart and exacuted a perfect game plan to give them the best chance of winning. JC proved they could pas at oportune times but lets get real if they throw it over 15 times a game they are just like the other teams that HHS destroy on a regular basis (overmatched). Make no mistake this was not JC's only chance to beat HHS. The gap is closing and they will not beat us forever. As for now it sems JC has the only game plan that could beat HHS, very simular to what Ryle was able to do this year. Until JC gets about 15 or 20 sub 4.7 guys we will just get stronger, work on our speed, watch alot of film and keep getting better.
  19. 1. Highlands

    2. Johnson Central

    3. Dixie

    4. Covington Cathlic

    5. Christian County

On a side note, there is alot of talk on how Highlands will dominate the next three years. Their incoming freshman class looks very impressive. I do feel however that the next few classes a JC are the stongest classes that we have ever had and this last game between HHS and JC has motivated JC like no other. Huge numbers on the wrestling mat, weight lifting every day, and kids on the field with an inch of snow working on speed and pass coverage drills on their own. Highlands may be the best team in the state in 5a for years to come, but Johnsonville is still a buzz and it looks like they are working harder than ever rather than humping up (witch could have happened after a heart breaking loss). Really looking foward to this game for the next few years. I hope neither team stumbles before the third round of the playoffs.
