  1. I think NDA is breaking the culture with regards to AAU, Soccer and Club Volleyball and with the parents and administration. The coach is building numbers - Frosh, JV and Varsity - so that not only are the younger girls limited to the exsposure to the older girls and their "experiences", but they are all learning the fundamentals and should get playing time. Also, with such good athletes, some are getting cut from other sports because of the strong number of athletes in each class, so softball is finally getting the talent, albeit perhaps castoffs of the other sports. Convinced the administration to let the best players play varsity regardless of age and grade last year when some 8th graders played varsity. I'd give them a couple years for this frosh class to stay together and they will be on the same level as Ryle and Conner.

  2. Anderson is the achilles heel....8th region is loaded. WV is good but not good enough. Ginn is very good all round and Highlands has a good core, but until dethroned with their teams returning, Ryle and Conner are the teams to beat.

  3. We're they ever a contender - at least in recent memory?

I'm just expressing my opinion. I thought we could do this on BGP. Back to the topic, Elkus had a 24-54 record after 3 years at Dixie. I don't think that is acceptable with any administration. Hopefully, whoever they hire, can get the girls interested in basketball and bring Dixie back to a contender in the 9th.
  4. Happens to the best of us

Great question! When she did come in it "seemed" like she always came in for Johnson who is Ryle's best defender. In a game like this, the top/experienced performers need to stay on the floor until they have nothing left to give.

I'm not a fan of Ryle by any stretch, but I truly feel for Abby and the Jump family. When you dedicate yourself to the game like Abby has...this is a very tough time when the realization sets-in that your HS career is over regardless of when/how it ended. It's really tough on the parents as well and it'll hurt for quite a while, but she'll soon turn her focus to bigger & better things and this loss will be a distant memory.

  5. Steve coaches the softball during the basketball season.

I am trying to be kind....the coach is obviously very strong in fast pitch softball as she has won regional crowns at two different schools, but in basketball...not the case. I would argue that everyone in the 9th region with maybe the exception of Nell at Boone would trade their talent for hers.

And minus one superstar player for the Rebels-Nell would trade too...

The softball season did begin 02-15-11, and I do think in district and region play there has to be some organizational conflicts with basketball and softball.

  6. If Ryle does not get every first place vote, then the poll is a joke. They return most if not all of there key players from last years team. BB should be ranked some where in the top 5.

Holy Cross should get some votes for top 5. They pushed Ryle to the limit in the semi finals of the 9th last year and was 1 out from a possible upset. They did not lose much and have a freshman pitcher that will be one of the better pitchers in the Region. They also return their shortstop (Moran) who might be the best player in NKY, she is only a Sophmore but already has several offers from D1 schools and some strong interest from some major D1 schools.

Good Luck to all teams this season. Seems like NKY has better teams this year than in years past.

    Who is the freshman pitcher???

  7. Softball is the only thing that NDA hasn't been traditionally very good in. They haven't been dominant in basketball most of the last 20 years either, but have been much better in recent years. But other than that, they have been very good in virtually every other sport that I can think of.

The softball team will reap the benefits of many of these athletes cut from other sports as they are softball players as well. Historically, the NDA softball team never had athletes come out for the team as they played AAU and club in the other sports.
