Oh I don’t wanna leave. It would be a tough pill to swallow but at the end of the day I’m going to have to do what’s best for my youngest. Yeah I’ve busted some balls on transfers and I’m sure I’ll get it back. But if you wanna call me out use your real name not a screen name ! And really we don’t have to leave he can stay here and just play baseball or basketball . I won’t transfer to Boyle or Danville just to buy a championship……… there’s more options like Casey, or garrard!!!!

What do you mean by "buy a championship?"

Why because they are doing their due diligence on hiring the next coach? That doesn’t make much sense, Garrard took forever too, it’s just all part of the process. Give it time, we have had holidays and everything too, that extends the time they needed to get this done.

The problem with taking your time now is that the off-season has already started and isn't going to wait around. I understand the kids are in the weight room with Coach Rogers now, but if he isn't the guy and doesn't stay that's time you lose in the transition.

If Lincoln has not started interviews yet, they are dropping the ball on this hire. While I haven't seen anything publicly, I would have to think by Lincoln waiting, it does not sound well for Rogers and Cooper. Can anybody better than me and with more sources provide any update? Schools seem to be hiring every day but Lincoln is in no hurry.

I would've thought that if Rogers was going to be the guy they would've already completed the hire as well. Especially if he is running the weight room and off-season stuff.

Sounds like support is behind Cooper and Rogers, but applications have not been made public. Other applicants could have support also but until it's public, then the community seems happy with the direction of the program under the leadership of one of the assistants. General opinion is the community does not want a complete blow up and start over. Now, things could change. But this is what I was told last night and was confirmed by other friends in the area this morning. I'll be surprised if Lincoln hires a complete outsider at this point.

I am curious to know who applied and is potentially getting passed over just to keep it "in house." Not saying either guy would be a bad hire because I assume both are good people from your post. Just curious.

You can’t make kids play football who want to be the next NBA star. One of the current basketball stars was a man-child on the 8th grade basketball team. I saw his daddy, who I played with through youth football and high school, and this conversation took place:

Me: Your boy would look good in a football uniform.
Him: He don’t wanna play, and he doesn’t like contact or the effort football takes.

I have heard the allegations about certain players being told that that they couldn’t play both football and basketball, and have never been able to confirm it. If anyone reading this has first-hand knowledge of it, I’d be interested in hearing it.

Jeff Jackson is an extremely good basketball coach, and I have the utmost respect for him. His success shouldn’t be criticized because of a fall-off in the football program.

The football program lacks what made it so competitive in the 80s and 90s—a solid feeder program. When I played youth football, we played through the 8th grade, and there were six teams in the county: three in Stanford and one each in Crab Orchard, Waynesburg, and Hustonville.

At that time, the youth league was operated by the Lions Club and was always very well done. Youth football is now under the county Parks and Recreation department and is not well executed.

And, while we thought the consolidated middle school, that started in 1994, would be beneficial for football, it has been the opposite. Too many kids are getting weeded out by the 8th grade, and they move on to other sports or activities.

Basketball, on the other hand, still has grade school teams through the 5th grade and then has a very robust middle school program that has been very beneficial. Football is a numbers game, basketball isn’t.

The next football coach needs to be involved in the feeder program, including the middle school.

Marty Jaggers always liked to talk about Jimmies and Joes, and your X’s and O’s don’t matter without them. More students need to play football, and they need to get interested in it and stay interested.

No one is criticizing the success of the basketball team and Jeff Jackson's name was never mentioned in my post. I said attention.

Jackson prefers not to share athletes and demands basketball first. Just what I’ve heard many times over the years.

I've heard the same. No reason some of those basketball athletes shouldn't have been on the football field over the years. Lincoln's best teams have came when every athlete is playing multiple sports.

I think this starts to change soon.  Their middle school team was very successful, and their booster club has showed tremendous support the last few years.  Coach Jackson is close to retirement as well.

Good point. I don't know anything about what happens on the inside, just an outsider looking in. Lincoln has had good athletes over the years. Always seems to me the top football players play basketball but that isn't reciprocated. If you want to win at a high level, your best athletes need to play multiple sports.
