They simply didn't match up well with Catholic, especially in the trenches. With the exceptions of Lex Cath and possibly Bell County, there wasn't anyone else in Class 4A that was better than Lone Oak.
-
Was that hit Winston Guy laid on #24 of LO not brutal, they showed the replay on the jumbo tron like 3 times!!
Hickman took several hard shots throughout the playoffs yet continued to get right back up and kept ticking. After battling and defeating cancer, you can understand where his tough mentality comes from.

Great job Falcons!!!! I know your papas must be extremely proud. :ylsuper:
-
Both of you should just stop now. This guessing who could win against who is just wrong in this thread.
Congrats to both teams on a great year!
You're right. I'm just tired of someone trying to convince me that a team (Bell Co.) that beat two teams on their schedule with winning records could win convincingly over a team that defeated not one but two top ten teams on their way to Papa John's.
-
Have you watched Bell County this year? I sure disagree with you on this. Bell would have easily handled Lone Oak and I've seen both teams play. I don't think Lone Oak could have even played with Bell, like they couldn't play with Lexington Catholic.
Does Bell have 100+ on their roster? Do they have the athletes to cover Lone Oak's receivers like Catholic did? It really doesn't matter at this point but the Purple Flash is no lower than the third best team in Class 4A, no matter how bad they looked today. Today's game was simply won at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The Knights go two or three deep at all of those positions and Lone Oak's boys were going both ways and may have two reserves that gave the starters brief breathers.

Lone Oak isn't even in the same class as Lexington Catholic, and Bell County too for that matter. Wonder how many college coaches were watching Corey Robinson in this game?
I'm not even going to get sucked into the private/public debate but it is what it is. Lexington Catholic had twice the numbers and Lone Oak is a county school that hasn't, nor will they, consolidate with the other area county schools. Lone Oak would have fared just fine against Bell County. Might not have beaten them but they are still a solid third in Class 4A.

You've exceeded our wildest dreams and expectations this year. We're still proud of you Purple Flash. Nothing to hang your heads about being 2nd place in Class 4A!!!! Thanks for the ride and great memories this season.

KHSAA's webstream is back online.
-
Since KHSAA's site is having issues, can someone please post a link to where we can listen to the game?
-
Anyone else having problems logging into KHSAA's webstream?

Congrats to Central. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is the first Kentucky High School African-American coach to win a football state championship.
-
Central has overcame four turnovers and somehow has the lead. Should be a good second half.
-
Fumbles killing the Jackets! Can't keep giving a powerful team like Belfry such great field position.
-
Defense is the theme of this game thusfar.
-
Congrats to Beechwood!
On a side note: The most combined points ever (73) in Kentucky's Class A state championship game.
-
A great article in the Courier Journal concerning Corey Robinson:
Football fans in far Western Kentucky might have known about Corey Robinson a year ago, but after throwing for a national-record 90 touchdowns this season, the Lone Oak High School quarterback has attracted attention from across the country.
-
LONE OAK
1.) They're my alma mater
2.) Only six years ago they had a record of 0-10 and were outscored 19-518!
3.) It's their first championship game.
4.) It's also a school that has fought off consolidation and is taking on a private school.

Blow out by Lexington Catholic!
I think we understood what you meant in your first prediction in this thread.

Beechwood
Newport Central Catholic
Central
Lone Oak
Highlands
Saint Xavier
Tiebreaker - 69

After leading his team down the field to tie the game against Warren East, and passing for around 500 yards and four touchdowns (running for another) then he has to be a front runner. Oh yea, throw in the records he's absolutely destroyed it will be hard to deny him Mr. Football.

Sorry, Everyone in the state is not going to believe Lone Oak will beat Lexington Catholic. It's an opinion. Just like your opinion that they will win. Does that mean since you are saying Lone Oak will beat Lex Catholic, that that means Lex Cath should save their money and stay home.... ????
Fair enough. I think Lone Oak could very well lose this game but I just don't see it being a blow out. The Knights can't be any bigger than North Bullitt nor can they be any faster than Warren East. They do have the tradition, talent, and schedule and I do respect that aspect of their team.
-
Well darn, I guess the Flash contingent can just save their money and stay at home Saturday.
Warren East claimed the same thing that their only two losses came to state ranked teams too and the Purple Flash seemed to fare well against them.
Still trying to make non-believers believe one at a time.................
-
I just don't get the blowout predictions here in this thread. Hopefully Lexington Catholic will have that same mindset and overlook the Flash. Either way, Lone Oak has had doubters every step of the way and now it's time to prove to the state what a great team this is!
-
Lone Oak has to tackle better but dare I say I think this team has a destiny. :ylsuper:
Lone Oak, what is the deal?

I think Harrison's road was easier in the east. Harrison County lost earlier in the year to Marion County and they were eventually defeated in the second round in the west.
