The Christian Co. offense has been underwhelming. Receiving core needs improvement but running game has been very solid. A good passing game takes more than a good QB plus the style has been more of a ball control offense from what I've seen. Defense has always seemed to be the Colonels Achilles heel but seems to be there strength this year. Has really been flying around even with 2 starters out for the season. I'm also a huge fan but don't know that I see them as #1 right now. Can definitely get there by season's end but room for improvement as with every team. Mayfield has been very impressive in it's two wins. The top 3 are all very close in my opinion. Think Purple88 may have been trying to motivate BG with this post.

I was really impressed with Caldwell D against Christian Co. Their secondary is really good and although undersized as a whole the D has a lot of experience.

I think the Colonels wish their schedule was a little tougher this year but just way it played out. Be a good chance to see where each of these teams is early on. I see Christian Co being too much for the tigers but not sleeping on them this season. Riley boys are playmakers and that D should be solid.

I was lucky enough to play on this team as a junior. It really could be a story plot. I will try and locate my highlight film and a team photo.
So many aspects of the year made it special. After the passing of Coach Hogg, Willard stepped in and lead the team which had a great group of seniors. Bryce Gibson at QB lead the offense and Cy Dossett lead the defense at safety (also played receiver). Cy set a school record for interceptions that year. Offense was a wing T style offense with a large offensive line. Defensive line rotated 4 guys that I would say averaged close to 290lbs. Extremely large for 2A.
In a preseason scrimmage we were embarrassed by OCath. They scored at will.
Season began and team continued to improve as season went on and just found ways to win. Won first 9 games which clinched the district title. 7 team district at that time and 10th game of the season was against Heath which finished 6th in the district. As mentioned before Heath embarrassed the Trojans 30-0. A lack of focus and looking ahead was liking to blame but it reset our focus and I still feel like we would've never won the region without that loss. Absolute focus was there from then on. 1st and 2nd round games were wins over Butler Co and Monroe County. This lead to the matchup with Owensboro Catholic at Rash stadium. Webster Co. 11-1 and Owensboro Catholic 12-0 and ranked #1 in state.
We rotated defensive coverages and sacked the QB 7 times (had single digit sacks for the entire season I do believe). We jumped out early and totally took the Aces by surprise. Crowd that night was electric, standing room only. A night I will never forget. Jumped out early then held on for the win.
Corbin game was also a really exciting game. Game was at Corbin the day after Thanksgiving. We lead most of the game but a questionable fumble that was returned by Corbin for a TD, a great defensive adjustment by the redhounds and a late interception untimately did us in. A great run.

We do broadcasts on the same channel. We've reciently aquired some extra equipment that should make it possible for us to broadcast the Mayfield/Catholic game and the OHS/BG game. We're gonna test it tomorrow to be sure.
Thanks for listening. We had some great guests!!
Keyron Catlett was great on your show. Topper fans should be excited.

I don't expect this to be close. OHS is much improved but do not match up well with the Purples. They need to get pressure or their secondary will have a hard time with the BG recievers. Also if they can get their running game going and eat up some clock that will help. I just don't think they have enough.
BG 42-7

I actually like 6 classes but just feel only top 2 from each district instead of top 4. Just shortens season by 1 week and will eliminate 90% of those running clocks.

I think this is a mental thing for kids at McCracken. I've seen both teams on film and PRP didn't looked 24 points better but they dominated this game start to finish. Moving forward the Mustangs also need to work on ball security, always seems to be an issue, especially against good opponents.

JDEaston,
Looks like you were pretty accurate with score being similar in Graves Greenwood game.
-
What's your thoughts on the three?
I know the least about Greenwood. Have only seen them on film once and rest is based on their schedule. I know people will disagree but I would rank the 3 as follows.
1. Christian Co.
2. Owensboro
3. Greenwood
All pretty close to each other but I think there is a closer gap between 1 & 2.
-
Not exactly, but there isn't much of a gap between the Gators and the other two. The final score MAY be a little closer than what the final was in the Owensboro and Christian County games, but not much closer, JMO. We play the games for a reason though and anything can happen. Honestly I hope it's an all out war, that's what makes high school playoffs so fun to watch.
That is correct, that is why they play the games. I was just curious, I do not know a whole lot about Greenwood and wondered how good they actually are.
-
Doss and Anderson County could certainly lose in the opening round. I don't see Graves County beating Greenwood or South Laurel beating North Laurel though. North Laurel had no problem whatsoever with South Laurel at the beginning of the season. Greenwood and Graves will likely be a similar score as Graves versus Owensboro/Christian County was.
Are you saying Greenwood is as good as Owensboro & Christian?

Map,
Thanks for posting this! I couldn't make it work at first for whatever reason!
No problem at all. I was surprised that the Colonels held JH to 62 total yards.

Purple88, post #4 on on Christian vs John Hardin thread will give you some insight and stats you ask for. Great job as always you really put in some time and your knowledge on WKY football is impressive. I will add Christian County defense is playing some hard nose football of late. On a side not I was told that Catlett passed Chris Gohman of Elizabethtown for 9th all time receiving yards and is closing in on Chris Lofton for 8th..

We shall see how powerful those western Kentucky teams are soon enough. Johnson Central will not face more athletic teams than they have already faced in the regular season. They are not unbeatable, but they are much, much better than you are giving them credit for, and so is Belfry.
Who is most athletic team they have faced thus far?

Purple88,
I am not sure if Webster Co has or not. They have only actually played a handful of times. I remember going to a good one as a kid at War Memorial in 1993. It was a Playoff match up that ended with a 14-0 win for Mayfield, on their way to a Title.

PTHS is such a Bi Polar team. Haven't been able to get a read on them all year. Hope Coach Barber finally has them headed in right direction but wouldn't be surprised if they turn around and lose to Ft. Campbell.
-
Chris Jung with the Kentucky New Era had Graves Co. with 162 for the game.
-
I think if it rains this one could be a really good game. Feel like Colonels have too much speed for Graves this year.

Eagle_Pride!! - I respect everyone's opinion and love hearing explanations. What thoughts/insight do you have that says the Eagles will pull it out by 2 TDs?

Which of the Bullitt teams seems to be the toughest at this time?

Hopkinsville has some good young talent. I really like the QB. Caldwell game for Hopkinsville was a lot of self inflicted wounds. Tigers controlled game for 3 quarters. Colonels game against Henderson was similar. Maybe they can both figure it out and play complete games. Should be a good environment but I think County will be too much. Think they may get a few players back this week but they are trying to make it to bye week to try and get healthy before district play.
