  1. Hypothetically.... How would everyone feel to do a two week State Championship Tournament? The winner of A play the winner of AA for Small School State Champs, AAA winner play winner of AAAA, play for Middle State Champs, and AAAAA winner play AAAAAA winner play for large school State Champs?

Would this take away from winning your class and how would it impact the basketball programs keeping the kids from another week of their next sport?

  2. Goodness. Reading this is giving me a panic attack on what my kids will be doing in High School. Maybe no pads at all until game day. If I recall right. Watch films on Saturday morning if we had a Friday night game, if a Saturday day game films on Monday and then full equipment after Mon thru Thurs if a Saturday game then Helmets and shoulder pads for walk through on Friday. If a Friday night game, Full pads Mon thru Wed and walk thru on Thurs. also had full equipment 2 a days for about 10 days with no dead period. Also had running program and agility program in the summer and had a winter lifting and agility program. Most played other sports so you would lift after your other practice. I know kids safety is most important but geez. How do you get in game condition if you can’t go full pads and have contact during the season..... Just my thoughts. Anyone else do something like I did 94 to 97?

  3. I know they're *intending* on doing a video broadcast for the home football games, but I was told that a good while back, and I know at that point there was still a bit to get accomplished in order to have a video livestream. Not sure at this point.

They did the home games on FB live last year and the quality was pretty good. Just haven’t heard about this year yet. I guess if not I will just listen. Go Colonels!!

  4. So with the beef that Henry Clay has on their O-line, and two receivers that Cov Cath's DBs are going to struggle to keep a hat on, that means the Colonels' defensive plan has to be getting a big push up front and keeping pressure on VanHorn all night.

I think Cov Cath's biggest advantage in the game is their offense, and their ability to grind out drives and keep the Henry Clay offense off of the field. I'm guessing we may not see as many deep passes tonight out of the Colonels because our receivers aren't going to be able to get the same kind of separation that they oftentimes can with other teams' DBs. We may well see some more pass attempts over the middle to Michael Mayer. I'll be interested to see how they use Duncan Summe and the jet sweep as well. I figure this will be a good night for Casey McGinness and the running game. Might even see a decent bit of the wildcat look out of the Colonels...they brought that out for a good bit of their Bluegrass Bowl game last year against Lex Cath.

Very great points. Does our height advantage help on the passing game though? This could be interesting to say the least..... Go Colonels!!

  5. I too am very interested. Those two players (specifically Langston who ran a 10.5 100m last year) WILL be the fastest players on the field tonite and if they get an inch of daylight there will not be anyone that can catch them. This game just might be closer than the running clock that some are predicting if he gets loose.

10.49 to be exact.... LOL..... Guy has some wheels. Fastest guy in the state in the 100 and 200m dash. My Colonels better contain him. Could be interesting.

  6. Any high school football program that doesn't attempt to develop two Frosh QBs each year is negligent.

In other words, at any given time you should ideally have 8 plus QBs in your program.

Point on.... How do you not have 3 upperclassman ready to go. Especially for a 6A school. Sounds ridiculous to me....

  7. Sorry about that...I didn't state that exactly as I should have. Jeremy & Tommy did both start for 3 years, in addition to moving up to varsity once the freshman season ended. I believe they both got 1994 state rings because of the move up.

But like CCHColonels44 said, neither Madden or Fowee spent 3 full years as the sole starting RB. That was the point I was trying to make when I said Chadwick was the first 3 year starter. After the 97 season, we were looking to have Matt Suedkamp start at RB. Matt was a 4-year track standout at Cov Cath, and after tweaking his leg early in the first game of the '98 season, he ended up stepping down off the football team. I never blamed him. He ended up going to college on a track scholarship. Anyway, Cole came in during the first game of his sophomore season, and started at RB every game after until he graduated.

That sir is true!! And Cole Chadwick was one heck of a back too!!!

  8. The late Galen Healy was the primary tailback in 94. The frosh backs eluded to earlier played some in the playoffs. I think he was referring to the Freshman team. They were quite a tandem.

Correct! I would’ve loved to see what Galen could have done if he would’ve started for three years! He was so hard to take down with his low center of gravity and his quick feet! Madden and I only carried the ball a few times per game in the playoffs and did not get in the state game.

  9. So wait your freshman year the two of you were starting running backs for varsity or freshman team? I would have guessed Madden to be the best all time CCH RB.

Started Freshman and moved up to varsity after freshman season.

You could possibly be correct about best ever. I am just waiting to see what Casey McGinnis does this year and you also have to consider Gabe Gray since he almost broke the scoring record and actually only started two years. I think after this year Casey Mcginnis Will hold most of the rushing records along with scoring record’s besides most carries and most 100 yard games. You also can’t count out some of the running backs from the late 80s and early 90s. I would never take anything away from Madden‘s game. He was a beast to be reckoned with.

  10. I thought Madden and Fowee were kind of 3 year starters? As sophomores wasn't Fowee the main guy of the two and Cable played more of a fullback role? Then Madden surpassed Fowee junior year but it was still a duo. And then by senior year Madden was the guy and Fowee became a safety that played running back sometimes? That's how I thought it went down? Madden was really unassuming, super good running back but just looked like a regular dude.

This is correct. Madden and myself were actually running back by committee starting Freshman year. We would alternate possessions. Starting Sophmore year we did the same thing, however injuries plagued us both. Sophomore year was my most productive after healing from a separated shoulder and Madden hurt his ankle. Once he was out, about the 5th game on I was soley in the backfield behind Caple. Junior year we tried the Highland’s split back with the both of us but we’re not successful. Madden had one heck of a year while I played defense and offense. Going into senior year we split time for the first three or so games at tailback until my shoulder kept dislocating and I went strictly on the defensive side besides a few games when Madden tweaked his ankle. From that point on Madden lead the backfield and ultimately to a State Championship!! He was a great back one for sure top 5 in CCH history.

  11. I don't know enough about the Highlands lineup to really say anything, but I questioned Cov Cath intentionally walking two batters to load the bases in the 7th when there was only 1 out.

My exact thought. One on, walk two with one out. Most you get is two outs with the guy that ties it with a HR. I’m no expert but very questionable for my Colonels. From what I read Krumps went away from normal play to get them to the finals and went back to the old school squeez. Not knocking anyone but why put a pitcher in that position in HS. Don’t like the call but I don’t have 1000 wins.
