  1. Disagree totally and completely. It has nothing to do with self esteem and making "everyone a winner", but has everything to do with giving everyone a fighting chance. I had sworn off this forum but I'm going to take one more shot.

To keep the Guru happy in my little scenario, lets assume there is no such thing as school boundaries or self imposed district limits. A large private school in Louisville has a population base of 693,604 to draw from without ever leaving the county. Now lets take South Laurel (also a 4A school) for example. Give them Laurel, Knox, Rockcastle, Clay, Whitley, Lee, Jackson, Harlan, Pulaski, and Perry for a total of ten neighboring counties, total population according to the 2000 census of 301,733. Heck, just for fun let's throw in Fayette. Now we have a total of 562,245, still more than 130k short.

You know what? I bet I could field a heck of team picking the best from those eleven counties.

My final question to those that oppose multiple classes and state championships is this: What do you care if some team out in the state gets a trophy? Does your ego suffer that much if another team gets to celebrate for being the best of their peers? The largest class is generally recognized as the best team so why should this be so offensive?

I'm beginning to think the only solution is to take sports out of the high schools and put it under the control of the AAU. Then my all-star team can play your all-star team without restrictions.

One more point. This "we work harder than everyone else" is bull also. I can find a few hundred kids out in the hot August sun that will strongly disagree with you.

I see what you are trying to get at ....but ...if you take Louisville with its large population,,,,,,you also have several more schools competing for those kids...it's not like there is one school getting all these kids....

  2. I agree! We saw Beaumont -- saw him go by on the left -- saw him go by on the right...;)

I think they will be adjusted for Mr. Anderson. We just need the offense to click and special teams to play well.

Beaumont is ...to say the least...a handful.....but X has 3 dangerous backs:

1.) Vic...is well known and should be considering that he averaging 10.8 yards a carry and a TD every 4 runs. And you would be surprised to see how much of these stats came after first contact

2.) Duece Finch...is the new guy (soph) with close to Vic speed and moves but with more size and the ability to just truck you. Many believe that he will be the best back to ever come out of X...

3.) Drew Eckman...a very hard running fullback who worked his butt off in the off-season.

X.... as everyone knows.....runs their QB also...

X this year has shown the ability to pass....and with speedster Will Simmons at WR....it makes defending the Tigers a lot harder than just worrying about Vic....

Un-believeable X stat.....X has almost 2 times more passing yards than our pass-happy rivals at Trinity....( X has played 1 more game)

Keying on Vic is not a good idea!

  3. I agree with RP....you just can't expect these kids to come in the first couple of games and be firing on all cylinders with a new Off. Coord. There has to be time for adjustments....T will be fine...and will get better each week. Their D looks like they will carry the team on their shoulders until the O is fine tuned..

Manual always plays tough in the big games

  4. Who wins and why????????

Highlands...so far has rushed the ball for 904 yards and passed for 230 (KHSAA site). Their QB is 20-44 in pass attempts.

You must have a better passing game to beat X. The tigers have only allowed 97 yards rushing in the past 3 games combined...and those teams were no cream-puffs.

X will pressure the Highlands QB to try and force him into bad decisions. His less than 50% completion rate will hopefully fall below 30% in this game.

    I pick X by 14.

  5. They don't play KHSAA football, KHSAA did away with 8-man.

I asked about the 8th graders and he said they didn't play them, they were allowed to dress and stand on the sideline. The kid that got trucked was a freshman. I misunderstood what he said, I aksed about numbers in an earlier conversation after reading Xman's post about 25 guys becuase Jody Demling says they have 45 in the blog. It was then that he mentioned the 8th graders and dressing and I mistook what he said, he was talking fast and heated about the comments I was reading to him.

They have 22 varsity guys, 12 of whom are seniours. They expect to have 25 varsity including freshmen next year when they begin KHSAA play.

He adds that they could have played an 8th grader but don't want to anger the KHSAA, all of their other sports are already KHSAA.

I wonder how he thought the parents of the Evangel kids felt???

Kick the ball and we wouldn't be having this conversation....kick the squib but not intentionally 10 yards and he wouldn't feel heated over someone questioning his sportsmanship.....

It was his decision....He can deal with it!.....

  6. He also says that everyone for Beth Haven played except a couple of 8th graders, they started putting in the 8th graders and a couple got trucked by # 5 so they pulled them to prevent injury.

Unless the rules have changed this year....he is not allowed to play 8th graders in a varsity game...Soccer and football are the exceptions to the 8th grader eligiblity rules

  7. I just talked to a Beth Haven coach and he has a rebuttal.

They didn't onside kick (10+ yarder where the kicking team tries to recover the ball), they squibb kicked it, a low bouncing kick on the ground down the field to avoid # 5 on the return. They did play 2nd string, in the 3rd qtr the 2nd string QB fumbled and # 5 for Evangel returned it for a TD, # 5 also had 2 kickoff returns for TD's and a couple of TD runs, he scored all of Evangel's TD's except one.

They didn't intentionally go for 2, a bad snap/hold resulted in the backup QB (holder) jumping up and going for 2.

Beth Haven is a spread it out pass and throw down the field team, but in the 4th qtr they pulled everyone in into a double tight (in 8-man that's 5 on the line) and had the QB and 2 RB's in the backfield and they ran between the tackles trying to run the already running clock and end the game.

I'm going to have to call him on some of this....There was no doubt that they were kicking on-side kicks...no doubt!....On one kick the ball didn't even go 6 yards so for some reason they were given another try and that kick only went about 11. All of these so-called squib kicks never went more than 15 yards....and the other players all collapsed to that side of the kick....kinda of sounds like an onside me....sure as heck looked like one.

They did start to run the ball late in the 4th but still had the majority of their 1st string in the game.....

I would not kick to #5 either...if he played for a team with better lineman....or just more of them....he would be included in some Mr. Football talks...He has Vic Anderson moves, speed and size.....He is a one man show for Evangel....His name is DeMarcus Blakemore....he will be a steal for some college team as he is under the radar playing for such a small program that has only been around for about 4 years.

  8. First I applaud you for being involved in your child's education and sending the message to them that education is very important. As a teacher, I wish more parents had this mindset.

To your question, I have heard at state basketball tournaments, this answer to your example and question. You are an exception. Yeah, you can find some just like you but the overwhelming majority is "silver spoon."

As far as RunFirst, not all have that choice. It might come down for them on whether to pay the electric bill or a camp. Not all who work have a job that PROVIDES overtime hours like X85 gets. As a coach, I have paid out of my pocket shoes for players, camp fees for players in which I knew their parents could not afford it.

In my time at X...I was far from the exception...It was the silver spoon kids that were the exception. Are their rich kids at X...of course....but the majority of kids at X were just like me...working middle class...and proud of it.

You sound like a coach that cares about the kids...and I applaud you for that...it takes someone who shows they care to make a difference..

  9. I just got home from watching a little 8-man high school football. Evangel Christian played host to Beth Haven. The final score was 90-40 Beth Haven.

Evangel Christian has only 14 players on the whole team and 2 of those were out hurt by the 4th Q.

Beth Haven had around 25 and played their starters the whole game. They even on-side kicked every kickoff in the 2nd half except the final one. They also faked a PAT when up 40 points:eek: ....with their starters...

I would be thoroughly embarrassed to be a Beth Haven parent. They had several kids on the sideline that did not see playing time, while their starters were running on-side kids when up 30, and 40 points.

How do you justify this?....and from a so-called Christian school at that????:irked: :madman: :fight:

    Totally class-less...!

  10. X's starting D held FC to -50 yards rushing....awesome.....After X emptied the bench FC finished with a total of 6 yards rushing on 26 attempts. Very impressive.

FC only had 91 yards passing for the game for a total of 97 yards of total Offense.....Outstanding!

Vic, again, was a man playing among boys....14 carries for 149 yards and 3 Tds. ...over 10 yards a carry.....

X must improve on special teams....
