  1. So you ignore where I use his OBP from last year?

Cincy is in first place by 3 games. Imagine where they would be if they could get somebody on in front of Votto...

Pierre's OBP in the leadoff spot this year is ... .306, not exactly sparkling.

Again, his OBP isn't exactly a strength, and it doesn't make up for his other issues. He signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies, which tells you there wasn't much demand for him in the offseason. There is a reason for that.

  2. I doubt his arm would make a difference at all, IMO. Maybe a run a month, if that.

As far as offensively just take a look at this point...

Joey Votto hits .384 with runners on and .368 with RISP.

The Reds leadoff position is getting on base at a .197 clip.

Pierre is getting on base at a .359 clip. That's 16.2% more at-bats for Votto with a runner on...

Even if you use his OBP of .329 of last year (which was his lowest by far since 2008) then that's still 13.2% more at-bats for Votto with a runner on. That's going to equal a lot more runs.

Again, stats based on a mere two months.

If your team is in a position to where Juan Pierre is considered an improvement, your team has some issues.

  3. He played about 2 and 1/3 years in Denver...He has put up the majority of his good years in Fla, both Chicagos and LA...FLA is not a hitters park and im not sure that Denver had an affect on him either because he doesnt hit for power...
Seriously, what were Pierre's good seasons? He was fine in 2004 and had a good year as a semi-regular in 2009, but that's it. Teams are blinded by his speed and think he's a leadoff hitter, when actually he's not even that good a leadoff hitter.

He hits leadoff if he doesnt score how is that his fault...He does everything he can do to get on including bunting and stealing and he has speed...
That's just it ... he doesn't get on base all that often, certainly not enough to overcome his shortcomings.

You make it sound like your version of the ultimate leadoff hitter is Drew Stubbs...
    What a crock.
  4. Over 2000 hits...An average OBP just points below. 350...An average for his career of just under. 300...Same number of walks as strikeouts...Over 550 steals, 87 triples...

5 straight seasons without missing a game...Led the league in base hits 2 times, top 5 five times...10 straight seasons top 5 SB's...Top 5 singles ten times...5 times top 5 in Sac hits...10 seasons top 5 in ABs per K

Most of his "good" seasons were in hitters' paradise in Denver ... despite playing nearly every day, Pierre hasn't scored 100 runs in a season as a leadoff hitter since 2005.

If he plays every day, who cares if he isn't that good? He doesn't walk all that much, so who cares if his walks and Ks are close? And what do sacrifices and ABs per strikeout have to do with determining what is a good player? If he's bunting that often, his team must not think he's a very good hitter.

You have basically said through all of this that you would rather have Harris than Pierre...Absurd
I said nothing of the sort. If you want to take shots at me, get your facts straight.
  5. He has had a very very productive career though, you are not making any sense...And he is still having a very productive year, tell me what from an offensive standpoint isn't or hasn't been productive about Pierre? I don't want to hear about his arm in LF that is why he plays LF everyone knows that, he still has good range and your not going to give away games with him being out there...For the Reds he would have been signed to be nothing more than a Left Handed hitter off the bench just like Harris was signed for...However if he hit for the Reds like he has hit for the Phills he would have forced his way possibly into majority Starts in LF and the lead-off hitter...
If you really think Juan Pierre has been a productive player for much of his career ... well, enough said.
  6. So far this year the average for the # 1 spot in the order is a .319 OBP and a .699 OPS

    2011: .328-.727

    2010: .329-.711

Pierre obviously supplies no power, but he could be useful for the Reds at the top of the order...

I'm not sure how you say his stats aren't productive when they are roughly the same as the MLB average for leadoff hitters.

An "average" OBP for a leadoff hitter, combined with no power, perhaps the worst outfield arm in the majors ... that doesn't equate to anything resembling a productive player.
  7. Why do you think that every 3B has to be a power hitter? If you get your dongs from another position you don't have to have a hammer playing 3B. Rolen certainly doesn't equate to a power hitter anymore.
I didn't say anything about power, although Frazier is the Reds' best bet at 3B at the moment.

Cozart simply won't hit enough to be anything remotely better than an average 3B, and it would be a waste of his defensive skills.

  8. That's what I was thinking...I'm a huge Cozart fan I love his defense and his bat has lots of potential...However If that trade would ever go down Cozart would shift to 3rd...Epstein is now saying that Castro is unavailable though, he is the future of their team...I was wondering how long it would be before Theo would shoot down the Castro talk...For what it's worth I don't think Hamilton and Corcino would be enough to snag him anyways and like I said I definitely wouldn't be willing to part with them...The Reds system is pretty bare with Star caliber prospects and I would trade almost anyone but those two...
Once again, Cozart won't hit enough to man 3B ... his recent struggles enforce that view. Cozart is a fine shortstop, and doesn't have very much value in the major leagues aside from that.
  9. You need to know a lot more :thumb:

Anyone is crazy if they wouldn't have rather Signed Pierre over Harris in the off-season to perform the same role on this Reds team...Both players were signed to identical contracts, $800,000...

I know that Harris and Pierre aren't the same player with the same role. Harris was signed as a utility infielder and played 2B and 3B with the Reds ... he never saw time in the outfield, even though he has some experience there.

Unless Pierre was suddenly converting to the infield, a little dicey given that he's left-handed, the comparison is invalid.

If you're going to compare Pierre to one of the current Reds, compare him to Ludwick and Heisey, the guys that play the same position.

And Pierre wouldn't have been a wise signing, at least for use as an everyday player. In the last seven years, he has put up a .334 OBP and .685 OPS ... that isn't productive.

  10. If the Cubs paid alot of Soriano's salary would anybody want him in LF?
As a Cubs fan, I would say ... please take Soriano.

Also it says the Cubs would listen to offers for Castro for 2 big time prospects, would Hamilton and Corcino get it done and if so would you guys do it?...Bryan Lahair seems like a cheap possibility as long as he could be decent in Left...
Wouldn't be enough to get Castro. LaHair would be only slightly better than Alonso, if at all, in the outfield.
  11. Carlos Quentin is going to be great trade bait | HardballTalk

Quentin has been on fire since coming off the DL...He is also playing in SD which I guess doesn't matter because he hasn't played there enough yet, but it would be nice to get him before he falls into a SD funk...Quentin in Cincy in LF batting Cleanup would be a huge upgrade...He has been in the news since coming off the DL as being available...I think I read the Padres would love to ship him soon since he has come off the DL with a bang and is value is probably higher than it will be all summer, especially once he starts hitting at Petco...I believe the Padres get nothing for him if he walks after the year and they got him from the Sox for 2 low to mid level prospects, if they can ship him off now for a few prospects with value they may be able to get a good return on their investment in him...

I would be willing to give them either Stubbs and or Leake from the ML Roster and anyone not named Hamilton, Corcino, Lutz or Cingrani from the farm...The Reds could surely come up with an appealing package between Stubbs/Leake and one or two of Soto, Joseph, Rodriguez, Bowe, Vidal and Gregorius...

The Padres already have a Drew Stubbs ... his name is Cameron Maybin. And if Stubbs was dealt, who would play CF?

    Leake would have some value.
