Talked to some family over the holiday and was told Wayne had a meet the team thing the other night and Dumphord made it to the final round in the 3pt contest.  Apparently his outside shot is somewhat improved.  Tries to murder the rim at every dunk opportunity.

Ryder Bell, a freshman, will be a guy coming off the bench and a name to remember.  Very high motor, decent shot and a great competitor.  He's still very thin but not afraid to mix it up.  Played well over the summer.  Dunked in a summer game.  There are a couple other guys off the bench that could contribute but are young.

Phillips, Farmer and Phillips are who they are.  Thought Farmer's footwork and body control had improved quite a bit over last year.

Varsity football has been good for the freshman point guard Edwards.  Looks stronger and shot looks improved.  Hoping for a strong 2nd year at point.

I know you can't tell a lot from these meet the team things but it sounds like Wayne has the pieces they haven't had in a few years.  I still think they are a year or two away though.

It will be fun to see how the region shakes out! As always.

DCA has a really good roster.  I don't think they have ever played in a region tournament.  Not saying it is impossible but it is hard to go from never making the region tourney to winning it.  The level of intensity in the region tournament can't be replicated in the regular season, AAU or any other venue. I think having players that have experience in it really matters unless you are just head and shoulders talent wise above everyone else which they may have that.

Definitely agree with this. Like @LethalPG mentioned, they have the most talent and should be considered favorites. I also think @titan101 is exactly right, they really should have gotten out of district last year but lacked the game sense at that time to take down Botle County, who has the pedigree. The log jam of new bodies will take time to sort out for DCA but at the end of the day, it's a good problem for them to have.

PC had a good JV team last year, and a heralded Freshman class coming in.  Similar to Lincoln with being the biggest school in region, it's easier to reload and not rebuild for those two schools because of sheer numbers.  Somerset has Godby and Whitaker who both avg. 18 per game, and look to elevate even more this year.  Around them, they have 3 other guards that started @ times last season.  The one to keep an eye on is Aedyn Absher.  He started every game as a Freshman last season, and has grown to be around 6'4 giving them good size in the backcourt.

Very true about Pulaski and Lincoln, it's nice to have a large pool to pick from. Love hearing that for Somerset, I've always been a fan of Coach Young.

  4. Boyle County was undervalued all season on every metric I saw. Their offense is next level talented, especially in the 12th region. There will be some questions on their back line going into next season but the offense isn't going anywhere. The 12th is theirs to lose by a mile, even with West being in it; just my opinion.

Congrats to Bethlehem. Shutting down their offense and holding down a clean sheet is very commendable.

  5. Lincoln will do their thing, so this may be the slowest tempo they've played at since the Blake Smith/Riley Bodner days.

Who else does Pulaski have other than Fraley? I know he's very talented and can do a ton of damage by himself, but they won't win another region without more help.

I've got the same question for Somerset. Young is a great coach, and they've got a tremendous backcourt, but who else do they have? That's a legitimate question, no jabs or anything. I need to get to a game this season.

DCA unquestionably has a boatload of talent but I got to watch them several times last season and the lack of basketball feel in key moments really haunted them, even with Don Story as coach.

  6. If Dumphord is playing for Wayne and the chemistry is right they will be the team to beat. Wayne was pretty scary last season and didn't have him; they're relatively young as well.

Hearing DCA is worried Fugate won't be eligible but regardless, they will be a hand full with all the size, as @LethalPG mentioned.

Somerset is going to be tough to match up with and will be a team nobody wants in the postseason.

I've also heard that there won't be a Bishop for Lincoln which is part of the reason Jackson went and got the Horton twins back.

I'm really excited to see what the 12th region holds this season. As everyone has mentioned, it's a little more spread out than usual and there are plenty of teams who could make some noise.

  7. This one had some drama in it. With Somerset up 2-1, Boyle County scores on a corner kick that rolled to the back of the 18 and was finished with only 4 seconds remaining in regulation.

In double over time (2nd half of golden goal), Somerset breaks through off a lobbed pass over Boyle County's back line and was finished with a headed chip over Boyle's keeper with about 1:30 left before heading to PKs.

Gotta love region tournament time! Somerset plays the winner of Danville-West Jessamine.

There were 2 teams that punched their ticket for the State Tournament next week.

Estill Co is heading there for the FIFTH TIME in a row representing the 14th Region.

Estill Co stands in with a record of 15-6-1, they went undefeated in their District and Region this year and were Semifinalists in the 2A Championships.

    Congrats to the Lady Engineers!!!

Coach Beeler has been outstanding since taking the reins. Congrats to them, it's never an easy feat to consistently win a region that often in any sport!

⚔️ 1️⃣8️⃣ Final from Louisville vis The Scoreboard.

Eighteen. 18. One-followed-by-an-eight consecutive wins for the Lady Knights. Congratulations on a tough road win too.

Is Lex Cath a clear favorite now to win their second state championship?

Both teams have completed the regular season. 26th and 43rd District drawings are yet to be reported.

In my opinion, I think they are the clear favorites, although there are about 5 teams up top who pose threats to them. Winning the region won't be an easy feat, the 11th region has some stout competition Lex Cath will need to wade through.

  10. Final 5 minutes were back and forth but Garrard County holds on to give them their first win on the season!

Hayden Elleman makes game winning touchdown catch with about 13 seconds left, East nearly marches 40/45 yards right back for a touchdown but Garrard holds on defensively with the last play starting with 3 seconds in the game, getting the stop.
