  1. Lots and lots of things to improve on for sure.

But also a lot of positives. One time in the second half, there were seven sophomores on defense. Heck, they had five turnovers (pick six and QB fumble that gave Carmel a short field and fumble on opening kickoff of second half) that helped Carmel get 21 points.

Don't get me wrong Carmel is very good and QB was so solid and so smart! He's committed to Colgate but losing by 11 to them with 5 turnovers is not all that bad.

Yes, tough each week. But these young kids will grow up. Too bad they have a really good QB and maybe best defensive player out for what sounds like the long haul.

If you can’t park in lot, park in the surrounding streets to the WEST of Frederica Street ( the side the stadium is on) and walk.  There is entrance on Ford avenue as well for St X fans SW corner.

Old Hickory is a great bbq place on 25th about 1/2 mile from stadium.  Big Dipper is great drive thru burger place out on West Parrish, and right by moonlite bbq.  If you want buffet, moonlite, if you want a great pork (Boston butt) sandwich or mutton (lamb) - without a doubt old hickory.

Oh, you just made me hungry!

Big Dipper is a great local spot; love it there.

  3. Just my early thoughts.

Male is loaded and will be tough to beat for sure.

I think because of Mekhi Smith on offense and those young guys on defense that St. X will be right there. But the offense just doesn't have enough firepower for Male IMO.

I like you Guru will not count Trinity out but they have to overcome losing a lot.

It's miles to anyone else - and that includes Manual.

  4. Always love watching a few games in June.

I know Male plays at New Albany tomorrow night and back over there on Thursday night.

Plus, I know Collins High School is having a big event at the end of the month.

Anybody else know of any games in the Louisville area let me know?

By the way, Male vs. New Albany on June 1 is pretty good start to the month.

What do we know about John Curtis (LA)?

They were 6-5 this season with a young offense. The QB is not very big but he's elusive. Buddy Taylor - he accounted for a good portion of their offense as a junior.

A couple of other good offensive weapons back.

But defense they lost nine of their 10 top tacklers. Still this is a bunch that always is solid and will have a very good team. Should be fun!

  6. I am a huge Sam Adams fans.

Yes, both the brand of beer and the football coach. He's a young guy with an offensive mind and he's been a head coach. Team went 9-2 this season and put up some points.

With that said, I would think from what I have heard the only guys on this list with a shot are: Eviston, Cobb and (perhaps just a little) Adams.

  7. This will be interesting.

There will be plenty of applications and they will for sure have their 'pick' of some good coaches. Will be very hard to replace Beatty.

Not sure these guys would be the guy but a couple of names - Trinity guys - that struck me:

Jay Cobb - Current Trinity DC and I know from my buddy (kid is a junior) that the kids love coach Cobb and the others on the current staff

Will Stein - Former Trinity and U of L QB and current QB coach at UTSA.

Andrew Coverdale - he's at Cincy St. X now and was at Trinity a long time

Sam Adams - former Trinity OC now a head coach in Alabama

And I know it's a long shot but too bad there's not a Brohm to take over. I doubt Brian would want to do it at this point of his career.

  8. Wow! Sad day in St. Matthews but what a greaT career and legacy he leaves.

I know that many didn't always like or agree with him - even parents and Trinity fans - but no one can say he didn't get the best out of his kids/teams.

Just heard a piece on WLKY (It's on Twitter but I couldn't get it to post) that said an opposing coach once said he was so good that he could "win with his kids and win with my kids." And from being around, watching them each year I tend to agree.

He did it with commitment, hard work and quiet honestly an attitude where he didn't matter what anyone else said. He put his head down and worked.

    Amazing career.

I would have to say Shaun Alexander is the greatest of all time to earn the title of Mr Football in Ky.

I know we aren’t talking about this category but my gosh, Alabama great and NFL great to boot.

    Who else am I missing?

Mayer could be the next Nky great to star at a top 5 college program and move on to an NFL career.

I just find it so mind boggling to comprehend how hard it is to excel at both the Big college programs and then the NFL.

Crazy to think that Mayer (who I believe will get drafted at some point) or Wan'Dale Robinson could end a 15/16-year drought where Kentucky Mr. Football did not get drafted after college.

Crazy to think Brian Brohm was the last Mr. Football drafted.
