  1. A great topic of discussion. It is so hard to find great help for a lot of coaches. I believe young coaches are trying to climb the ladder too fast. Younger coaches do not see the value in learning from great coaches and want to have that title beside their name.

Mark Stoops came to Berea KY to watch Damien Harris and Madison Southern play South Laurel.

He was THE ONLY D1 athlete on the field. This was not a "top tier" game that week.

Coaches will find you. It's that simple. Coaches would have found Tavy at Garrard, Dawson at Danville, and Mari at Danville. Is what it is.

As far as the main purpose of this thread, Danville school system needs to look at some things. But, I do think they can find a way throguh it.

Damien Harris was a once in a generation talent. He is playing for the Patriots and went to Alabama! Yes if they are once in a generation they will find you but besides that no.

If that is the case about all of those players why did they come to Boyle? Rings are nice but it was for the opportunities. It is what it is. Boyle has better opportunities for athletes than anyone else in the area. It is what it is.

If the talent is there, the scouts will be there as well, so I adamantly disagree with the statement that scouts will not go watch Garrard County's games.

Furthermore, isn't it a bit out of line to presume that the school district (Garrard County) does not care if its student athletes are successful?

Tell me all the scouts that were at Garrard games when he was there? If you are college coach why would you go watch 1 player or go watch 8 players that are competing at a high level. Then those college programs keep going back to the same schools because they know they will have talent.

Well before Spencer, they only allowed 1 coach in the building. Did not have in school weightlifting. Had terrible facilities. Do you want me to keep going on? They finally started to invest in the program.

If you think everyone around is working as hard in the off-season as some of these teams you're just wrong. Especially the kids at Boyle.

People like Calico Jack say things like that to make themselves feel good about their mediocre program and to disparage kids from making decisions that are best for them. Garrard would have been significantly better than they were with Quisenberry but I am sorry to tell Calico that he would not have the same opportunities if he was still there. He would have never been able to play on the biggest stage if he was still there because the school district does not care if they are successful. The UKs and ULs are not going to come watch Garrard County play a Rockcastle or a Bell. But they will go watch a FD play LCA or Boyle play LCA. The field is loaded with top level talent when teams like the above mentioned play each other.

In regards to jimmies and joes, when you get to the top level of play, everyone in the semifinals and championship games has them. If your belief was true then the team with the most talent would win every year and I know Boyle has been outgunned a few times and still won. Coaching, culture, etc is what separates in the end.

Agree, but the two prior coaches are not as "new age" and active on Social Media.  No surprise, when these moves occur "Ring announcements" are made...

I am sure that is exactly what happened. That Boyle County specifically timed it up that they would make their ring announcements when a player is looking to enroll somewhere else. Shouldn't coaches be active on social media and promote their program? or is it only bad when a coach does it and the team has been ultra successful? Just trying to understand.

Maybe the kids and their families want better opportunities. I do not see anything wrong with that. Plus a coach cannot make a player and their family move to the school district so they can be eligible.

Larry Vaught had a very good article, maybe more on his concerns of the DIS administration when they let Clevenger go. I know there is more to the story than what has hit surface level, but Clevenger hit a home run when he was hired by Somerset!

The RB who is rumored to leave DHS and either be at Boyle or LCA - again, rumors.

Who knows, but with the turnover of administration in the Danville Schools tells you a lot. You can't change the quality of the community by using the same broken myths that have displayed a failure to produce the Winning Football Culture of old, not just football but in general in the system. Times have changed, people and kids have changed. It is hard to be tough on kids when you don't win or relate to the kids - therefore, you must build relationships with the kids/families if you want to have a culture that succeeds, IMHO. Transferring is easy, but finding a way to have people, kids, staff, teachers and administrators to buy in and fight for what is right, well - it starts with leadership and maybe DIS will get it together, but it doesn't look so bright currently.

Good luck to all that are in this together and hope nothing but the best for the students, staff, community that want to see Danville be the best it can in all areas, not just athletics/football.

Are you saying that the RB at Danville has not enrolled at Boyle County?

I know even less about 4A then these 2 fine gentlemen other than Boyle, Corbin,  and JC…..I am also fairly certain it will not stop me from complaining either.

What I will add is our JV and Freshmen teams were loaded last year.  (I believe JV only gave up 9 points all year).  Our varsity was young outside of the trenches last year as we return our entire back 7 on D and every skill player on O.  If some of that JV talent can matriculate to the varsity level we will be hard to stop and hard to score on.

And yes, easily our best team in the last couple of years as the aforementioned 6’4 240lbs Power 5 TE Willie Rodriguez holds 19 D1 college offers and just wrapped a 5th place finish in the state heavyweight wrestling division.  He catches everything and blocks & tackles everyone.

And if 6’5 returning QB Evan Pitzer can take the next step as He has every year, we can easily make a return to Commonwealth Stadium in December.  Games are won and lost in the trenches and that will never ever be more true than at CCH this year.

To wrap it, if you come out to see us play, I would key on our LB core as I am sure @UKato91 will agree, they are going to be way beyond special and fun as a group this year.

    Cannot wait until August…..Go Colonels!

I think the 3 peat State Champions would have something to say about that.

I’ve heard Clevenger, Stonebraker, Parks, and a dark horse candidate in Montice Quisenberry, who would bring his son. Also, his daughter is currently enrolled at Danville, but has been ruled ineligible for the girls basketball team.

Why would Montice move his son from a program that is playing for a state championship?  A program that has put his son in the spotlight by being able to play at Kroger Field. No other program in the area could do that. I am just curious.

Everyone keeps talking about FD handling Boyle this year. I saw the Lexcath vs Boyle game. The only thing I think we learned in those 2 games is this that Boyle has fallen off some. I’d go as far as to say the Boyle run defense is what I’d consider soft. FD shouldn’t run thru Covcath like they did Boyle.

FD will handle Cov Cath. Not saying by running clock but if they decide to run the ball then it will be a long night for Cov Cath. A lot of people talk about the skill players for FD but, in my opinion, the line of scrimmage is where they dominate. D line and O line are both great. They also have 3 really good backs that will be hard to take down.

You talk about the Lex Cath game as if something in regards to the run game should be highlighted. Lex Cath had 42 yards of rushing against Boyle. They beat Boyle by the big play in the passing game in the last minutes of the game.

Cov Cath should not underestimate Freddie D. Very good team that is well coached. Cov Caths offense was held to 7 points by Lex Cath and the Freddie D defense is much better.

Apples to oranges is comparing a two school county to a six school county. Compare a Warren Co. or a Hardin County school to Douglass.

And Danville may want to argue your "Boyle County cannot pull students like Douglass can" quip.

So you proved my point. It is not a fair comparison which is what I was saying. Unsure as to what point you are trying to prove. Danville can quip all they want but Boyle County did not cause the issues that led some students to transfer. They did.

If you mean a program that the coaches work hard to promote their players and devote most of their time to make players and the team the best they can be. Also success breads success. Yes certain schools and even certain programs in a school draws athletes that are good at that sport. A perfect example right now if a player is a very good football player and prospect and lives say in Danville and parents are well off I would guess the kid will probably now go to Boyle County just as they will go to Douglass now over other city schools in Fayette Co. I would also say if a good football player with wealthy parents currently lived in Lafayette’s district the parent may very well pay the tuition and send their kid to Lex. Christian so they would have a better chance to succeed.

Well lets look at Boyle County and compare them to Douglass. 1. Boyle County does not have an academy attached to that is a separate school and kids that go to that school are allowed to play sports for them. 2. Boyle County does not have a magnet program that allows them to pull kids from anywhere in their district regardless of district lines and allows them to be eligible. Boyle County cannot pull students like Douglass can. Douglass was pulling players from the Bryan Station area through the BioMed program. So you are comparing apples to oranges on that front. Douglass has way more avenues than 99% of programs in the state to get the best players. Hats off to them for having those options but its not a fair comparison.

Can you imagine the amount of time and money saved if you get rid of bylaw 16?

So what is your solution to this problem? Considering KHSAA is self funded, which is against the norm in the United States, and they have limited resources with an issue that is increasingly spreading resources thin and with open enrollment now in Kentucky.

  13. Well regardless of how you feel about this issue. It is what it is. You can either complain about the current state of affairs and changing of rules or you can adapt to the current environment and be successful. Students can currently transfer before high school anytime they want to and coaches actively seek kids out at the grade level right now. Just go to Louisville or Lexington on Saturday at any youth league game. Transfers have went up significantly the past year or so. People move all the time solely to go to a school that they feel will better their student and gives them a better chance to be successful. I am all for it. It’s currently happening as we type all these things. Why make it harder for families.
