    West:

Fairdale 24 at 4 Bowling Green

    8 Owensboro at 7 Atherton

    East:

14 North Laurel at 1 Highlands

    9 Cooper at 6 Southwestern

So after this week it gets re bracketed? Are these the right numbers?

if all the home teams win would Atherton go to Highlands for the semi final? Or does it remain E/W?

The Freshman Championship has been a sore subject here and there, over the years. Several schools have fielded a freshman team one year and then not the next and kind of left themselves ignored by other teams in terms of scheduling occasionally. Also, as I understand it, there have historically been some years where one school or another would try to field a freshman team, schedule games, and then after having a skeleton crew of players sign up and then after getting boat-raced in their first two or three games and/or having injuries take their toll, they've cancelled the rest of their season and moved the remaining players up to the JV/varsity roster. The impact of that would be the fact some of the remaining freshman programs would end up short on games compared to other teams. So when things are based on win/loss records and not a playoff, then somebody would end up butt-hurt because they were nixed from contention from the championship game since they didn't have enough wins.

Like say at hypothetically some point in the past Bellevue tried fielding a freshman team. They schedule to play 9 other area teams for their season. They only end up with 18 kids on their roster, and play their first three games against Cov Cath, Highlands and Boone County and lose by 4+ touchdowns per game, plus they end up with 5 injured players, so they throw in the towel for the season. Then Conner and Simon Kenton end up sore over the fact that in combination with having scheduled bye weeks into their seasons, they're also left another game short on the season after Bellevue dropped out, so they don't have a square shot at the championship since they only have the potential for 7 wins at the end of things.

Aaaaaaanyway, my understanding is that there have been things like that that have happened. Still, for at least most of the 80s/90s/00s, there was an attempt to have a championship game based on whichever teams had the best records. I believe the last time there was a game that was officially established as the NKY Freshman Regional Championship was 2010, when Cov Cath and Highlands played for the title. Cov Cath came into the game with a 9-1 record and their only loss had been earlier in the season to Highlands, who had beaten them 36-7. The championship was played at Highlands, and the Birds (who I believe finished the season undefeated) won the rematch 36-14. Sam Dressman was QB for Cov Cath, with Nick Pope as their starring RB, and Sam Burchell & Adam Fischer were leading the defense. Highlands had Drew Houliston at QB, Jalen Hayes, Zach Harris & Thomas Wrobleski running the ball, and Brandon Hergott at WR.

That Highland frosh team beat Lou St X in the first game of the year. X had like 98 kids on the sidelines.

What you can do is make the other team’s offensive line have to work. Dixie used 2 defensive linemen the whole night with 4 linebackers (2 walked up), and 5 DBs. sent the house every play. Highlands would come to line see who they had and boom. You know why? Because 1 they are bigger upfront and 2 Dixie had 6 in box compared to highlands 7/8 in the box.

Lefts flip over to the offensive side.
You know the other team only gives up 65 yards rushing a game compared to 275.5 yards in the air. You come out and think the run going to work nope. When Dixie threw it, it was from one hash to the other side of the field past the numbers 5 yards down the field. That’s a far throw with no time to create any separation. Now when the middle of the field is open all night and you only throw it there 3 times ( 2 to the TE for 2TDs and 1 slant) that’s a problem.

2DLmen is a head scratcher for sure.

Well that was ugly. Hats off the birds way to take care of business.

Dixie WOW. 2 weeks to prepare for this game and that’s what you do?

It’s hard to prepare for a huge running QB. You can’t really simulate it in practice full go.

I think his size and athleticism make him a handful for most high school teams. If he gets to the right style of offense he can be a ok QB, but I think he would be a TE for many college teams.

Exactly my take. He can probably go to a big time D1 school if switches to TE at the next level. QB is just a harder path. Big athletic kid with tremendous field awareness and vision. Any school that uses the TE/FB H back scheme should give Benke a look.

Enough to know that the officials don't cheat the Bluebirds on every reception or touchdown lol. I don't know about alot.....but I know a little more about football than most folks.

Ok ok I got carried away. Refs had a couple of bad calls early. In no way did refs do everything for Cooper. Cooper offense did enough to win the game. OHara played a perfect game to be honest. Birds need to be ready for this team in the playoffs. They are really good.
