If you go to a class system it will destroy many rivalries around the state. It wouldn't mean as much when cross town rivals such as PCC & Hazard play. Also, Hazard won the All A state in 2004 but ,although exciting, it didn't mean as much to the community as going to the sweet sixteen in 2006.
-
Justin Hicks continues to be the best guard in the region. He faces a box and chaser or triangle and 2 almost every game. Matt Williams is a good compliment to Hicks because he is a slasher to the basket and an overall good athlete. That being said, I am impressed with Stepp and Cox at JBS. Unfortunately for them they only get to play with one ball during the game.
-
So they won't be playing?
I don't think so.
-
Cameron Bailey Of Hazard will sign soon with Rollins College in Winter Park Florida. He will play for one of the top ten D-2 golf colleges in the U.S.
-
All of the sophmores will be on a school trip Saturday. This includes Michael Campbell, Justin Jones and Josh Kidd.
-
Hazard won round 1. Hicks continues to prove why he is the best player in the region. Great win for Coach Morris and the boys.
-
The best cross town rivalry in the state. What is your prediction?
-
Good win for Hazard. Anytime you can go to Breathitt and win, it's a good win.
-
This should be a good game. Any predictions?
-
The starters didn't even play half of the game. Six players with 10 or more points for Hazard. Poor Wolfe, looks like a long season for them.

if JBS and their three D-1 prospects cant win this region then something is wrong. I doubt any team ever in the 14th region has had three D-1 prospects on the team at one time or I even wonder if there is a 14th region school that has ever produced 3 D-1 players in school history except Hazard. Are we talking about the best team of all time in the region? If this is the case at JBS then they shouldnt lose a game this year and walk out of the region.
This is going way back but in 1953 Hazard had 3 D-1 players; Roscoe Shackleford went to University of Louisville, John Evans Bowling and John Quillen went to Virginia Tech.
-
I can think of three that I would consider to be better all-around players; Clark Stepp -June Buchanan:Tyler Bailey-PCC:Brandenburg-Lee Co .Hicks is a very good player but not the best.You have to look at all aspects of the game.Ball handling,rebounding,assists,defense,as well as shooting;etc;etc;
Point well taken. I still like Hicks.

 He is a good player but not the best in the region!!!
Then if he isn't then who is? I have never coached one that has more talent that is more coachable. He is a coach on the floor.

Didn't Pulaski win the final in the last 15 seconds or so? Couldn't have been that anti-climactic, although I'm sure the Hazard fans were still ticked.
You're right. But I was so upset by the PRPv. Hazard game that I really didn"t care except that Reggie Hanson was going to Kentucky. I have actually heard Dave Fraley say that he was glad that he played PRP in the finals because he didn't feel that they would have beaten Hazard.
-
The 1986 final four with Pulaski Co. v.Owensboro in the first game and Pleasure Ridge Park v. Hazard in the second. Both games went down to the wire. The finals were anti-climatic.

Justin Hicks has an excellent shot at playing college basketball. He is a heady player that has excellent grades. Under the right circumstances he could play big time college ball.

I like Knott Centrals gym for the seating, it doesn't have the pull out bleachers but, you have so many steps to climb. PCC is just not as nice , but easier to get to the seats. It all started at KCC. Was played there for years. I think it is alright to change from one to the other as it makes the traveling better for teams at least every other year. I think they do know who is playing.
The lighting at John C. Combs Arena is terrible. But, the parking is better than at KCC.

Justin Hicks is the best player in the region. Everybody uses gimic defenses to try and stop him and he still drops 20 on most.
-
Good job on summing it up,:thumb: I see it about the same way. June B. is most taleted and has the best potential to work with. Hazard is prolly the team that may not be in the running just due to coach changes and player changes from what I hear( but I wouldnt count them out). Besides these teams I dont see much others coming out but maybe a Powell, Owsley or Knott Co. These 3 teams always compete and pull out upsets here and there.
Don't count Hazard out. All of the players are back and Lewis Morris will do a fine job as their coach.

For the Hazard Bulldogs it would be:
Carl Wallace point guard 1986
John Hagans 2 Guard 1972
Jim Rose 3 Guard 1966
Dickie Alexander Power Forward 1980
Chester Rose Center 1965
-
Clark Stepp
Tate Cox
Garrison Collins
Justin Hicks
Cambell from Hazard
Who plays point guard for this team and do you think that they have enough basketballs for Stepp, Cox and Hicks?
-
In my opinion, there are two problems with the coaching carousel that are not the coaches fault. The first is that in some high schools, especially those with a deep tradition, people will never be satisfied unless the coach produces teams that win at least 25 games per year, are always a state contender and , and this is key, play the right people while doing this year after year. The coach is put under such tremendous pressure to do all this that sometimes they leave just to get away from it. The second problem is that 25 years ago students and parents were loyal to a school and a community. They might not agree with the coach but the only options they had were to quit the team or stick it out. Today if the student and the parents disagree with the coach they either try to get the coach fired or transfer to a neighboring school. It has become absurd.

Michael Campbell of Hazard. He's a 6'4'' sophmore who plays hard all the time.
His Eddie Ford coaches loved him this past summer.
Predictions on Shelby Valley v. Hazard in first round of the WYMT
in KY Boys Basketball (High School)

Shelby Valley has a very high ranking. Can Hazard play with them?
