  1. I haven't seen a 14th Region top to bottom rating since the first of the season and I know some have definetly changed their minds a month into the season. So lets agree and disagree with each other and get it started:

    1) Perry County Central (the team to beat for now)

    2) Leslie County (pre-ranked #1 and are starting to play well)

    3) Knott County Central (playing well but had disappointing loss to LCC)

    4) Lee County (Huge winning streak, there IS more than one Bobcat team in

    the 14th region)

    5) Jackson City (You all know they're my favorite team. Playing well, not

made much noise yet, will be tested today at Hazard)

    6) Hazard (Slow start but are hard to beat anytime, lost to PCC by only 2)

    7) Letcher Central (Has beaten KCC but have looked slow and sluggish at

times. Will still be hard to beat come years end)

    8) Estill County (Has one of the best bigmen in the region, this team is not

to be overlooked as I did in another poll)

    9) Cordia (Hard playing ballclub that can beat anyone in the 14th on a good

    night)

    10) Buckhorn (Quick and dangerous team that could also compete with

    anyone on a good night)

    11) June Buchanan (Couple of good young players, keyword there young,

couple years away from making noise)

    12) Wolfe County (Has #1 player in region but the buck stops there, until

Stamper gets back maybe, but for now Wolves #12)

    13) Owsley County (Has a great player in Neeley, but much like Wolfe, Robert

Smith will help but for now the Owls have Lucky 13)

    14) Powell County (Disappointing season for the Pirates and doesn't look any

brighter in the future, atleast not this year)

    15) Breathitt County (I hate to put the Bobcats here but at 1-8 and a big

loss to Hazard, 20 to Cordia, and 18 to Buckhorn at

home, I have to. Although I think they will move up)

    Lookout in the 2007 season)

    16) Jenkins (Been blowed out a couple times by average teams the Cavs will

have a hard time competing with mid region teams this year)

    17) Riverside (Although better than before, the Rams small selection of

players hurt them, but I am glad to see them doing a whole lot

better. Tommy Miller is a really great influence for these kids)

Switch Letcher and Knott. Switch Powell and Breathitt and I think you are right on for this time of the year. :thumb:
  2. Wright is positive, hard working and dedicated. The fruits of those qualities don't happen instantly but I believe they will blossom and Lee Co. can become a contender year in and year out. Much like Coach Combs has done with the baseball program. From a fan of high schools sports in general I say it is great to see what one individual in a program can do. Good luck Bobcats. I'll have to buy some Bobcat blue if you make it to Rupp.

  3. I have to agree with the Bobcat fans. I don't think Wright has had the teams to make it to the regional tourney in the past 8 years based on the strength of the other District rivals. Powell won a regional title,I think Wolfe has played in the finals twice if I am not mistaken. This is the first year in 8 to 10 that Lee has had the talent and the coaching to contend, not to mention that the district is down some this year but Estill will be the equalizer. I have seen all 4 teams play at least 3 times each and I would take Lee and give the other three. It is hard to beat a team 3 or 4 times however and Lee will have to do that to Estill if they are to win the 56th.

  4. 1. Perry Central

    2. Leslie Co.

    3.Lee Co.

    4.Estill Co.

    5. Letcher Central/Hazard

Lee is on fire right now and PCC will always be PCC. They just seem to reload. Leslie is definately in the top 5 but from what I have been seeing are struggling just a bit. Watched LCC at Wolfe and was not impressed at all. They got blew out by a Bourbon Co. team that Cordia was in the ballgame with up until the end the night before.

  5. If there are 2 or 3 better players in the 14th than Berryman I can't wait to see them. He has it all guard size, shooter, leaper, headsy. Great player. Yes, there was a contact run. If Powell would play that way the entire game their physical style would be tough to handle for 32 minutes even though they are down this year.

  6. Happens every year:

    2005

    14th Region Champs PCC vs.

    Clay County 2-8 L

    North Laurel 5-9 L

    2004

    14th Region Champs Hazard vs

    Rockcastle 0-3 L

    Cumberland 3-6 L

14th Region Runner-Up Powell County vs

    Williamsburg 0-10 L

This year NL, Whitley, Corbin, Middlesboro, and maybe a few others could beat the 14th champion handily.

Powell pitched 120 pound freshman at 10 o'clock at night after playing 2 that day and not starting 2 seniors. Not a good example.
  7. I think there are a lot of good players in the 14th. I do believe that there are 7 or 8 players that can really be great if they live up to the hype, but that is why we still play the game. i will be excited to see what players really step up and go to the next level. With the exception of Powell losing 5 players and PCC losing Combs most of the higher quality players are returning to their prospective teams so it will be fun to watch who comes to the top as individuals. I don't think there is a top 10 team in the region that doesn't have at least one player that can be the #1 when all is said and done.

  8. We have a great deal of talent in the 14th. I wonder if we could hold a preseason All Star type game. The purpose was to make some kids visible to collegiate coaches as well as reward them. I think if they were seen early then you might get a collegiate coach to come and if he sees something he likes then he could follow that young man during his senior season and possibly open a door that would have otherwise been closed. You would probably get the better kids since the season would not have taken place and you would not be competing with vacations, camps, etc. I am sure there are pitfalls in the early spring as well but it might be worth looking at if you are truly trying to promote the young men and are trying to help further their baseball careers. JMO You might also have more coaches get involved since it would be early and not after a hectic, tiring season. Have a rules clinic or medical symposium earlier in the day. Might kill 2 or 3 birds with the same rock. Just thinking.

  9. I understand the format but most of the folks on this thread were the same one's defending one of the players earlier this year. If we are going to send the top 2 then maybe how they are selected needs to be re-evaluated. Don't mean to change the thread but it's just an opinion. I would love to have the problem of Munice and Hendrix on the same team. What a nice problem that would be.

  10. If coaches know the kids in the 14th then they feel Muncie is a better all around player than any other kid or they would not have voted him to the east/west team as one of only two juniors??? Muncie has hit well over 300 and closer to 400 for 4 straight years. Started as an 8th grader and has started on 2 regional runner up teams and 2 regional semi final teams already. Great speed, good glove and just a baseball player. doesn't play any other sports. Hendrix is a great player no doubt but if I was starting a team I would rather anchor it with Muncie at short. 11. High school stats mean little to nothing to a good collegiate coach. With the way most stats are kept at the high school level the simple validity of them are questioned. Outside of hitting 15 homers most stats are overlooked by solid coaches when it comes to making their teams. I am sure that some institutions keep solid stats and I am not saying that across the board but the majority of schools have some kid keeping stats that is doing it just to keep his coach happy. Statistics are a part of baseball and always will be but have been and will be overlooked by good collegiate recruiters and coaches due to a various number of reasons some of which I have already mentioned.
