  1. I don't want to be negative, but I approach every game with a coach's perspective, and "On Paper" 1002 yards in 12 games, with 60% of that yardage going to one WR is not overly impressive, nor an aspect of the game I would emphasize all week in practice...my base pass defense should be adequate against a run first team. In this case I believe the Hounds are well suited to do that.

  2. Its not "air raid" but Russell's offense may be a bit more well rounded than you suspect.

Exactly...my point is they are in fact run first, pass second type of team. The goal of any coach is to take the opposition out of their comfort zone thus one must focus on taking away the run first and take away, in this case Russell's, primary offense. Anytime a team has to go to what they like to do less...i.e. throw the football as opposed to running it they tend to have less success. For instance if a team could force the colts to run the football they would have a greater chance of winning than allowing Peyton Manning to throw for 300 yards in the game.

  3. I went to Huntington the night we played Garrard in the first round and it took me about 3 hours and 15 minutes to get there. I would say it is about 2 hours and 10 minute from Winchester. I'll say this much though, if ya make the trip, watch out for those deer around Ft. Boonesborough. I had one run right out in front of my truck on my way home. We saw about 3 more on the side of the road other than the one I hit. With that said, I'm going to try and fall back asleep so I can go kill me one without messing up my truck in about 4 hours.

I didn't know you hit a deer...did you cut out the backstraps and head on down the road??

I think Corbin has a great chance. A defense has to be extremely well schooled when playing against the wing-t. Corbin will have to play mistake-free defensive football to beat this offense. It relys on misdirection so assignments have to be carried out, but at the same time stunts can throw off the timing of the pulling guards, and the misdirection type plays which will blow up the plays in the backfield...so IF Corbin does not allow busted plays to go for big yardage, and can hold Russell to around 100-125 yards rushing the Houds win. I have no problem playing aggressive run-stopping defense against the Red Devils, they are a running team that can throw some. But the fact remains that they do not have an air-raid offense. Now do you load the box with 8-10 guys...no. You simply fly around to the football, and play Redhound defense.

I like Corbin 24-16...IF the defense shows up...it is their's to lose.

  4. There haven't been a few teams in recent years you felt should have gotten further than they did? My point is that in the three weeks of loading up against softies, Corbin can lose some of their edge they gained while going through the meat-grinder of their non-district schedule.

You are exactly right...weak competition will cause a team to lose their edge. One begins to evaluate his performance against the level of competition instead of the potential. In this years case I think it built confidence, but in some years past it caused teams to play at a somewhat lower level. That will change next year in a big way!!!

  5. Jet Sweeps, misdirection, counters, and any motion can be deadly in high school football. Many high school teams tend to man up, and when they begin to follow the motion man the look out because something will be coming back, and motion tends to confuse many younger players. I take it he is playing a wing or slot type position...I guess I will see Friday...GO HOUNDS!!!!!

  6. I don't understand that...yeah it is a great rivalry (3rd sat. oct.) but my thoughts on the Tide are far from contempt...there is really no reason to hate Bama as I have never been treated as I have been and have seen others at Florida. Also Shula, Stallings, etc. have all been class acts that didn't whine the was Meyer does, nor were as cocky as ole Steve. Off topic...so back to UT vs. ARK. I don't know if Arkansas has faced WR's like UT's since the USC game...it will be interesting.

  7. They broke the law. What other facts are needed?

I agree with you, but if a person is assaulted and reacts they will both likely go to jail. They were underage and drinking which was an added charge. That is why I said I do not know all the facts. Now I also think the punishment was too light as I said in the post earlier.

I really hope UT does not join the "elite" criminoles etc...if they do I may be on the fire fat phill bandwagon that got fired up last year. My dander gets up more for discipline issues than W's/L's.

  8. I think it is funny how everyone gets on Fulmer's case at any turn. The program is much cleaner than Miami/FSU of the 90's and UK during the Mummy era for that matter. The last two years have been rough in the discipline area, but I think that was just a blip on the radar with a class that had some of those tendencies. I am a Vol fan and I think these three should be suspended for the remainder of the season for the simple reason it will show the resolve of the team to maintain discipline on and off the field.

  9. This may be the week Tennesse has another break-out performance IF Ainge is back. Crompton did a good job, but he is not quite there yet. He will be a dandy in the future.

Those three should be suspended for the remainder of the season I don't want to have a program like Florida State in the mid-90's. We really need to clean up our appearence off the field, and this would go a long way in doing that.

  10. I think Corbin has too much for the Cards. IF Cashen minimizes turnovers, and we get at least 100 yards rushing we win big. IF Clint has to carry the whole load and we can not run the ball and maintain some balance it will be very close. I think everything has finally clicked for this young team and they have every chance to make a pretty nice run as long as they maintain their focus.

    Thus.......

    Corbin 41

    Wayne 13

  11. No sense in giving Wayne locker room material...The kid may be a pretty good player, but he isn't/wouldn't make that much difference. As someone said earlier take away the turnovers and Corbin runs away with it. I don't think this time around it will be as close as the first.

  12. Teams that are in a situation like that tend to be a little dirty. These small districts aren't good for anyone...what good does it do a 1 or 2 win team to get in the playoffs and get blown out...it simply burries the confidence if any was left. As a player and coach I notice teams that are on the short end for the season tend to play a little cheaper than they would if fortunes had gone the other way. I can't coment on this game's "incidents" as I was not able to make it.

  13. Crowds were down due to the new format...why would anyone want to see a rematch (back to back weeks in some cases) of a 1 vs. 4 blowout from the previous meeting. This whole playing the same team twice is a joke anyway...unless of course a team from your own district wins out and you meet them in subsequent rounds of the playoffs per the old system.
