Tigers still looking for that win at WMS. It’s a magical place for the Cardinals and Hell for my Tigers. Not sure it’s something you can even prepare for. Must play mistake-free football to have a chance.
Congrats to Mayfield. Looks like everyone stayed healthy, so I expect that they will go on to win another title on Friday.

BW looked like they got hosed with a quick whistle on their last drive that led to a turnover on downs.
Followed by Mayfield getting an extra yard on their 4th and 2. Marked by the same Official.

It takes 500.00 to stream the semifinal round. We have already paid that, and we will be live from War Memorial on Friday. Thanks to all the kind people who donated so that we can be on the air. GO BIG RED!
(Cardinal red, that is 😊)
Donation coming from this Tiger fan. I really enjoyed your LCA game broadcast. Perfect blend of homer/fan and honesty.

Like many of their first downs, the Colonels get the benefit of the refs quick incorrect call. Ball not only never crossed the goal line, it was in the possession of BW55 a yard away from the line.

From what I witnessed, to keep the program at its current level, new coach has to be in the building. His impact on kids all day, not just after school, was a huge reason for the success IMO. Not saying success couldn’t happen with an outside person, but wouldn’t be the same. He was all in, always available, and the kids knew it.
Problem is Noel is not retiring from teaching and not aware of any admin/teaching positions that will be open this year. Of course, that could change.

Is he really retiring or just thinking about open jobs across the river? Either way, he's earned whatever he decides to do next.
He just built a new house and his wife retired last year. My guess is they are ready to enjoy leisure life, get ready for grandkids, and to focus on health.

I believe this will be the first time that there isn’t someone on coaching staff to take over. That is that is also on District Staff.

Beechwood just officially announced Noel Rash retirement. He met with Football Players this morning and it was just made official. Press release attached.

Congrats Breds. I thought they would go deep in playoffs when they played Beechwood.

I had forgotten the JV game wasn’t with HC. Thanks for the clarification.

Will Holy Cross play the JV game no matter the outcome (assuming no injuries)?
Sat JV game has already been canceled. Heard that earlier today.

Re Berger, he also is Beechwood's punter. One of his 50 yard+ punts was down at the 1 yard line and led to the safety Beechwood got against Dixie, so you could say he had a hand in all 37 of Beechwood's points. Berger has hit numerous numerous 50 yard+ punts with hangtime throughout the year and at least a 1/2 dozen of his punts have been downed inside the ten.
I will also add that when Beechwood needs a big kick off, Berger does the kickoffs. He can put the ball in the end zone on kickoffs.
The young man is a special athlete. I have said several times this year that if Berger was able to focus on punting more, he could be a college punter. If he was able to spend more time on place kicking, he could be a college level place kicker.
I was typing my response when you posted this. Couldn’t agree more. I love to watch him punt. He’s an artist, whether they need a precise 40 yarder or booming all max yardage, he’s gotten it done. Deep in the playoffs this is going to be a difference maker.

Although I must admit I don’t stay up on it every year, but I don’t recall another Mr. Football candidate like Berger. IMO, a true “Mr Football.”Offensive and Defensive star and adding in kicking and punting. More importantly, a great representative for his school and KY HS sports.

What would a win have done?
Left a feeling of invisibility to be exploited by a good 2A team. 😉

Good to hear and all the Erdmans are blessed with great athletic ability.
No doubt. I didn’t think it was possible, but Luke may be the most blessed. Looking forward to watching him for the next couple of years.

This. This game will probably do more to help the Tigers win 2A (if they win it) than any game all season.
I certainly didn’t mean to imply a Championship was guaranteed. I don’t even feel appearance in the finals is a given. I catch a lot of grief for my negativity, but it’s really just “cautious optimism” that comes from witnessing many great Tiger teams turn in their equipment the Monday after Thanksgiving.

At the end of the 1Q, I truthfully was thinking that Beechwood was more than likely to win. Cov Cath was playing well and appeared to be executing on their game plan, but I thought Beechwood was playing with more excitement. I felt, at that moment, that that was most likely to swing things in Beechwood's favor once all was said and done.
In hindsight, I think the overall feeling behind the teams in that moment reminds me a little more of the way it felt being a Cov Cath player against Moeller when we played them each year in the 90s. With little exception, we could be as fired up as we wanted to be going into the game, and as gritty and ready to go as possible, but Moeller would just come into the game and they had this kind of quiet "this is another day at the office" confidence to the way they played. They were hard to shake. I remember even when we would score, they were just lined up and ready to go for the PAT within seconds like, "You guys just scored, right? Are you going to get going with this PAT? We're ready for it." We would get done celebrating after the touchdown and then it was like, "Oh, that didn't even rattle them at all."
I'm not saying Cov Cath had THAT kind of confidence going into things tonight. Frankly, I know I didn't have that kind of confidence in the win going into things. But I feel like it was similar to that, looking back.About the time you were still thinking BW would win is about the time I was having “Uh Oh” thoughts. Even with the scoreboard showing the teams equal at the end of Q1, I didn’t feel like it was even. I felt like the Tigers were simply surviving and I didn’t think they could go punch for punch for 3 more qtrs. With most players going two ways, they just don’t have what it takes to keep up against a solid, well-coached team. Especially in the trenches where it mattered.
So is life when you schedule the big boys. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Our Tigers will be fine. -
While I thought it would be a close battle, I thought the Tigers would pull out a W. Out-prepared, Out-played, Out-coached. Congrats Colonels.
On to a run at another state title Tigers. Championship Trophies have tremendous healing powers 😉
-
My thoughts on the BW JV… they have 4 skilled players that would be starting on almost any team in NKY. That Sowder to Erdman connection is crazy good. I’ve watched at least 3 perfectly timed passes hitting Erdman in full stride. Flaherty and Reigler are producers as well. Provided we can develop strong O and D lineman, the future is extremely bright.

Not sure about players, but parents that have been around the program for just a few years, were definitely believing the Tiger press. I said I had watched enough Colonel-Tiger matchups to know better.

Reading through comments on the Red Helmet Facebook and You Tube video reminds me to be grateful for BGP where it is mutual respect between knowledge fans and mostly good banter back and forth. Both fan bases should be embarrassed by the comments there.
