Perry Central in a blowout!
-
The only team in the 14th that can beat Hazard is themselves. I don't think that Coach Holland will let that happen.
-
Bill Ed is correct. Hazard plays Cordia on Wednesday. I don't know the tmes.
-
Congratulations to Coach Spurlock and his team. Good Luck in the 13th!
-
Will someone give Justin Jones a little love.
-
Niether team shot the ball very well. That always makes the game look like a bad game.
-
Perfect example of why they are five players instead of two. 1000 assist? Second quarter, fast break, Stepp has the ball, TEAM MATE ahead of him OPEN, what does he do? Looks at him proceeds to the basket and turned it over. Guess that was assist 1001.....
Someone needs to explain to the JBS stat man that a missed shot that is rebounded and put back in doesn't count as an assist.

Al's boys won't overlook Buckhorn or PCC. He won't let that happen. These kids are experienced and tournament tested. They'll play their best ball come tourney time.
-
Knott Central in a close one.
-
Not close. Leslie has struggled all year. Perry is coming on. I think Perry is now the favorite to win the 54th and 14th region.
I agree that PCC will beat Leslie as bad as they want but Perry is not the favorite to win the 14th or the 54th. They would have to put together several incredible performances to do that and I just don't think that they have the talent to do that.

I don't think Hazard has played well since the fourth quarter against Rose Hill. But they are still winning and winning big. I just don't think we've seen Hazard's best yet.
-
Dont get to ahead of yourself there Master, after the WYMT tournament a lot of people thought JBS was unbeatable in that region and that Hazard had to play really well in that championship game just to make it close. Hazard has improved a lot with the addition of Warren and clearly look like the best team, but I wouldnt starting counting chickens just yet! This post of yours is no doubt the kind of stuff that would make for excellet bulletin board material for a team like JBS!!
It really doesn't matter what we say on these posts about whose going to win the region or not. Big Al's too smart to let his team think they have a cake walk. I also doubt seriously that coaches at JBS or anywhere else in the region care about our opinion. So, let them blow it up and put it on the bulletin board. It really doesn't matter.

Nice summary Q-Man.
I agree these are the top 4 teams in the region. However, I could see Knott and/or Cordia knocking out JBS, Letcher or both. I am not sure Knott or Cordia could string together 3 games to win the region but for one night they have proven they can play with and in some cases beat the top teams in the region. That is one tough district and any way it plays out 2 of the top six teams in the region will be eliminated in that district tournament.
I agree that Knott or Cordia could beat JBS and/or Letcher just as Buckhorn could knock off Hazard but I think that these are the only 4 teams that have a legitimate chance to win it all.

I have seen most of the better teams in the 14th Region this year and I think that either June Buchanan or Hazard should win the Region with Letcher Central and Perry Central having an outside chance. Here are my reasons:
- June Buchanan
June Buchanan has all of the tools to repeat as champs. If you'll remember, they went through a similar drought last year right before tourney time. The big weakness that they have is that they don't play very good man defense and if they get down in a game they may have a difficult time coming back because of this.
- Hazard
Hazard also has all of the tools. They can compete at the state level with their interior players. Their biggest weakness may be ballhandling. Whitaker is pretty much having to play 32 minutes every game and no one else seems to want the ball at crunch time.
- Letcher Central
Letcher Central is big inside and play with a lot of heart. Their big weakness is lack of tournament experience. This is a must at tournament time.
- Perry Central
Perry Central is a team that I had written off a month ago but they seemed to pull it together and are playing good basketball now. Plus, the district and regional tournament are on their home flor where they have only lost once.
- June Buchanan

If this were based on traditionally strong programs who over the years have competed in the sweet sixteen then Ashland, Owensboro, Clay County, Hazard and Henry Clay would have to be on the list.
-
Justin Jones & Michael Campbell of Hazard

You going to the game Qman?
I would love to be there but I have a prior commitment. I"ll watch the tube!
-
Good game by both teams. UH has 2 D-1 players and in the end that was the difference. Hazard held their own in the paint and fought back hard. Just too much athleticism at the end of the game for Hazard to handle.
-
Hazard had trouble with Rose Hill's press and UHA is much quicker. The Bulldogs need to attack the press better today if they expect to win their second All A title.
-
I want to point out that Hazard's principal Happy Mobelini got up from his seat and got the fans excited and into the game even when the players were struggling. this helped pick them up. It made a difference. Fan support and community support is big at Hazard. I was very impressed with Euton and Jackson. There for a while I didn't think Euton was going to miss. But with that said with 2:17 remaining in the third quarter with the score 43-28 Hazard went on a 35-11 run to end the game. Momentum is everything in High School Basketball.
-
Add Justin Jones to the list for Hazard. Also, Freeman Robertson's dunk against owlsley Co. in the 2003 All A tournament was nasty. One dribble from the top of the key with emn on him.
-
I am trying to think of the kids name that played for Clay with Farmer in the late 80's. He was one the best dunkers in Kentucky High School History at 6'0.
Russ Chadwell
-
Obviously Tate Cox makes a difference in any game. I think that he is the best player JBS has. But, JBS couldn't have asked for anymore than what his replacement #23 did during the game. Good win for hazard. Let's leave it at that.
-
This game was never close. Hazard did nothing spectacular. They just ran their offense and got wide open looks all night. They beat PCC in every aspect of the game. Al didn't try to beat them bad or run up the score. Hazard only scored 68 points.
