  1. I don't believe I've ever seen an athlete who seems to get rattled less than Tim Tebow. Despite his flaws as a Quarterback, that aspect of him is nothing short of remarkable from my vantage point.

People get tired of it, but it is all centered around his faith. Football isn't his life and it doesn't define him. That's a frequent refrain, but more often than not it is untrue. With Tebow it is true. He really is content with giving his very best, leaving the results to God.

And, to date, just as there's no disputing the fact that he's a sub-par QB by NFL standards, there's no disputing that if its a close game at the end, he finds a way to make plays.

From what we've seen thus far, he wouldn't be my preference to have as my starting QB, but he's intriguing enough that I wouldn't care to have him on my roster to see if he could develop his passing skills.

The problem here is that the Jets situation isn't ideal. Sanchez is hot-and-cold and Tebow's presence just adds another clown to the circus in New York. But, if Tebow ends up playing for the Jets, I wouldn't be surprised if the end result turns out similar to last year. Their defense should keep them in games, so it will likely come down to making plays at the end.

  2. Just to chime in again, the majority of NFL games are close. We can come up with a criteria for catagorizing "close losses", just for number's sake.

But, the reality is, the final score of a game doesn't tell you all about that game. Just because a game would fall outside of the close loss criteria doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't close. Say the Bengals and Steelers were playing and the game was tied with 5 minutes to play. Pitt scores a TD to go up 7, then Cincy gets it back with 3 minutes to play only to have the Steelers defense return an int for a TD. In reality, I'd call that a close game, but the final score might say otherwise. It's just the opposite of a team scoring right at the end to make the final score a one-possession game.

  3. One possession is a close loss, IMO. But, you have to watch the game. Not all one possession finals were truly one possession games. If a team scores with 8 seconds left to cut a lead from 14 to 7, that is different than a team having the ball with 3-4 minutes trailing by seven and failing to score.

But, if a team loses by 8 or less, with a chance to get the ball back, or if they had the ball and failed, I'd consider that a close game myself. Anything can happen and a big play is possible at any time.

  5. I knew the order of operations, but I didn't remember PEDMAS until it was brought up in the thread.

Not surprised by the result. Our secretary at work went on for two days about a problem similar to this and how you could get different answers depending on how you worked it. I knew immediately that it had to be something like this, but I didn't tell her. I wanted to see how long it would take her to figure it out. My boss finally told her and ruined my little private experiment. I heard her ask several friends on the phone and they didn't know. Another guy at work didn't know.

I always liked math, so I enjoy stuff like this. But, this is not a piece of knowledge that I've ever needed in the real world, and since many people don't like math, the results are not surprising.

  6. And obviously I cannot relate since I am not black. But from my perspective we are never going to get anywhere with racial divides and tolerance if people search for ways to be offended at everything.

    I agree.

Obviously NBC is the target, but the responses to this says a lot about the people who claim to be offended. And, of the offended, I suspect there are two groups...some uber-sensitive people who are truly offended and those who are looking to be offended so they can fire up the band once more.

  7. You know, I was talking about that with my buddy that I saw the movie with. It sure would seem that would be the direction Nolan was pointing...

I thought more of Nightwing than Robin. I don't think Robin would even register as an afterthought in Chris Nolan's world. Nightwing however, is alright. I could see a story where he takes over Bruce Wayne's legacy, but rather than be Batman, he'd alter the suit and create a new character with the same cave and gadgets. Just a guess.

I don't expect Nolan to be making the movie, but I could see Warner Bros. and DC going forward with it. They could just start entirely new, but if they wanted, I think Nolan left them a perfect starting point and back-story for a Nightwing character and movie(s). I'd watch it.
