⚔️ 🏴‍☠️ | Final at Union per The Scoreboard.

Nice win for the Cru. Congrats!

🤔 27 points. Didn't see this one coming.

    Up next ~

St. Henry (9-13, R9 #11), Monday at Eminence.

Ryle (15-10, R9 #7), Wednesday at Bishop Brossart.

I think you have the scores reversed.

So they were underdogs or at best evenly matched against Southern?  Anyway, nobody is disparaging the young man.  I guess it’s a good thing they have a cupcake tomorrow night, with the weak schedule BE has played and all.  Anyway, question for everyone….what is a good place to eat in Union?

Now don’t go putting words in my mouth! I was referencing the games they scheduled.

It should be a great game. Another toss up for sure! For the record, we were all pulling for BE last year. Incredible run! Good luck tomorrow night.

if you’re looking for a sports bar, I’d suggest Barleycorns, Blind Squirrel, Wings and Rings, or Longnecks. All are solid.

There will be an unofficial tail-gating area going on near the field house. Feel free to come join. We won’t bite.

I can't see that either.  But to be honest, it's not the TD/INT ratio that surprises me per se.  Ryle puts the ball in the air quite a bit so the 8 INTs aren't necessarily surprising to me, but the fact he only has 24 TD passes this season.  As solid of a QB as he is and the fact they put the ball in the air as much as they do (they have almost more pass completions this year than rushing attempts), I figured he would have well over 30 at this point in the season.

As mentioned, Ryle had no cupcakes. 8 of their 11 games they were underdogs or at best, evenly matched games. The other 3 were Campbell County, Conner, and Great Crossings who aren’t push overs. I would assume that with a weaker schedule, his All State #’s would look even better.

Really!  I can't find where RO used the word last, but I can find you using it twice.

I did edit because the term he used was “highest” when discussing his negative cherry picked, seemingly off topic stat.

QB metrics can be very deceiving. There are many to choose from. He chose to bring his TD/INT one from left field in response to someone else’s nice overview of NKY’s top QB’s.

It seemed like a dig at one of the state’s top QB’s to me.

I agree on the overall schedule; playing St. X, CAL, Cov Cath, and Highlands (all losses) will pump up an SoS. Kudos to the schedule makers for putting the team to the fire. I've liked Ryle's scheduling for a while now.

The Massey Ratings list the #22 Raiders' schedule to date as the seventh toughest in the state. The top 11 are all 6A teams.

    🔗 masseyratings.com/hsf/ky/ratings

Ryle maybe should be playing the toughest schedule; they are the largest of the six schools. The others aren't playing slouches comparative to their Class. SoS, per Massey:

    6A ~ 7. Ryle

    5A ~ 2. Dixie; 4. Highlands; 12. Cooper

    4A ~ 2. Cov Cath

    2A ~ 2. Beechwood

There are also a fair number of common opponents for teams of the QBs listed that Ryle has played -  Highlands 5, Cooper 5, Dixie 5, and Cov Cath 4. Beechwood has played 4 of the other teams - Simon Kenton, Campbell Co., Dixie, and Cov Cath. Great Crossing - 3. I think everyone is mostly playing in the same pool.

Regarding Mr. Verax's performance this season:

    • For teams ranked ranked above Ryle: 2 INT/4 TD, .500.

    • For teams ranked below the Raiders: 6 INT/20 TD, .300

    Career numbers, INT/TD

    2020 (FR) 1 INT/3 TD, .333

    2021 (SO) 8 INT/18 TD, .444

    2022 (JR) 19 INT/17 TD, 1.118

    2023 (SR) 8 INT/24 TD, .333

    Totals - 36 INT/62 TD, .580

OK, thanks for all the data. I'm sure Mr. Verax will be glad to know someone's out there using metrics to highlight how he's LAST on the list.

    Thanks @FirstTimeLongTime.

Maybe worth noting, of the QBs on this list, Verax has the highest INT/TD ratio:

    Litmer, Highlands ~ 1/20 .050

    O'Hara, Cooper ~ 5/39 .128

    Hayden, Beechwood ~ 5/38 .132

    Pitzer, Cov Cath ~ 4/26 .154

    Benke, Highlands ~ 4/24 .167

    Gregg, Dixie ~ 6/21 .286

    Verax, Ryle ~ 8/24 .333

He also played a much harder schedule. Safe to assume his TD's would be significantly higher with similar SOS as others in NKY. Harder to get in the end zone vs faster, better players.

A lot of deserving players didn't get selected. I actually agree with Aba being chosen. He wasn't just a role player. Kid played both ways and every game and was a force. While other players were good on one side of the ball or the other.

Don’t disagree he’s a good choice and a great player, but the facts are: Ryle won the district, had a much harder schedule, and rarely do you see a QB who leads the state in those stats get snubbed.

I’d feel differently if SK won the district.

There are three groups in 6A:

Group 1 is the top five ranked teams here. All of them could win a title (although I’m not totally sold on Manual).

Group 2 is the collection of Station, Ballard, Bullitt East, and maybe PRP (although like Manual above, I’m not totally sold on PRP). All of them can win multiple playoff games and could scare one of the top five, but I don’t think they can win a title.

Group 3 is everyone else (including Ryle and Simon Kenton). And I’d say every team ranked 1-5 is dying to play a Group 3 team instead of one from Group 2.

    That looks about right.

Ryle had a good showing vs Dixie that makes me think they could be in Group 2. They are also higher than PRP and Bullitt East in RPI and CalPreps, so Madden isn't the only one who places them there.

  9. I only like a playoff when needed for Frosh. If one team stands alone undefeated (like last year) then what’s the point?

By the end of the season, the better players are finding their way onto the JV/Varsity teams. Many of which aren’t permitted to play, so technically it’s not the best players/teams anyways.

This year’s “bowl-like” format seems to be the best of both worlds. Allow a champion be crowned without having unnecessary first round blowouts.

However, if I coached a team that ran the table, I’d prefer those kids have a week or two of JV/Varsity experience over additional Frosh games.
