  1. Watched some of the game on the YouTube channel. Seemed a bit sloppy by the Tigers early but as shots started to fall defensive intensity started to pick up, which led to faster paced game and played into the Tigers favor.

Big game this Friday for St. X as DeSales heads to Poplar Level Rd.

  2. Fun, fast paced game. Ballard’s PG was money the first 3 quarters and then cooled down in the 4th. The Tigers kept it close it early but every time they had a chance to take the lead it felt like they would turn it over and Ballard would extend the lead. 4th quarter was fun and the Tigers were able to put consecutive stops together and then convert those stops into points.

I didn’t know what to expect out of Ballard based of their record but they’re better than their record would indicate. They’re not high level Ballard but they’re definitely good enough to put a run together and win the region…pretty much like every 7th region team.

  3. I think there is some added pressure on Poplar Level Rd this season. I think it’s two fold…to prove last year was just an off season after seasons 2021 and 2022 seasons in which it looked like the program was turning the corner talent wise and what the future looks to have in store for rival Trinity.

There are some very talented players on this year’s team and for whatever reason just didn’t show consistently last year. Offensively, there is solid depth at the WR position, the loss of Cam Holloway isn’t ideal but there are some players ready to take those reps. Immanuel Gray is a solid RB, but there isn’t much depth at that position. I would be surprised if Mason Trimble isn’t the starter at the beginning of the year and he is in the mold of Jack Savoring but probably a better passer. The OL is thin so that will be the biggest question mark ending in the spring and summer for the Tigers.

The defense last year was not a typical defense for St. X. A lot of young and inexperienced players last year and it just never seemed to click week to week. The experience last year was at the line of scrimmage but it was undersized experience at the DL position, that should be the opposite this year. They will be bigger at the line of scrimmage. The two starting inside linebackers are returning as they’ll both be juniors. James Burnett may be one of the best athletes in the city and he’s just figuring out what it takes to play football at a high level. The Sam Crum leaves a hole in the secondary that will need to be filled.

I know the talk is about other schools right now, and the way St. X finished their season last year it should be, but don’t expect this group to role over and not fight for their respect. By all accounts it sounds like this offseason is night day compared to this time last year. We’ll see how that translate.

Will they have any answers for their rivals on Shelbyville Rd?

Usually JV games aren’t the best indicator for the future but the St. X/Trinity JV game I think will be a good indicator for this coming year. Both teams had a lot of young players playing and the game went down to the wire.

  5. I’ll go with the Tigers naturally. Tigers want to play fast and they can do that if they are able to defend well. Of Trinity is able to get into their offense and get high percentage shots it will lead to them being able to set up their press. The Tigers need their defense to help lead to their fast paced offense. Should be a fun game with a great environment.

  6. St. X/Trinity matchup will be an interesting matchup, both have very different styles. The winner will be the one who can impose their style on the other. Trinity has played a lot of basketball over the last week, so I would imagine they really want to slow the pace and not let St. X get up and down the court as they should have the fresher legs on Friday night.

Should be a great matchup and a fun atmosphere Friday night at Valley.

  7. I voted for St. X. They play a style this year that could cause some teams some problems in a tournament format. They like to run and have the depth that can put a lot of pressure on teams especially playing multiple games in a short period.

Where they could get in trouble is if they aren't shooting the ball well from the perimeter. They have decent size, but it doesn't seem like they get easy baskets inside running their half court sets. But the bottom half of the bracket will be tough but also fun basketball to watch.
