  1. In Bullitt East's last game, it lost to PRP. In PRP's last game, it lost to 5th Region champ Bardstown. Bardstown also beat E'town worse than Bullitt East did. The 5th Region boys have went to the state quarterfinals 3 straight years. They also have one of the best players in the state the next 2 years (Goodin of Taylor County). I don't think the 5th would be a cakewalk like some people think it would be for Bullitt East.
  2. Dark Horse78, I like keeping teams close for district play instead of forcing teams to travel (and their opponents to host teams they and their fans have no ties to whatsoever) instead of having the 8x4 just so the numbers work out nicely. Of course, I'm in favor of going back to four classes, when: - Qualifying for the playoffs meant something (instead of being a given most years) - District rivals were fairly close to home As far as Ohio County, unsure of their motive. Travel won't be great -- it's not like McCracken is right down the street -- and now you're opposite a district (Meade and Central Hardin) who are both coming off their best seasons ever. Meade's always strong. Central Hardin has been trending upward for the past few seasons. And it's hard to think North Hardin will stay down for long. As far as that Meade-to-Nelson trek? It's a lot easier now. That Joe Prather connection helped a bunch. As will the Radcliff-To-Etown connector. IIRC, some travel people said Brandenburg-Bardstown will be cut down from a little over an hour to just 45 minutes once all construction is complete.
  3. Heard about the new Lexington/Fayette school. Lexington would still have two districts, so not too much change. I don't get Scott County. Why split? It's not like Hardin County, where you have different population bases (Elizabethtown for EHS and CHHS and some JHHS, Radcliff for JHHS/NHHS, Rineyville, Vine Grove, Cecilia, Upton, Sonora, Glendale). Some folks in southern Hardin County (southern E'town, Cecilia, Glendale, Upton, Sonora) wanted to build a South Hardin High School. Hardin County Schools balked because it would take away from Central Hardin, which is built to hold more than 1,800 (and isn't near and won't be near 1,800 any time soon). Scott County needs to take a page out of Washington County's book. Instead of splitting, just build a brand-new mega school which can house future growth. South Warren decimated Greenwood (except for softball). Collins did the same to Shelby County. Thomas Nelson did the same to Nelson (in boys' hoops and bowling). If you're going to build a school, why not just build a bigger one if you can afford it? I really don't see why school systems don't think like churches or hospitals.
  4. You could sub Muhlenberg for Ohio and you get the same deal. Central time zone teams. More than hour away. More than likely will get thumped by MC and CH (and NH in most years). Ohio-Meade, Ohio-Central Hardin, Ohio-North Hardin (or Muhlenberg vs. MC-CH-NH) won't draw flies for any of the programs. Doable drives? Sure. But when it is 15 miles from CH-NH, 30 from NH-MC, and 45 from CH-MC (acually faster with Joe Prather extension and soon to shorten even more with Etown-To-Radcliff connector opening completely this year), the travel times between the CH-MC-NH triangle (formerly a quad with John Hardin before it shrunk and formerly with nearby Nelson before it split) are already great. Let's not throw in an outlier just for the sake of it.
  5. sportsfan08, The 8-district/4-team setup was tried when 6-A first launched. In the INITIAL alignment, Lexington Tates Creek was put with the Hardins because there were four WKY teams and 16 Louisville teams. Someone had to join the Hardins, so Tates Creek was forced out of LEX. Tates Creek didn't want it and the Hardins didn't want it. Thus, they stayed and the Hardins were left with three teams. Just because Ohio CHOSE to play 6-A doesn't mean CH-MC-NH should be forced to travel over there or OC should be forced to travel to Hardin-Meade County twice a season (and once the following year). Ohio has nothing in common with CH-MC-NH. Let them stay in the west.
  6. 1-A is a little screwy because of Fort Knox and South Floyd. Fort Knox is still 2-A enrollment FOR NOW, but will not be when new alignment takes effect. Knox is losing THOUSANDS of soldiers by July. Even the Hardin schools will be hurt by this (for people who live in E'town, Radcliff and Vine Grove but work at Knox). 1-A is also affected by South Floyd, which will be consolidating soon. However, they still need a place to play before they go bye-bye. Shocked to see Berea in the west. Especially since it is 80 miles east of Louisville Holy Cross. As far as the rotating playoffs in 6-A, it will be changing. For example, the Central Hardin-Meade district has the Scott County district in the playoffs for 14. 15 is WKY. 16 is WKY. 17 is WKY. The other ones will rotate because of the "fifth team." The KHSAA doesn't want the fifth team to be forced to travel forever (Boone going to WKY for a first-round game), but it also doesn't want a district rematch in the first round of the playoffs every year (which would be possibilities if you did NOT rotate). Thus, the KHSAA came up with its solution, trying to take the best of both worlds. I know it is easy to jump on the KHSAA, but this solution makes sense when you dive deeper into "why" it looks the way it does.
  7. I've heard discussion is next school season (14-15) with new alignment to take affect in 15-16, which would mean 10 seasons with current alignment, IIRC. Rumblings I've heard: 1) Meade County from the 3rd Region back to the 5th. Has been associated with 5th way way way longer than it has been in 3rd. In football district with Central Hardin and North Hardin, which are 5th Region schools. In golf/tennis/wrestling/bowling region with the normal 5th Region schools. Plus, Meade is the ONLY eastern time zone team in the central time zone 3rd region. 2) Some of the central time zone teams in the 5th (namely Hart and Caverna) could end up in the southern 3rd Region. 3) Hearing Green and Adair to a southern region (4th? OR with the Pulaskis in another region)? 4) The current 18th District will be completely blown up and the four schools will end up in 3 different regions. 5) All three Bullitts leaving Louisville and joining the 5th Region. Taking the 18th District (which will be vacant) and will be joined by Meade or Fort Knox. 6) Nelson County gets a district by itself. So long Washington. 7) Washington (kicked out of the 19th) and LaRue (18th goes by by) join Marion, Taylor and Campbellsville in the 20th. Although LaRue and Washington are not currently with Taylor-Marion-Cville, they already play each other in most sports anyway. Schools roughly the same size. And keeps LaRue from being forced to play the much-larger Hardin schools. 8) 17th District (Central Hardin, Elizabethtown, Fort Knox, John Hardin, North Hardin) could lose Fort Knox to a new district with the Bullitts. Could re-gain Meade or if Meade goes with the Bullitts, LaRue could join (LaRue borders Hardin, about 15 miles from Central Hardin and Elizabethtown).
