  1. This Crittenden Co team surprised me last week. I thought they might win but they dominated in every aspect of the game. With Russelville being down I don’t really see another loss on their schedule. They could slip up having to travel to Russelville but they have played well on the road so far this year. Will be great to watch.

The Christian Co team got what they needed from last week, offensive production. The bye week and a Marshall Co defense work wonders for offensive woes (sorry Marshals). This week will be a lot tougher and will be interesting to see if the offense can show improvement in this game. I agree with 88 that this is likely the District championship. Both could slip up down the road as Apollo and Graves are bother improved but I just don’t see that happening. Excited to watch this one.

  2. Christian County has a new QB, Jlin Powell. He came in during the Rossview game and then got the start against Henderson. Will still see some of Abren at QB as well as in other spots as well. Powell is a big kid who has a little better arm than Abren right now and can run a little bit too. They are still trying to figure out new offense and pitch together an OLine. It will be interesting to see if they do going forward.

Hopkinsville has played a tough schedule which will benefit them down the road. They got a tough needed win Friday at Caldwell. Be interesting to see how their offense develops. I expected it to be really good but been hard to judge due to their early opponents. Clayton’s teams always get better as year goes on.

Should be a good one Friday.

  3. I’ve seen both teams this year. Crittenden is best they have been in long time. Defense has shown big step from last years team. Offense has been more balanced but seemed to get complacent in two games I saw(May be due to fact they were blowing out opponents, Trigg game shouldn’t have even been as close as 46-7). Their main issue continues to be turnovers. If they can play this game and not have a turnover they have a shot.

Caldwell looks to struggle on offense right now. Yeah they have played the much tougher schedule which is part of reason the offense hasn’t been as smooth as usual but it has just seemed out of sorts at time which is unusual for them. Also taking Trel off the field takes their best athlete out of the game.

I will be rooting for the Rockets to pull the upset but I don’t think it’s going to happen. I do think it will be closer than the people in Princeton expect it to be. Tigers by 9.

  4. Be interesting being the first year with out Coach Starnes leading the way. Offense will be good and defense should be improved. They played several Freshmen at the end of the season due to injuries which provided great experience. They made a deep run last year but I think that was mostly due to Russellville being in a down year. Both teams will be improved this year and should be a good game again.

  5. Colonels lost a large group of talented seniors. I think 10 or so moved on to play at the next level somewhere? Add in 3 key transfers from the program and you have a lot of shoes to fill. With that being said, several young players got playing time last season and I’m hearing they have had good springs and summers. It will be interesting to see how they have developed. With the change in Offensive Coordinator and personnel I think you will see more of the style of play that Lovelace prefers, field position and ball control. Defense should be pretty good. Offense will be interesting to see. Running back has potential to be extremely good but question will be if they can have a good enough passing game to take the focus off of him. Only time will tell.

  6. That's a pretty tough 2 games whoever it ends up being though. Several teams in top ten and just outside of top 10. Christian Co., South Warren, Graves Co., Apollo, Bowling Green. Oh and don't forget that lowly ole 4 seed Owensboro (don't care what their record is they have talent to compete). Pretty solid region I'd say.

  7. All I know is what I see. I'm not a coach or a police officer. I'm a Dad: my daughter is a varsity Graves cheerleader (I graduated from Mayfield and generally comment on the Cardinals).

Best I can tell (again, from the stands) this started last year at Stadium of Champions when the Eagles visited the Colonels. GC cheerleaders had formed a corridor for their boys to run through as they enter the field from the endzone to the right of the visitor's side. The CC guys came across the field early and deliberately ran through the lines of GC cheerleaders and I believe some were knocked down. Well, I think that was not forgotten when this year some students / players from GC waved their flag at the CC team before the game. I also saw a good goal-line stance by the CC boys (did GC score????) and after the end of the game the CC players (more than 2) threw off their helmets and ran straight to the GC team, cheerleaders, and stands while pounding their chests and making things worse.

Are both sides to blame for the skirmishes? Probably. Could it have been handled better? Probably. Will the next meeting of these two teams be ugly? I certainly hope not. It doesn't have to be this way.

I hope you know I'm only calling it the way I see it.

Also, both teams could have played better and it was anybody's game until the very end.

Last year Graves set their tunnel to run through on Christian County side of the field. Each has a designated warm up side for a reason. Yes it was disrespectful for CCHS players to run through it but would've never happened if the cheerleaders had been on the opposite side of field. Also, most importantly, no cheerleaders we're knocked down.

Now back to this year. Both teams were not at their best and both have faults in the extra activities. Hate it ended that way because it has become a pretty good district rivalry with the number of good games these two teams have had in the past several years.

Good luck to both teams in playoffs.

  8. Great game overshadowed by some minor stuff afterwards that was blown out of proportion by radio and newspaper people. Imagine that!

Graves is a team that is better than record and we'll coached. With Mathis finally starting to get closer to being himself they will definitely be a tough 3 or 4 seed that you don't want to have in your opening round playoff game.

Christian Co. has to improve offensively and limit turnovers in future. As a whole, team needs to get healthy the next few weeks. Some key pieces banged up already and a few more after last night.

  9. Colonels D & Special Teams did a lot of the scoring tonight so the offense didn't have to. Two pick 6, a Fumble return for TD, and blocked punt for TD. Running clock was going in 3rd quarter at 43-7. All this in a game where Christian Co. came out flat and would've been down 14-0 if not for an Apollo fumble on the 2 yd line. The Eagles have some players. #6 would make a lot of coaches happy and if he doesn't have college offers he should.
