What is the issue with the Cooper administration? The school seems to be on the uptick with sports.
From what I’ve heard he’s very unhappy with how the Rondon situation was handled by administration.

As easily as Lloyd won this one, if they play the same against Newport they will lose by double digits. Beechwood had so many open shots and could not put the ball in the basket. The key for Lloyd was Walker shut Sullivan down and no one else on Beechwood could score. Blackburn found his game late but it was over by then.
These are good points. But with that being said after watching the Newport game, if they shoot the ball like they did last night I don’t see any way the game isn’t a single digit margin. Newport did not shoot the ball well at all.

You can say the same about both teams. You can blame Lloyd for holding the ball but also blame Dixie for sitting back in the zone and allowing Lloyd to hold the ball.

Lloyd held the ball for 6 straight minutes in the 4th Quarter and it almost backfired on them from what I heard.
I don’t know about almost back fired. Lloyd was never losing in the 4th quarter. It was always either tied or Lloyd was up two.

8th Region Coach of the Year. Steiner has done an outstanding job with this group.
Definitely one of his better coaching jobs over the course of the season. SK teams seem to typically peak midseason and fizzle out late but that’s not the case this year.

Not being funny or disrespecting your comment, but help me understand your thought process on how Lloyd matches up better vs. Cooper with arguably their best player in Andy Johnson, who is now healthy? Cooper is a different team with Johnson on the floor, offensively and defensively, and has the ability to go 10-11 deep with their bench.
Truly, anything can happen but the only teams to beat and/or hold Newport within 10 or less points in this region are CCH and Cooper.
I thought about it this way…Lloyd doesn’t have a ton of shooters aside from Collins and Bresser and Newport’s size cuts off their drive. Newport has Turner and Starks inside to neutralize Walker. Turner proved to be able to step out and guard Walker effectively on the perimeter. In the game I watched Lloyd play Cooper, Pouncy wasn’t overly effective protecting the rim on defense as Lloyd’s guards got to the rim effectively and were able to finish. Walker was able to get what he wanted a decent amount of the time offensively against Pouncy. I just think Newports size at all positions bothers Lloyd the most and how they want to play.

Couldn't agree more. Cooper's top 2 players missed the game this week and Cooper still almost pulled off the upset with tough defense and a monster game from Shaun Pouncy. Kinney is Kinney and there is no one that has completely stopped him all season. However, their depth is a question in my opinion as he had 28 of the 48 points and only 3 other players scored in that game. Just hoping there is a round 2 with both teams at full strength. CCH will certainly have their hand in things also as Caden Miller is a force that NKY has not had in many years and there are a couple of other sleepers that could pull off upsets. Of course we all know the ball can bounce any way at Truist just like last year.
I think we are in for another great 9th region tournament and NKY is just simply blessed with great basketball talent and coaching.
Agree with all of this. Cooper is the biggest threat to beat Newport in my opinion. If Cov Cath has a hot shooting night they can pull it off as well. I’ve watched all of the top 4 teams play each other (Newport, Cooper, Cov Cath, Lloyd) Lloyd matches up better with Cov Cath and Cooper than they do Newport. I believe Lloyd is able to beat Cooper and Cov Cath but just doesn’t match up with Newport good enough to beat them. Very interested to see how Ccoper looks when they’re at full strength. Gonna be a very exciting postseason as always!

As of today, no doubt. There will be challengers before it’s all said and done but you are correct, they are the leaders in the clubhouse currently.
Cov Cath and Cooper will definitely be challengers. I think Lloyd will give them a better game if they play them again especially since Lloyd had 2 of their top 6 players out. But beat them I’m not sure.

Wow! What a game for Athens! And such a young pup too.
I was a little worried for the Colonels late in the game, but they did it. Lloyd is a mightly fine squad.
Lloyd doesn’t graduate any players in their rotation. They’ll be really really good next year.

I love the Walker kid’s game. Flu bug won’t matter when he is on the court. Nice game
Had 23 points and around 15 rebounds last night in Lloyd’s win over Scott.

Juggs have won 6 in a row now. Seems like they’re starting to put it together.

Did Simon have some players out? Something else?
According to the livestream I saw everyone played that normally does. Travis Krohman was out for a while but he’s back now. I believe they’re at full strength. Things aren’t great in Independence right now.

I don't recall ever hearing his name mentioned during the game.
Thank you. This really just shows how good La Lumiere is, even without him they still looked like an elite team and put on a great showing. Also Cov Cath had a great showing against them.

This is no knock at Cov Cath as I believe they’re the best team in the 9th region and a top team in the state. But I did hear that Jalen Haralson La Lumiere’s best player and top 10 player in 2025 didn’t play. Just a rumor…any truth to that?

Lloyd got up 18 in the 3rd quarter and let NCC get hot. NCC was lights out from 3 all night.

Ruthsatz started last night? In whose place, Stewart?
Yes in Stewart’s. Stewart only got about a minute of playing time.

We’ll have to agree to disagree, Ruthsatz is not a top 5 player/starter on this team. But, considering the circumstances, that battle is already lost.
I actually did think the same thing before last night and was very surprised to see him starting but his game looked much improved in last night’s game. Ruthsatz played really well.

1:45 pt for Gaiser??
Everyone who played more than him tonight is better than him at this point. Not taking anything away from him as he’s definitely a good player.

How is their depth this year?
From what I’ve watched it’s ok. They bring a few kids in off the bench who can hold their own.

When the Juggs get out and run and play fast they’re hard to stop. Whole team is athletic and can run the floor.

A few, not all, of the football guys played having not picked up a baskeball since June and having half of one practice. I will agree that not having Johnson is huge as well as the older Pouncy but he should be returning very very soon!
This team will look totally different come mid-late January and the best coach in the 9th will have his team ready come tourney time so if teams are going to get Cooper they better do it now while they're wounded because like I stated, they'll look and be playing differently in the not too distant future.
I agree 100 percent. Cooper has a few of the best players in the region and a lot of depth to go with it. From what I’ve seen so far this season it looks as if Johnson has made major improvements in his game from last year to this year. Having him playing at the level he is will help them tremendously.
