You're right but I am hearing rumors and I just wanted some conformation. Coaches leaving one job could effect coaching hires other places.
-
I'm hearing rumors about coaching changes in the 13th, 14th and 15th Regions. Anyone know anything yet?

Lafayette 79
Tony Wilson Western
Dirk Minnifield U K
Junior Johnson Cincinnatti
Curt Rose Transy
-
1975 Male (Griffith & Turner)
1977 Ballard (Lamp, Raker & Eaves)
1979 Lafayette (Minnefield, Johnson)
1986 Hazard (Wallace, North & Combs)
1987-1988 Clay Co. (Farmer & Chadwell)
1992 UHA (Allaway & Cline)
1993 Dunbar (Burton & Mills)
There are others. But I think that I followed these teams the closest.
-
Tate Cox from Knott Central and Josh Whitaker from Hazard have to be mentioned.
-
Its according to which Hazard team shows up. I have heard that Polson is a heck of a player but if Whitaker and Jones show up for the Bulldogs, they will be hard to beat.
-
However Whitaker plays is how well Hazard plays.
-
This makes the Bulldogs 3rd trip to Rupp in the last 4 years.

I thought that this might be a trap game for Hazard. Lee is very athletic. They had emotion on their side and they brought a lot of fan support. Hazard had several players with a stomach virus and didn't look to emotionally fired up for the game. But Lee loooked like they gave up in the second quarter. Hazard played as well as they had to to win. Has this been Lee's rap all season? I thought that they looked much more capable than what they showed.

IMO this will hurt Mountain Basketball. This is one of the best rivals and taking it away with the addition of all the shift in districts are hurting rivalries. Most big rivalries bring big crowds and media attention because it seems to mean just a little more than just a seasonal game. I also understand that kids sometimes get out of hand but nothing that didn't happen years in the past.
It's not the kids. It's the adults.

I was talking to some people from the 56th district the other day and they said the drive to Whitesburg last year was also "brutal", especially those poor folks in Estill and Powell County. Glad to see the 56th catch a break every 6 years.
I'm not saying that Powell County shouldn't have the opportunity to host the region if they have the proper facility. I'm just saying that it is a long drive. As it is for the 56th to drive to Letcher. I don't know the answer. I'm just stating a fact.
-
The two biggest upsets in the 54th that I can recall were:
1990 Leslie Co. over Hazard in OT. Hazard had beaten them tree times in double figures that year.
1993 Hazard over Dilce Combs. Dilce had won the All "A" State Tournament that year and had defeated Hazard rather easily in their previous two meetings.
-
No real surprises here. The draw will be interesting. The drive to Powell County will be brutal for the 53rd and 54th.

This could have been a good game but Hazard showed up and played excellent. Six players in with ten or more points shows me that it was a total team effort. Can't wait until Friday when the Bulldogs take on Perry Central for the Disrict Championship.
-
How about Barren Co. over Glasgow this year.
-
What are some of the biggest upsets in District Tournament play?
-
Great Stuff.
-
Much more pressure on a coach expected to win. This is especially true for a new coach at a school with deep tradition and much talent.
-
I will say the loser between Hazard and Perry Central in the District Final will win the Regional.
The loser of the District will have a better chance of facing Knott Co. than the winner. But, you never know with a draw. Plus, Hazard has to get past Buckhorn first and they are playing pretty well right now.

The Stamper kid seems to have turned it up a notch of late, was all Cox in the early season. What grade is he in,height, etc.? Also, is the Amburgey kid a transfer from JBS, seemed to have heard that last name from another school? Thanks.
Cox and Stamper are both very good players. Cox is a junior and I think that stamper is too but I'm not sure. Hazard's guards held their on last night against them. I don't know much about the Amburgey kid.

Knott Central, and Perry Central have the largest gym. Letcher Central has the newest and has a pretty good atmosphere but I personally like Hazard's gym for a true High School Gym and also Breathitt Co. Of course I like tradition and Breathitt and hazard's gyms have a ton of it.
-
I was at the game and it was a dandy. Hazard began in a zone defense but quickly went man after Stamper hit three 3's that weren't challenged. Hazard missed a ton of free throws toward the end. Hazard changed there starting line-up and started Kidd in place of Martin. They basically used six players throughout the game. Kidd did a good job on Tate Cox and Martin stepped up big off the bench. There were no losers tonight.

It looks like the 14th region is a three team race with Knott Central, Perry Central and Hazard. It will be played at Powell County which is a long drive for any of these teams.

The following were inducted into the Hazard basketball Hall of Fame that night:
Ernest Sparkman
Johnny Beeler
Mike Sammons
Gay Greer
Freddy Hogg
Mack Baker
Mountain Coaching Changes?

I heard about Knox but I hadn't heard anything about Clay or Bell. I know both Spurlock and Morris personally and couldn't imagine their schools wanting to make a change.
