  1. Thanks for your support. Your comments were passed on to the guys. Sorry we missed you at State, but your influence was definately there. Seems that they picked up a huge amount of C-C-C from their previous football coach.
  2. One thing that would help our refs is involvement with USA wrestling. To be qualified as a ref, you must take a 6 hour course and be involved in refereeing as part of a 3 ref team. There are 3 officials per match - one on the mat, one at the table, and one across the mat. All call the match and can be overruled by the others. Additionally, emphasis is placed upon mat position. You are taught to anticipate and get to the place where the judgement must be made. This team approach takes the burden off a particular individual and allows for discussion afterwards to review calls and compare the reasons for awarding points. When you are overruled, you get another refs perspective. The result is more consistency in calls.

  5. Unfortunately, wrestling follows football. After putting everything on the line during the football season, he has some part of his body that has suffered. Freshman and Junior year it was shoulders (resulting in operations) and the other years it was muscle tears in his lower back.
  6. Martinko had his first match on Wednesday. He's been recovering from a back injury during football. Wenninger is 28-1 with his only loss to Richard Starks (State Champion). Wenninger won the Jeffersonville, In tourn. which was loaded with some of the top 189 wrestlers in Southern Indiana. Drew Robinson was ranked, but is out for the season from a neck injury during football. Matt Martin is starting again, but over-analyzes everything and doesn't trust his instincts. He's at 12-13 right now. As a whole, the team is really banged up. 103 - quit 112 - Hasn't made weight 119 - Knee injury, only has 6 matches 125 - 130 - Dislocated elbow, should be back in mid-Jan 135 - Moved out of district 140 - Ringworm 145 - Neck injury, out for season 152 - 160 - Bleeding polyp in Colon 171 - Parents took him on "vacation" for two weeks, so he needs to get back to form 189 - 215 - Just back from injury 275 - Kid that's wrestling here only weighs 206, and his knee is injured. In spite of all this, the team has placed high in tournaments and hung in close in most of the dual meets. Thanks for asking. Hope all is better than you hoped for in your new location. Best wishes for the New Year.
  7. In the Oldham schools, it depends upon the SBDM. Oldham, South, and maybe North have a policy that does not allow a middle school athlete to compete at the high school level if there is a middle school team. It was put in place several years ago after several track members competed for the high school (and actually qualified for State), but the middle school team did not have a great year. The coach felt that the team was jeopardized by allowing for individual accomplishment. With the emphasis on Middle School State titles, the middle school wrestlers have not competed at the High School level for the past few years at Oldham and it has hurt the team and the wrestlers. When they get to high school, they are not prepared for HS level competition. If they had been allowed to compete in MS, they would have the experience to move up to the next level when they enter HS. Experience does not have to mean starting for the Varsity - it could be as simple as getting 1 or 2 Varsity starts or competing in a large HS JV tournament.
  8. It was Woodford's A team, but they were a little thinned out by injuries and academic issues.
