After watching all three Oldham's play this week. Oldham County is number one followed by South Oldham and then North Oldham. Oldham County whipped Spencer tonight. Spencer played without it's starting center but it wouldn't have mattered. Oldham County is long and bust their tale on defense. I was impressed. Well coached. Spencer County just needs to get some rest. Tough week.

I think Spencer County is still on the bus. Didn't come to play.
-
That's about the poorest start for Spencer County I've ever seen. I can't believe their only down 4 after one.
-
Saw where Powell shot 16 foul shots. Were they late in the game?
It seemed to me that they were spread out. When he goes to the basket more than likely they are going to call a foul.

Sounds like Coach Burns may need to employ some "load management" with his top players. Pretty early in the season for dead legs. That said, Spencer did seem to "front load" its schedule. If they get through the December grind they'll have an easier back half.
North Oldham played a district game v. Trimble County the night before, but I guess they had an easy time with them and didn't wear anyone out.
I think as a Spencer County fan it is encouraging that they are playing even with these top teams with such a short bench. You are correct the second half of the schedule is quite a bit easier so excluding any big injuries they should be ready to go when it matters. Playing all three Oldham county schools in a span of 5 days with a short bench is very taxing. It doesn't get any easier for them with Bullitt East, Warren Central, Bowling Green right around the corner. I think they are getting a good idea where they stand. If they can win against Oldham tomorrow I think they would be feeling pretty good.

ColonelMike, no scoring mentioned for Whitlock of Spencer. Was he in foul trouble? Thought he might put up some points against North Oldham's guards.
Just saw stats. While he didn't have a very good game he did have 7 assist. Mabrey and Whitlock had off nights shooting so kind of surprised that game went to the wire.

He had a tough night. Only went 1-5 shooting for three points. Picked up fourth foul in third quarter. Picked up two fouls helping out on Powell and then a bogus charge call. Had a couple of uncharacteristic unforced turnovers. The fact is his legs are dead. When you play both ends of the court with his intensity it is very difficult to maintain a certain level playing those two quality teams back to back. I just hope Spencer County can give Oldham a good effort tomorrow. It will be tough.

OC may not be as talented as Spencer, but they will probably be longer and deeper. Spencer will need to rest up and prepare for another close one Saturday.
I think they have some size that could hurt Spencer County.

Spencer is 0 for the Oldhams so far this week with a road trip to Oldham County coming up on Saturday. The South Oldham - North Oldham- Oldham County district is a tough one!
I think Spencer County is not too upset. They have taken two top 20 teams in the state to the wire and had a chance to win. Yes that district is tough. No doubt!

Hard to talk about a player being POY coming off a losing effort.
Really. I disagree. Two elite players going head to head. One a senior ranked in the 70's on ESPN signed with Auburn the other just a junior. That was a battle between two of the top teams in 8th on N. Olhams home floor. Don't really think it matters who won. Conley was every bit as good as Powell. Two great players.

Spencer County missed three at buzzer to go to overtime. Time to start mentioning junior Sam Conley as in the running for 8th region player of the year. Powell with 30 and Conley with 26. Spencer County looked a little tired tonight. Lots of unforced turnovers. I don't know how much gas they had in tank after battling South Oldham the night before last. Starters playing alot of minutes. One night rest and on to Oldham County.

I have to know. How many FT attempts for Powell?
It was alot.

I’m not on the inside. I don’t know what he values. I only know what I’ve seen when I watch them play. Every coach says “we have to get stops and create offense with defense” but very few actually do. But to your argument about “holding South”, would you say South held Spencer to 55? Because not even Simpson brags about South holding anyone. They don’t guard and they embrace it.
South Olham is known as being one of the top offensive teams in the state and have been for several years. Spencer County doesn't have that reputation. Several others on here commented the same thing about Spencer holding them to 59. It's only logical that it makes sense that they are a good defensive team. Your comments earlier about Spencer not valueing defense and not being a good defensive team is completely off and incorrect. I would argue that over the last three years they have been one of the better defensive teams in the region. Their defense is why they have won at least 20 games three years in a row.
-
Shootout favors your scorers. If it’s half court, North can run plays for 2 players and dice up the Spencer defense. We both know that Spencer doesn’t value defense. It’s the DNA that Burns comes from. And with their offensive power, they should definitely look to make more games shootouts.
Are you serious? Spencer County just held South Oldham to 59 points. Spencer County has been one of the better defensive teams in the region over the past three years. No disrespect but you are way off. Burns values defense over everything and preaches it to his players.
-
Is Conley hurt already? Also, there’s no one on Spencer that’s going to “guard” Powell. Spencer’s best bet is to make this a shootout. They have more scorers than North. But if this becomes a half court execution game, North wins by double digits.
They don't have to shut him down. Just keep him under 30. I think a half court game actually favors Spencer County. I would have to disagree with you on that one.

If Conley is 100% Spencer could take down North Oldham. If Conley isn't full speed, I'm not sure who guards Justin Powell. Spencer's lack of depth could hurt them.
If Conley is 100% I feel like they should beat North Oldham. Don't think Conley will be the one guarding him anyway. I have a guess as to how they will defend him. It will be interesting to see what Burns comes up with. North Oldham has to figure out how their going to guard 4 different guys that can put up 25 on a given night.

He came back in last 40 seconds limping. Hopefully will be ready for North Oldham Thursday.
-
Heck of a game. Spencer County led til the very end.
-
South Oldham 59 Spencer County 55. Heck of a game. Final.
-
Spencer County fouling.
-
Conley limps back into game.
-
42 seconds. South Oldham 55 SC 52.
-
South Oldham capitalizes with two threes.
-
Conley just went down with sprained ankle.

I would say it's possible that Oldham County goes at least 10 deep and got to play Spencer County at the end of a 5 day juggernaut and Spencer County's starters play 99% of the minutes. I wouldn't assume anything after last nights game. Hopefully they will meet in the regional and we'll get to see a better representation. Like I said Spencer County's starting center didn't play so that makes the rotation even smaller for a team that already has a short rotation.
