  1. Will be interesting to see what FD will do as they return to 6A.

I think Trinity will get the nod of being preseason #1 because they will have the best defense returning. I think similar to last year, they're success will be determined by how their offense performs. What changes will they make, and can they improve in the red zone will be key points to look for early on.

Male and Manual will be teams to watch. Male struggled without Swinney last season so it will be something to watch who can replace him and can their QB be effective in the passing game.

For the Tigers, they will have to lean on their offense early on has they replace a bunch of starters on the defensive side of the ball. I know the players and coaching staff had a very sour taste in their mouths after the season ended prematurely for them. I would be willing to be their off-season is very intense to ensure they find a way to get back to playing at Kroger Field. While their defense will have to replace a number of starters, Coach Bruner and his staff do a great job of playing a lot of kids so there will be some experience returning, just not starters. The WR position and QB position is where the Tigers struggled the most last year. Had good players at the WR position just didn't have the big play guy to stretch the defenses vertically. I'd look for Marlon Harbin to be that guy this year after starting as a freshman last season. It all starts upfront and the Tigers are returning 2 OL from last years team, so they'll have to break in another group to get the job done in the trenches.

  2. It seems the last few years they have had success at the freshmen level so we'll see if that success can translate to success at the varsity level. They were very young this year so I'd imagine the season went as expected for the coaching staff if they're being realistic about their expectations. It has been a very stagnate program over the last decade if not more. The next three years will be telling to see exactly where this program is heading because of the young players they have. Will they continue to be a team/program that can stay within 10 points of the Trinity, Male, and Ballard's but not really threaten them or can they take the next step and prove they can be a real threat in the region. As a program they have to find a way to be a winner and not just part of the top region in the state.

Congrats to Holy Cross. It sounds like they have a solid team. As far as St X, it's time to go in another direction. Coach Klein has been there since 2008 and every season seems to be the same.

There seems to be some young talented players in the program, but IF the school decided to take the program in a different direction I wouldn't be surprised. I don't think they will, but I could understand IF a change was made.

If X couldn’t get pass the 2nd round last year, I doubt this year will be much better. The offense was terrible. They had their best QB playing WR. The defense couldn’t win every game for them. Trinity will be the team to beat this year.

Struggled being consistent in the passing game last season; should be improved this year as they return their starting QB and a number of young receivers. OL returns 2 starters from last year, so that will be a work in progress early on. Lost by 1 last season to Male, and controlled the line of scrimmage with a passing game that was pretty non-existent that game. Things happen against quality teams.

Trinity's defense will be very good, but just like X they have some question marks on offense heading into the 2023 season.

With X's big win and T losing to Seneca looks like the catholic schools are trending in opposite directions since their matchup a few weeks ago.

Tigers are very young this year and have played the top teams very tough. X could be a problem for some teams complete come tournament time.

  6. Look forward to seeing him play and develop. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a number of sophomores to be getting some significant time on the varsity level. Also the current group of freshmen might just be a reason Coach Wallace sticks around a few more years in Poplar Level Rd.
