I bad 11th region week for the Cardinals!
-
Why are you intent on calling it an error?
The KHSAA knew that any games at PJCS would be contingent on Louisville's schedule and the Big East, not Louisville determined the schedule. The KHSAA has a plan in place, problem solved. If you have a problem don't attend. Simple solution.
As to your convenience, maybe just maybe student athletes from Louisville deserve a chance to play for championships in their hometown since SAs from Lexington sure seem to have that opportunity fairly regularly. If I sound hostile it's because I do get a bit defensive when someone looks for any excuse to suggest that the one championship that Louisville hosts should be taken away from them, particularly when they have been financially successful in Louisville.
And finally, I'm sure that whoever the two teams are that play the fourth game of the weekend on a torn-up grass field will be just overjoyed to play in a mud bowl. And who will pay the extra cost to repair the field after four games??
The best venue for the high school championships is in Louisville, regardless of the schedule of games.
What do I hear bitterness in your post? That's your line from a previous post and it certainly fits here.
Relax.....no one wants to take away your championships. It needs to be modified for one year and we are all offering alternatives. My alternative selfishly would like to see a championship in Lexington in 2006. UK does have a beautiful stadium, has a central location, and a nice field that is used 6 or 7 times a year. Never any mud, either.
How about three Friday in Louisville and one Saturday in Lexington? How about two and two? "RockPride" is correct is saying the 4A championship should be in Louisville because of who plays that championship each year.
Don't have a heart attack, "AllTell". No one is attempting to permanently steal your championships.
-
Why in the world should 4A be in Lexington, when two Louisville schools have made the finals in 5-6 years?
Very good point!
-
Unless you're a fan of Lex Cath, odds are your team won't be there anyway.
My "team" doesn't have to be there for me to go and watch the games. And I would love to see Lexington Catholic play in the championship.
Nice attempt at a cheap shot, but you missed here.

No mention of Tyler Wilkerson of Lafayette. He is listed at 6'8" and is probably legit 6'7". He has to be on this list by size alone although his skills are surprisingly good for a kid who hasn't played much before this year.

You are right, they were all about even with each other. I totally agree. But SL was just a little bit better then all the rest when it mattered most..... and that makes them the BEST! Why cant you just admit that?
Your NFL analogy is terrible considering the talent level and margin for error between the Super Bowl champion and the worst team in the NFL (by worst I mean with the worst record) is miniscal. Sure the best team in the NFL may not win the Super Bowl, but that is because every team is talented, well coached, and can beat any other team on any given day. Very rarely is a team favored over another team by 21 or more points. Thats because blowouts dont happen often, and there are "upsets" if you will have it, all the time. However, when you are talking KY HS boys basketball, the same cannot be said. Of course its possible, but the BEST team usually prevails, and when you are talking about the state tourney, where its the best of the best, I'd say that whoever wins the title (barring an unprecedented upset at some point and time) is without a doubt the best team.
But besides that (and this is totally for a different thread, but just trying to prove a point)..... I'd still say that the Steelers were the best team in the NFL. Who would you say was the absolute best team in the NFL this year. The Colts? We saw what the Steelers did to them. Vouch it was a battle, but in a tight game like that, I'd say the better team won out. If the Colts were the better TEAM, then they would have hit that fieldgoal. The Seahawks? Well you might have an argument here considering they got absolutely jobbed on some big calls, however I still doubt that any of that changes the outcome of the game. The Patriots? Denver beats them solidly then Denver gets waxed by the Seahawks! The Bengals? Sure what if Carson Palmer hadnt gotten hurt, blah blah blah. But he did. If the Bengals were the best TEAM then someone would have stepped up in his place and delivered a win. Sure its easy to remember Peyton Manning and the Colts offense, or Chad Johnson running his mouth, or the Pats 3 in 4 years, etc etc etc. But the fact remains that the Steelers WON every game when it counted and that = the best!
Its like you have this "mystical" best team in your head, as if you are comparing all the teams from last seasons sweet 16 on paper and if all the teams play to their full potential and bring their A+ game in the sweet 16 then SL doesnt win it all, and whichever team you think would, is the best team. It's like you are doing the same thing with the NFL analogy.
But that isnt how it works. Games arent played on paper, they are played on a court. You have to prove it on the court. That is the beautiful thing about sports. Sure, certain teams get a bad draw....... and have to play night games and morning games, and 2 games in 1 day. Injuries happen, backups have to play. Sure refs lean a certain way, and the ball doesnt bounce the way you want it to sometimes. But that is sports..... you fight through it...... and whatever TEAM comes out on top can claim, we are the BEST!
Sure SL may not have been the best team on paper, but they were the best team on the court, and that is what counts.
A very wise man to be so young!

A 6'0" tight end in college? I have seen Ben play and I love his aggressiveness which would bode well at linebacker. Regardless, he is under "lengthed" at any collegiate position except the defensive backfield which speed eliminates him from playing.
-
No bitterness here, but I would rather walk to Commonwealth Stadium than drive to Papa Johns Stadium. And I am not interested in any state final on Sunday to accommodate what appears to be a scheduling error.
I have advocated for years for Lexington and especially UK to campaign for the high school football championships. Commonwealth is a beautiful stadium and six or seven games per year are played on this field. Why would UK care if their field was torn up in December?
-
Puhleese
Commonwealth Stadium looks like a reject from an Alcoa plant, those bleacher seats are pathetic and the add on suites in the endzones are ridiculous.
I'd rather watch a game in PJCS any day.
Well you won't be watching the state championships this year at Papa Johns Stadium because someone evidently dropped the ball on scheduling.
-
Henry Clay will beat Scott County on Henry Clay's home floor! Preview to the district tournament.
-
Papa Johns is one of the poorest designed stadiums I have ever been in. The exit aisles are about four feet wide. Talk about bottlenecks to get to your seat or to the concession stand at halftime.
Commonwealth Stadium is as nice a venue as there is in the country.
The field is beautiful but the caliber play on the field often is lacking!
Louisville deserves to lose the state finals this year due to their scheduling negligence! Lexington will be a good host this year.
-
I would have thought Ben Guidugli would be projected to be a college linebacker, but he mentions several times in the article that UC and Colorado talked of "working into the offense".
What position will be play at UC?
-
That's fine.
Seems ironic for Dunbar's administration or FCPS to prohibit playing a school who can't give athletic scholarships, but play a school who gives athletic scholarships.
Fantastic point!

1. South Laurel
2. Pendleton County
3. Scott County
4. Elizabethtown
5. PRP
Another accurate list!

IMO
Accurate list from what I have seen this year!
-
Don't ever discount a championship. South Laurel won it. That means they were the BEST team.
If you want to talk about your favorite team, the team you liked watch the most, or the team that should have won it, start a thread to that effect.
South Laurel was the BEST team in 2005! Championships that are cheapened are sour grapes.
-
Subtract the scores of their last two games where the scored 183 combined, the previous 19 games they averaged 63 points per outing.
They are well coached and play a controlled half-court game.
Why the sudden offensive explosion? Can't score 100 in a controlled half-court offense.
-
100 points.......I am impressed. Is this Pineville team that explosive? If so, I would like to see them play.
What style of ball do they play on a regular basis? Full court pressure?
-
I have not seen Highlands this year. After seeing them numerous times last year, it seemed they had some good young talent, but to develop into the kind of team they have become this year, I must admit I am a bit surprised.
Hats of to the job Coach Schlarman has done for the Bluebird basketball program. It is obvious you Highlands folks have an outstanding coach although I sure I am not telling you anything you didn't already know.
Big win over Station. I would have guessed their quickness would have bothered Highlands.

The correct answer to the question is "YES".
The probability of the correct answer coming true is "NILL".
-
The potential of the 5th and 13th; and 4th and 10th is getting me excited already. The Sweet Sixteen is a magical time of year.
-
I also think it is a credit to the University of Kentucky and Rich Brooks and staff to stand by this fine young man as he rehabs his knee.
Coaches of lesser moral fiber might have considered Chris Cessna damaged goods and walked away from their scholarship offer.
-
I thought this might be an interesting matchup. I feel it might be a good scheduling spot for Lafayette in that Scott County was coming off of playing in the Toyota Classic on three successive nights.

IMO!!!:thumb:

If he is the best shooting freshman in the state, I feel like I need to know more about him. Who/where is Alex Fornash?
