Tate Cox - Knott Central
Corey Martin - Hazard

As a former High School coach, I believe that it is imperative that you schedule strong opponents. The main reason is that its too hard to motivate your kids to play a cupcake. Plus you learn more from playing and competing against good competion than beating up on weaker opponents.
-
I don't see what Perry would gain by playing them. I would want to play them at full strength. Obviously the scheduling needs to be revisited.
-
If you're right this would put Kevin Spurlock's Tigers against Al Holland's Bulldogs in the finals. That would be interesting.
-
Should be two really good games Friday night.
Clay Co. v. Perry Central
Knott Central v. Hazard
Predictions anyone?

I agree. I can't imagine a more intense rivalry. They would fill a gym for a chess match between the Commodores and the Bulldogs.Hazard and Perry County Central has become too much of a rivalry, to the point that they're not even going to schedule one another starting next year. A rivalry is a good thing I think, but Hazard-PCC has too much tension in my opinion. Everyone in that area needs to calm down just a little. If there's a more intense, bigger rivalry in the state than these two, then I don't want to be at the game, lol. Tape it for me and I'll watch it later.

Corey Martin of Hazard is an excellent 3 point shooter. He proved that in Rupp Arena at the Big Show.
-
Hazard not only has everyone back but they have Eric Back (another ballhandler) also which they need.
-
All I know is that several former JBS players are playing for Knott Central's AAU team at this time.
-
Once again politics get involved in high schools sports.
-
How about Hazard in 1986? The year they got robbed versus PRP.
I agree.
-
Hazard should be top ten if not Top five next year. But, who knows how Cantrell rates them. He sure missed Shelby County.
-
Denny Fugate who led MC Napier to the final four in the 80"s is an assistant for Perry Co. Central.

I love Big Al but he inherited a pretty nice team and it's pretty easy to coach good high school talent. I like what was done at Cordia and what Hatcher has done as a coach against some pretty big odds and shoes to fill.
Sometimes it is much harder to coach talent. Expectations are higher, everyone wants to be the star, and team chemistry can be hard to establish. Plus, at Hazard, the people in the stands know their basketball. Tough situation to coach in. Seven coaches since McKamey left in 1989.

In most regions the team that has a solid half court offense, plays pressure defense and hits their free throws usually wins. You're right the run and gun teams get very frustrated in a half court set.
-
The Defenders are on a mission.

I don't know if the shot should have counted or not, but it sure to a lot of guts by the officials to wave it off.

This thread is crazy. How can we think about comparing Clark to Chris Lofton, who won a state tournament, or Cameron Mills, who took Dunbar to the final four? Clark went to one sweet sixteen and lost in the first round. With that said, good luck Clark, when Billy G. gets hold of you, you're going to need it.

I hate this for Coach Martin, but good season Allen Central. I hope Johnny comes back. One of the smartest and most colorful coaches I ever known.

Potential upset but the stars would have to align perfectly. Hazard by 6 or 7 in a scrappy ugly game.
There is always a potential upset. But not Monday night at 7:00. Hazard by a few. Its according to how long Al wants to play his go to guys.
-
I know that I sound like Clark Kellog but the game was a game of spurts where hazard had several 9 or 10 point runs in which Cordia didn't score. Cordia's defense wasn't strong enough to combat that. Plus as mentioned earlier, Hazard played at least ten players whereas Cordia plyed five or six. Good luck Bulldogs.
-
I wouldn't say that. Any team can be beat on any given night, especially in Kentucky basketball. Hollon has been upset before eventhough this team is experienced. Don't over look anyone and remember thats why we play the game.
I'll agree with you and say Hazard will win this one but Cordia is the best team in the bracket to match up with Hazard, imo. Should be a good game.
All I mean is that if Hazard plays their best ball and Cordia plays their best ball then Hazard wins. They have too much talent.

Hazard won the Defender of the Station tournament in 2004 which had Scott Co, Pleasure Ridge Park and most of the 11th region schools in it. They got a small third page write up in the Lex. Herald Sports Section. You win the Sweet Sixteen, and your splashed all over the sports section of every newspaper in the state. The Sweet Sixteen is what you paly for all year long.

I would start with Kevin Spurlock of Clay Co.. He's a proven winner.
Al Holland of Hazard knows the way to Rupp Arena. Or Allan Hatcher of Perry Central who also knows the way from anywhere.
