I’ve never seen a local team with as much team speed as this Ashland team. It’s very impressive the amount of skilled players they have.

I was told this morning the collarbone is not broken, but that he has a  Grade 3 AC Joint separation, and is out 4-8 weeks.

Ashland rolls in this one to go to 2-0 on the year. 

Sophomore Cam Davis with a 84 yard TD run. Ashland leads 56-13. Ashland is flat out loaded at the RB position. 

Ashland scores on its 1st possession of the 2nd half on a short run by Braxton Jennings. That TD was set up by about a 40 yard reception by Brandon Houston. Houston has 2 TD and about 110 yards receiving tonight.

Ashland Freshman RB Maverick Ashby with a 39 yard TD run to make it 42-13. Ashby earlier scored on about a 30 yard pick 6. I’d like to know the last time an Ashland freshman had an offensive and defensive TD in the same game.

Ashland rebounds from last night’s loss to Bracken County with a 92-70 win over 16th region foe Fleming County. Ashland only led 43-42 at the half. 

Tomcats open the season with an easy win over the small Catholic school from Ironton.

That’s going to be a huge task, but this group of young Cats just keep getting better each week. 

Ashland just keeps on rolling. The improvement this team has made since game 1 has been simply incredible. 

Ashland has named Ryan Bonner as Interim Coach, replacing Jason Mays. Bonner has been an assistant coach for 8 years. Thoughts on him being named interim coach? I’m sure he’ll retain the same assistant coaches. Experienced head coach Troy Lee Thomas should be a big help for Coach Bonner. Will Ashland be seeking a big name coach to fill the job for next year, or wait to see how Bonner does this year? Should be an interesting year for the Tomcats.

Congratulations to the Tomcats on the District Championship. Coach Tackett has done a great job with this very young Tomcat team. 

I felt Ashland was in control of this game most of the night,  but give  Russell credit they hung in there and gave Ashland a huge scare there at the end. That would have been a very tough loss for Ashland. This is the closest I remember this district ever being amongst the 4 teams. If they all played each other twice there’s a good chance they would all split IMO. 

Tomcats improving every week. This is a very young Ashland team. The next couple of years should be exciting times again for the Tomcat program.
