  1. Name: Isaac Horsley

    School: Raceland High School

    Positions played:OL/DL

    Graduating year:2026

Height and weight: 6,3 355 lb

What are your goals for the 2024 season?

My goals for this season are to grow as a player but also to grow better and closer as a team, and hopefully have a safe and successful season.

What position on the offensive line do you believe you are best at?

I can play anywhere the team needs me to, but right guard is what I have always played.

What is the best part of playing on the line?

The best part about being a lineman is the bond you create with the guys lined up beside you and the friendships you make that hopefully last a lifetime.

What is the toughest part of being a lineman?

The toughest part about being a lineman is not only the physicality but also being a part of every single play and fighting to protect the guys behind you.

What was the highlight of your 2023 season?

Unfortunately, I had a season-ending knee injury in the first game of the season, so my 2023 season did not last very long.

What has been your biggest memory as an athlete?

My biggest memory is probably transferring to Raceland. When I came in a couple of weeks ago, the players and the coach really made me feel at home. I’m proud to be part of the Ram family now.

What has been your most embarrassing moment as an athlete?

Probably when I had my knee injury at the beginning of the 2023 season. I felt that I was letting my team down by not being able to play.

Who is the toughest teammate to face in practice?

Everyone on our team is a good athlete, and they all have their personal perks, but I would definitely say in the lineman category, Linden Sammsons or Jacob Litteral.

What is the toughest part of practice?

The intensity and toughness of practice may be rough sometimes, but those are the things that also make practices great.

Which game are you looking forward to the most?

I’m looking forward to this whole season with the team, but if I had to pick, I would say our Ashland game because they are a tough competitor and our first game of the season.

What is the strongest part of your game?

I think the strongest part of my game is my size and speed, but also being a good teammate and my adaptability to different situations.

How long have you played football, along with the reasons you continue to play?

I have played football my entire life, ever since I can remember. And continue to play because football teaches you valuable and important life lessons and skills.

    What is your go-to snack?

My go-to snack is definitely fruit.

What is your favorite subject or class?

    My favorite is definitely math.

Have you ever been to a Kentucky Christian football game?

Yes, and I have been to a couple.

This interview has had more reads than any interview I have posted from Kentucky.

  2. Name
    Michael Salmons

    School
    Raceland HS

    Position
    Head Coach

    College
    Thomas More College, 2003 grad
    Morehead State, 2009 grad

Would you share with everyone your coaching career, from your first job up to your current position?

I was hired at Raceland in July 2021 as an assistant coach and have spent 17 years here now.
7 as an assistant, and the last 10 as head coach.

Who are some of the coaches you have learned the game from, and how much of what you have learned from them will you incorporate into what you do?

I worked under Coach Randy Vanderhoof for 3 seasons and also played for him for 2 years in high school. He was a very strong mentor of mine. I also worked under Coach TJ Maynard for 4 seasons, and college coach Dean Paul has been influential in my career. And all-time Raceland wins leader Coach Bill Tom Ross was my first high school coach and helped me fall in love with the game of football!

What are your thoughts on playing out-of-state teams, and will you be playing any once you have openings in your schedule?

We have typically played for out-of-state teams due to our location and difficulty finding games. We currently do not have any of our state teams on our schedule, but that could change at any time.

What are your thoughts about students playing multiple sports?

Raceland is a high school with 300 kids, so the ballpark has 150 males. The sports program here cannot excel without kids playing multiple sports. In school history, our best athletes have always played multiple sports in an effort to field as many competitive sports teams as possible.

How important is it to you that all of the lower levels throughout the program play a full schedule?

This is a major point of emphasis for us, from JV to middle school to our youth league. We try to make sure all teams play a weekly game to follow along with the schedule of high school football. It is also very important to make sure all those players have adequate practice time to address the things learned during competition in games.

What are your biggest concerns heading into the 2024 season?

2024 brings new challenges for us, just like any new season does. We have had really good senior classes the past few seasons, but the standard doesn’t change. Our players know what is expected and really work hard to excel on the playing field. This team will really grow as they gain more and more game-time experience. We lack experience and will most definitely be a work in progress in hopes of playing our best football come playoff time.

What are you going to miss the most from the 2024 class?

The class of 2024 left a legacy at Raceland that has no match up to now. Those guys really were selfless team-first players who gave great effort every time they stepped on the field. The one thing that we will try to duplicate from this class is their business-like approach to the process. They had lots of actions and few words!

Could you name some of the best players that you have coached?

Raceland has been blessed with many good players over the years! Naming them would undoubtedly mean someone would be missed, and we don’t want that. It’s all about the team, and players have excelled individually through our team's accomplishments.

When you are in a blowout-type game, when do you pull the starters?

We usually try to pull starters and/or rotation guys when the clock begins to run nonstop. This is by a margin of 36 points in the state of Kentucky.

As the head coach, what do you do to help your players get recruited?

Recruiting is one thing that is always evolving in today’s game. Our biggest resource is our one-stop shop for all player information through our website, www.racelandfootball.com. This houses all important information for our potential college players, such as contact information, grades, camps, highlights, etc. Also, we encourage all of our kids to attend multiple camps over the course of the course of multiple years of their careers to gain exposure. The one thing that we are completely confident in is our ability to be accessible and in constant contact with college coaches to get our kids in the best possible situation as they enter the next phase of their career.

  3. Name:Hayden Webster

    School:Fairview High School

    Positions played:OL,DL

    Graduating year:2026

    Height and weight: 6'0, 250lbs

How long have you played football, along with the reasons you continue to play?

I’ve played football almost my whole life. I continue to play because it’s something I enjoy, and I love the team.

What do you believe is the strongest part of your game?

I think that my football IQ is what makes me a good player. I think that’s what separates me from other players.

What are you doing during the off-season to improve your game?

We’ve all been hitting the weight room hard, but I think the biggest thing for me is getting into the shape I need to be in for football season.

What is the toughest part of being a lineman?

I definitely feel like the whole offense or even defense depends on you. If you can’t block for your guys, they aren’t going to be able to make any plays.

Which side of the line is the hardest for you to prepare for? Explain

I would say the defensive line is definitely harder for me to prepare for.

Which game are you looking forward to the most this season?

    Without a doubt, play Raceland.

Focusing on the road games that you have played in, which stadium has had the best overall atmosphere, along with the reasons why it was so good?

Probably Leslie County my freshman year. They had the best student section I’ve ever seen, and you could tell their community was involved.

What will Fairview have to accomplish before the season starts to make them better and have a winning season?

We have the talent that we need to be a good football team. We just need a change of culture, and that’s what Coach Roy and ourselves are doing right now: changing the culture. We don’t feel like we’re going to be a 2-9 team anymore; that’s not what we expect. We know we can beat every team on our schedule, and that’s what we plan on doing.

What is the toughest part of practice?

100% conditioning. Coach is definitely getting us in shape this year.

What have you accomplished this offseason to help you become a better player?

I feel like my attitude has improved.

With so many college coaches looking at Hudl, how often do you update your page?

Well, with me not playing last year, it’s definitely been rough putting myself out there, as far as Hudl goes. But once I get some more film, I will update it every week.

What made you come out for the team this season, after taking off last season?

I really missed it after not playing last year. I also feel like Coach Roy and the team have the ability to do something special this year, and I want to be a part of it.

With so many schools facing low numbers, what do you do to try and get your classmates to come out for the team?

I tell them to give it a shot, and put in some effort, and I think they’ll like it.

Outside of sports, what do you do for fun?

I like to spend time with my family and friends and work.

    What is your go-to snack?

    Pop tarts.

What is your favorite video game system?

    Playstation 5.

  4. Kaden Sparks

    Fairview High School

    OL/DL

    25’

    5’9” 270

What will you miss the most from the 2024 class?

I will miss my friends from the 24’ class the most. I was very close with them. Bubba and JC were my best friends.

What was the highlight of the 2023 season?

The highlight of the 23’ season would be beating Green Ohio while their lights turned off on us.

Who is the toughest teammate to square up against in practice?

Definitely Hayden Webster and Wyatt Bowen. These kids are upcoming juniors, and they work harder than most kids I know. They give me a run for my money.

What is the best part of being a student-athlete at Fairview High School?

friendships that are created throughout school and sports. These friendships that I’ve made throughout school will stay with me for my whole life.

What is the toughest part of being a high school student-athlete?

Maintaining my strength and conditioning throughout school and summer.

As an athlete, in any sport, what has been your biggest moment?

Having a breakout game against Green Ohio. We desperately needed a win, and we were down crucial personnel. I had to step up for my team and do what they demanded of me.

As an athlete, in any sport, what has been your most embarrassing moment?

In my freshman year of football, I told the other team the play.

What type of weather do you enjoy playing in the most?

I enjoy playing on cool fall nights. I don’t burn up as much.

Turf or grass, which do you prefer to play on?

Personally, I would rather play on well-maintained grass. You don’t get turf pellets all over yourself.

What must you improve on the most to become a better player?

Staying in shape is a must for me. We have been working very hard to be in the best shape of our lives.

    What is your game-day routine?

On game days, I drink as much water as I can. I don’t want to cramp. Then I watch a film in between classes. When school let's out, I get a light snack and then go to the locker room and get taped.

Have you heard from any colleges? If you have, could you name one or two?

Yes, I think Morehead is interested. I go to camp next weekend for them.

Outside of sports, what do you do for fun?

I spend time with my friends and family, play video games, and fish.

    What is your go-to snack?

    Purple Doritos

Have you watched any of the UFL games?

Yes, I watch them at work sometimes.

Here is a link to the pics the player sent. One of them is pretty cool.
