  1. Total meltdown from Boyle in the last few minutes of that game. Questionable decision to go for it on 4th and 4 which gave Lex Cath good field position. The defense couldn't stop the big play and gave up two touchdowns on back to back drives. O-line couldn't stop the ends from getting pressure on Dawson during their last possession. Plays took forever to get in and led to a penalty that wiped out a would-be game winning touchdown.

Because the KHSAA keeps classes in a set number basically it can cause some really tough cuts in class. Meaning you can have a school that is pretty close to the top of one class enrollment wise (a difference of maybe 20 or less make students) get thrown into a class where now they play against teams with 50-100 male enrollment difference just in their district.

I don't understand why they keep exactly 32 in 1A and 6A but let the classes in between get close to 40. I would rather see each class be the same size plus/minus 2.

-Boyle County has an enrollment very firmly in the middle of 4A.  They previously petitioned to move up there from 3A. There was discussion up-thread as to whether they'd do so again, but seems like they may be there anyway. Maybe the question would be if they'd petition to move to 5A.

Tons of great info in that post, I'm only pulling out Boyle in my reply though.

Will Frederick Douglass be able to stay in 5A or are they looking at a move up to 6A? If they are able to stay in 5A, I would love to see a district with Boyle and Douglass! They seem to get Lex Cath in their district pretty often so geographically it could work.

  4. Dudley Hilton's Bobcats travel to Dyehouse Stadium to take on the Golden Lions. Bell County has owned 3A District #5 in this current alignment cycle and that does not seem to be changing this year. Bell County has scored no fewer than 28 points in all 6 of their games this year and will look to continue their winning ways by dominating the line of scrimmage in order to run the ball.

Garrard got off to a slow start this year, but they have won their last two games by scoring over 40 points in each game and holding their last three opponents to 20 points or under. The level of competition is getting turned up about 8 levels this week.

I look for Garrard County to play good defense against Bell, but the size and physicality of the Bobcats for 48 minutes will be too much for the Golden Lions this week.

    Bell County 21

    Garrard County-7

  5. The Ravens will almost certainly use the franchise tag on him for the '23 season and maybe even the '24 season. The only real leverage he has with Ravens is by threatening to sit out in order to force a trade to another team that may be willing to pay him that much guaranteed money.

Also, the Watson contract does not seem to be setting the market like many thought it would. The Wilson and Murray contracts came after him and neither one guaranteed more than 50% of the total value.

I honestly thought it was louder on Thursday night than the playoffs or Chiefs game last year.  A couple season ticket holder said the same thing.

As a season ticket holder myself, I will say that I thought the loudest I've ever heard that stadium was last year's playoff game when Ogunjobi recovered the fumble from Carr. With that being said, this past game was pretty loud too, especially when the crowd forced the Dolphins to take two timeouts basically back to back.

Ravens have the best player in the game by a wide margin. They also have an atrocious defense. If the Ravens are able to somehow get the dub, it will be solely because of #8.

He may be the most athletic player, but certainly not the best. The Ravens' defense giving them 2 short fields against Buffalo was the only reason they stayed in that game last week.

Give me the Redhounds, I liked what I watched last week.

It might be my CKY bias but I feel like Corbin is flying under the radar a little this season. I know that they are ranked in the top 4 in 4A, but it doesn't seem like they are getting enough pop as a true threat in 4A.

I think they'll win this game easily. The playoffs can't get here soon enough!

This is the best player I've seen this year that BG has faced.  He never came off the field and excelled in all 3 phases.  He is a special player for sure.  I wish him the best (except when they play BG - HA!)

I wonder where he projects at the next level, my guess would be a receiver in the Wan'Dale Robinson/Rondale Moore mold, but those guys were 5'9" at best. I think Tavey is closer to 6'0" and still growing (someone please correct me if I'm wrong about that).

Either way, he's a special athlete and I'm sure this offer is the first of many Power 5 schools coming his way.

It's hard to say what element Bathiany will bring to this game in his first go-round. Plus, LexCath has had an extra week of prep for Boyle. They did last year too and it played to their benefit. New coach and a bye week adds an extra layer to this game.

Interesting point about Bathiany for Lex Cath, that adds another layer to this game. Boyle also had an extra week to prepare, which I think negates any advantage Lex Cath may have had in that area. Boyle's coaches have shown an ability to get creative offensively and work around their weaknesses. Boyle just keeps looking better and better each week; the closer this game gets the more I think that Boyle wins big.

Teams generally can't choose to drop in class. It is about their enrollment numbers. I am told CCH and Highlands will be in 4A based on their enrollment numbers.

You think Boyle will drop to 3A? I'm guessing they do.

Highlands was slated to play in 4A last go around but chose to play up and Boyle was the 2nd highest school in 3A originally. I think it is likely that they both end up in 4A this time around.

If Johnson Central, Corbin, Louisville Central, and Lex Cath stay in 4A, along with Boyle, Highlands, and potentially Cov Cath you could have a loaded field of traditional powerhouses (and a few current ones too 😁.)

Danville's district setup has them in the west now rather than the east, right?  So based on RPI you could theoretically be looking at a scenario where Mayfield could play Danville in the region finals?  Kinda wild to speculate about seeing a matchup like that in the round of 8.

That's one of the good and bad things about this current RPI setup. It guarantees you two west teams and two east teams in the semis, but it can move great games up a round too early. For example, 4A is almost guaranteed to have some combination of Corbin, Johnson Central, Lexington Catholic, Boyle playing in the 3rd round.
