  1. Congrats to both teams!

Cov Cath earned the win by taking advantage of PT mistakes. PT will learn and get better from the experience. For the majority of the game they were probably the better team on both sides of the ball but you simply can't go on the road this late in November and have numerous dropped passes in open field, INTs from those dropped passes, bad snaps on punts, etc etc.

  2. PT has everything they need to win a state title. That is also true of the other teams still contending in 4A. The question for both teams will be not be who has the biggest strength/ advantage it will be who can expose the others weakness. I have watched very little Cov Cath this year. For PT they have really good size up front but I am not sure they can control the OL to establish a consistent running game against good competition. So being one dimensional I think could be a weakness.

The long trip will also be a factor. It is nice that school is out so atleast you can leave Paducah as needed.

My guess is a really fun and competitive 34-24 game with the home team winning. But I really hope that I am wrong. Neutral field I would take PT.

  3. I did not get to watch the game but I expected a little more dominant performance from Mayfield on teh scoreboard. Maybe Hendo scored late, I don't know.

Regarding the refs- there is no agenda. If you feel like you are getting a lot of penalties then you need to address that with position coaches in my opinion.

  4. I gotta be honest. I have watched all of the PT games either live or on youtube. I have also heard the complaints about officials vs PT for over 10years. I simply don't agree. There are always a couple questionable calls in every game at any level. The majority however seem to be legitimate calls.

Of course coaches and fans are going to feel like they are the target. PT seems to have a lot of careless penalties. It's not a new thing. Perhaps if you think they are getting called for penalties but they are only doing as coached then you might need to have a discussion with that position coach.

Lots of new refs in the region. Give the. Some grace. They will make some mistakes but there is no agenda against any teams.

PT has everything they need to win a state title in 4A this year. They should have home field advantage at least the first 3 playoff games if not more. Work on the penalties, win on the scoreboard and get the title- everything else is just noise.

That was the MO last year as well. How does the Jackson Purchase correct this? This game had to be the biggest non district game in that region every year. Congrats PT.

There were some odd calls sure. The 10 min delay after the onside was ridiculous but most of the calls in the game were reasonable to me.

I’m not so sure on the WR though. It’s very close if not leaning towards mayfield. Biggers and Dabney are both stud receivers. What were they? 4 and 3 on the WPSD ranking. Braden Morris Is another senior WR that’s very underated. And then youngsters Mack and Malik Kirby can take any catch to the house easily. I get you got the new guy. And he is arguably the real #1. But we definitely have 2 and 3. Idk, I say us.

I would go PT here. I don't put a lot of stock in WPSD rankings personally. I think PT is better and deeper with this group. Both are very good.

I think Mayfield is just as talented as PT, which is saying something. Let’s break it down position by position

    QB- Push

James is talented from PT but Cartwright is as well. Turnovers out of this position will decide the game imo.

    RB- Advantage Mayfield

Starks is a load. Mayfield is committed to running the ball. PT doesn’t run it a lot.

    WR- Advantage PT

    OL- Advantage PT

    DL- Advantage Mayfield

Both teams have studs in Mayfield #55 & PT #76, but I think Mayfield has a little more umph in supporting cast.

    LB- Mayfield

DB- PT but it’s close imo. Biggers is a lockdown corner and Dabney at safety is a good combo. Is Ragsdale playing for PT? If so it puts PT over the top with Carter.

I’m still going with Mayfield in this one. I’ll say 27-21.

I would give Mayfield the edge at QB, RB and LB.

I would give edge to PT on OL, DL and a considerable advantage in the secondary.

If there's a dead horse worth beating on BGP, it's Tilghman making mental mistakes to cost them games. If it's been a problem for years and plagued them through the first two weeks of this season, it's highly unlikely they're going to clean it up in time for the game of the year in WKY. Something like that is too systemic to cure in one week.

I went against my better judgement and picked the Tornado last year. I was seduced by the talent and gust of optimism stemming from the state runner-up finish. For me to side with them again would require blind faith in their ability to harness the discipline that's been beyond their reach for so long.

Faith in Mayfield is easy to come by, because they're the antithesis of the Tornado. Discipline was a virtue poured into the foundation of Cardinal football.

Tilghman has the edge from the neck down, Mayfield from the neck up. The question is, how much better is Mayfield's body compared to Tilghman's head? Plenty good enough, in my opinion, for me to rest my faith in the Cards this year.

All that being said, Martels Carter Jr. is the type of player that can nullify any deficiencies Tilghman might have on just a few touches, be it receptions, tipped balls on defense, or kick returns.

I look for another classic, with Mayfield doing all of the little things right and executing a well tailored game plan - like kicking away from Carter - to extend the streak.

100% agree on all points. But I am still being seduced by the talent but less by optimism than last year.

This is my last post on the subject as I don’t want it to be a distraction or create a negative vibe so early in the season. As I’ve stated numerous times, this is Highlands best team in years and the class EVERYONE in Fort Thomas who’s been watching, has expected to do very big things. Bob doesn’t need 4 years to do what he was brought here to do, win state. That timeline wasn’t the expectation when he arrived and it’s not now.  The time is now, with this class. He’s had 2 years to establish his system and get the boys bodies built up. The work is done. So the frustrating part for me, is seeing how poorly they’ve executed right out of the gate, in both games.

Winning cures a lot of things. Things like assistant coaches making childish tweets and IG posts, personal foul penalties, sophomores refusing to play JV, playing 13 year olds for 8 straight quarters in August, feuding personal trainers glomming off the program publicly bickering and using Highlands players as photo ops and pawns. Those same trainers, and coaches, telling the world via social media that a certain superstar is the the #1 player in the class of 2026, something so incredibly irresponsible and detrimental to said player that I can’t believe those relationships continue. None of that is what I expect from Highlands and none of that is healthy.

So win now because it’s starting to pile up.

I approve this message. Seems like the time is now and the opportunity is still there to reach their goals.
