I'm very pleased to congratulate former Bat Bear Josh Cummins who was recently named head coach of the Bracken County High School baseball team. Josh was integral part of last year's coaching staff and was a pleasure to coach as a student athlete. He has developed an excellent raport with the players and great desire to make Bracken County succeed at this level.

The Head Honcho says Appleman will see an increase in carries this week.
I would hope he does. While it was a different offense, he did lead the Polar Bears in carries and touchdowns last season. He runs hard inside and opens up the outside for Fisher.

We know what was gained on Bracken's side! New Coach Sam Elsbernd! You are correct that they will be the most improved team in the region. Coach Elsbernd will have those girls playing extremely hard on the defensive side of the ball.
Sam Elsbernd is a good coach. Saw him on the boys sideline last season as an assistant and have heard good things. However, it is going to take time for him to completely right the program after 3 coaches in 3 years. I agree that Bracken will be committed to playing hard defense, but this is his first time being a head coach and I'm sure there will be some growing pains as he builds the program.

Makes perfect sense to drive 25 minutes when you can actually grab a bite to eat after the game or go grocery shopping, etc. If I recall correctly the first time Augusta beat Mason County was in the Fieldhouse by a pretty big margin, it's not like it's impossible to beat them at there, especially now.
Bracken County can continue to protest the seeding all they want, but it's never going to happen and will only hurt them in the long run.
How is this hurting them in the "long run"?
If a school wants to host and has the facilities to do so, there shouldn't be a problem with them hosting.

Now if they could just get the rocks out of the football field...
Nothing like playing on rocks to make you tough! The football field could really use some work. Those kids deserve better.

Would not second guess this coach. Did not see any reason from last year's performance to believe Deaton would/could out-perform this QB. Candidly, Deaton had a shotgun for an arm in baseball, but that skill does not always transfer to throwing a football. Lots of factors. In my case, my hand was too small to adequately grip the ball. In 60's we were throwing footballs shaped like long basketballs.
Deaton didn't play baseball...must have him confused with someone else.

Oh, my, Bear19. Refer to Winston Churchill's quote earlier. One other point.....you can't read the big picture message on the billboard if you are standing six inches from it.
What's the big picture?

Before Scooter got to Bracken they could barely compete with anyone. Since he has been steering the ship they are competing with everyone.

Can you share your source for this conclusion? Could not find it myself.
3 team districts are required to seed, however, it doesn't mean they would be forced to play. A team could choose to not play and give the win to the other team for the sake of seeding.

Tad Fisher from Bracken County throws a mean knuckle!

Awesome complex!

After watching Coach Douglas' teams I've been very impressed with her motion offense and interior passing game. That seems like an excellent hire.

I don't think so without approval.

Some games have stats on the KHSAA scoreboard and some don't and some are just pitching. What is causing this? With Gamechanger being used I would think all games would have them.
-
Hard to miss a sign using that system. Half the teams in the College World series the last 2 years have used it.

Trey Deaton has had great numbers as a starter.

Nice pics Brooksville. Notice those flags flying full bore outward to left. Between short left porch and that perpetual wind, that day had to be a flyball pitchers nightmare. Do not like size nor storage (?) obstructions in dugouts; but, do agree infield is above high school norm.
Have you been to field recently?

Shorten basketball season.

I'm pulling hard the the Black Bears!!!

Yep. He grew up in Clay County. Transferred to play football at N. Laurel, but born and raised in Clay Co.

Congrats Elliott! Love watching hard-nosed defense, fundamental, team oriented basketball!

Didn't Mason run rule Bracken a couple times last year? I know they lost a lot to graduation, but IMO Nick Nelson is a much better pitcher than Darren Williams was.
No, Mason won the 3 games, but none by run rule. Nick Nelson is a great pitcher and Mason will be extremely tough to beat with him on the bump.

I would love to see Coach Charles take over the football program. Would be an excellent choice and would probably be here long term!
He wouldn't be a good hire. I've heard his Fridays are booked from August through December.

Why exactly?
He has a passion for the game and is able to adapt to the team he has. As has been stated he came to a very down Bracken Co program and with hard work has been competitive. He has head coach experience along with success, I don't know what more Clay could ask for.

Wonder what the "head Honcho" will have to say?
