  1. Very entertaining game.

I know one thing for certain, you could take some kids from each of these teams and make a heck of a offensive line in football.

A pretty large portion of Somerset's team is comprised of football kids, one of them is the 4 man Collin Hartmann who has some interest from some pretty big time football programs - Ohio State, UK, Louisville, WKU, Georgia Tech, Tennessee among them. Bunch of tough kids, grats on the win BJN

  2. Question is this IMO, accept a PWO at a D1 school or accept a full ride at D2 and/or NAIA? Money talks.

Also why are these kids only offered PWO's and not full scholarships? Kentucky has certainly made more than their fair share of mistakes when it comes to judging in-state talent. See the Elam kid as reason number 1 and he is just one in a long line of blunders that staff has made.

All three of those guys are fantastic players, congrats. UK visiting Collin Hartmann from Somerset as well (6'5 260 DE) i'm told, we'll see how that goes. Vancleave can play for anyone with that speed, I am SO glad he's graduating!

  3. It was a great block. We were all surprised it was called... a few times during the game, it seemed like they thought they were reffing a flag football game. I get that it's a rule, but it's football. There were shady calls and missed calls, but it didn't matter thankfully.

And I agree with wireman. Somerset came to play last night. Their defense was able to stop us like no one else has been able to this season. I was impressed. And they never gave up, not even down to the last play just trying to get a score on the board. It was way too close for comfort as an Admiral fan but good game to them!

It’s tough to be a good team in a great district. Somerset loses some play makers but based off what they return they’ll likely have a strong say in the district next year.

Beat the eagles guys, good luck the rest of the year.

  4. Among the big names I believe LCA has one of the easiest paths. The two seed from district 7 is the place to be. The northern side has some good teams, the southern side has LCA, Danville, and probably a long shot but Somerset is tough. LCA will have to beat Danville or Somerset, then win a game against an NKY team like Lloyd, NCC or Walton. I hate to take shots at other programs but LCA basically gets a bye til regional play. For Danville or Somerset to come out of the east and win it they will have to play 4 top ten teams starting week 2 of their playoff run.

  5. Can someone confirm has Somerset had injuries that has held them back on offense. I heard this on the radio last night and was just wondering. I think the Ads have lost a little of their defensive focus lately but will be tuned in come LCA.

They got a few people back last night but have had some season ending injuries throughout the year. Just getting more work in with those guys has helped id guess.

Ads have a good football team. Vancleave may be one of the fastest human beings on the planet. Jumpers did a good job with Donleavy, that was kind of expected since their interior 7 is really good but when vancleave got loose nobody was catching that kid.

  6. That is a pretty solid Top 10. Regardless of records, I still think the top 5 are interchangeable and are set apart from the next 5. The next 5 are also interchangeable 6-10.

You try way too hard not to be a homer. Lets see how the Jumpers play against the next three opponents, maybe they can compete and maybe they can't... It wasn't THAT long ago that Somerset was dominating the district, so its obviously possible.

  7. Ok you lost me when you said Somerset would have won handily. Bourbon County beat you fair and square. Stop using the injury excuse. Bourbon was depleted that game as well. Top CB out (Cornett wouldn't have been able to "push" him out of the way for a TD like he did the freshman replacement. BTW, that offensive interference wasn't called) Bourbon was the better team that night and would likely be another close game if they played again.

We each have our own opinion, I'll stand by mine. It's not that bourbon has a bad team, Somerset is just really good at all levels of their defense when healthy; I think that has at the very least been proven in the 5 games since the Death Valley bowl.

  8. If I may ask, What happened to Somerset's defense against Bourbon County? Was the Quickness & Speed of the Colonels Titus Ransom & Dalen Landrum not been matched by Hazard, Rockcastle County or other Briar Jumper Opponents? Maybe Defensive adjustments were made.

No most of Somersets opponents have had good speed. I was hammered on another forum for saying this but almost all of bourbons positive Offense came vs a matchup they found and exploited over some very inexperienced secondary players. Somerset was down 6 secondary players that night from camp injuries and a couple in game injuries, they were literally playing 4 freshman back there most of the night. Bourbon fans will disagree, that is fine, but the jumpers would have won that game handily were it not for that fact.

  9. I'd also like to add that LCA's success came from finding great ways to get to Dampier. They made some fantastic adjustments to get the MLB and OLB into the backfield and that really disrupted the Ads passing attack. If the Ads don't find a way to stop that if a future rematch happens (and slow down LCA's potent running attack), then LCA is heading to the state semis.

Wheatley is a hard back to tackle late in ball games. Somerset had them beat until about 6 minutes left in the ball game... he got stronger as they got worn down.

The playoff run won't be easy for anyone in district 7, all three are capable of beating each other in my opinion.

  10. 4 of 5 skill position starters for LCA on State Champion Track Team this year, that competed against Danville and smoked them. Speed kills, but not when it's even.

I can only tell you what I saw with my own two eyes. Isaiah Cornett smoked their secondary twice for a big gain and a TD and NOBODY on LCA's team could catch Doan when he got the edge twice and scored. Both of those guys have great speed, Danville has guys that are just as fast if not faster. Football speed and track speed are often not comparable.

It wouldn't totally shock me to see LCA in the win column on Friday but I wouldn't bet my house on it either.

  11. After seeing both I'll offer this insight:

Danville is the better football team; LCA is the more unconventional football team. Nothing LCA does defensively will give the admirals a whole lot of problems. LCA struggled to stop Doan and the Cornett kids from Somerset because they have good speed. Danville has that kind of speed at almost every skill position and they have a solid interior as well.

Harris is a good running back, finds the creases and you cannot load the box on Danville because they throw the ball really well.

LCA has a two headed monster in the backfield with 12 and 32, both in tandem can create problems for opposing defenses but with Danvilles overall team speed I don't see it becoming much of an issue. 32 may get his, 12 may get his but I don't see both getting theirs in one night against Danville.

Somerset played both teams really close, couldn't make the plays late to close out the LCA game and the offense was a no show against Danville. Danville is the better football team although I'd rather play LCA again in round two as I believe all three teams will win their opening playoff games by large margins.

  12. Let's be honest here and call this game like it is.. This game has now become a statement game for Rockcastle. Every player and every fan has a bitter taste of defeat in their mouths and every player has said they feel as if they should have never lost last week and never once thought they would. This game can go one of two ways and I really only see it going one. Rockcastle has to put the Pulaski game in the rear view mirror and move on and forget about it other wise it could carry over and cost them another loss that they should win. Rock has to come out and play very aggressive as they have in every game on defense and hopefully they do the same on offense. These boys are only a few mental plays away from going from a really good team to playing in the regional championship game to go to state. They are hungry and have the desire to achieve great things. Im hoping they come out strong and put Somerset away quick. Lets face it no team is going to beat Rock by solely running the football. Our run defense is one thing that speaks for itself. Bourbon Co(-30 rushing) South Laurel(33) Garrard(119-running clock at halftime and JV played; negative yards for Foley at halftime) Pulaski(6 and was in negative at half; only had 150 total yards including passing. Those 6 even include using Jake Johnson in the wildcat.) Given how well we play against the run and that im sure somerset is going to try and incorporate Doan in beating us he will have to do so with his ability to pass if they are going to have any success. Given that somerset has 986 rushing yards and about half that passing I don't see them being able to beat Rock. They can line him up in the Wild cat or Wild Doan and we should be fine stopping the run portion as we did against the speed of Jake Johnson. I call this a statement game in which Rock's defense shows off and ends this game for a good solid win for Rock.

    Rock 42

    Somerset 21

Rock is big, physical, runs well and they are good at what they do. My only prayer is that Somerset just scores maybe once and everybody stays healthy. Somerset may give up more than 42 against a team that is as versatile as Rock and dynamic offensively. With posts like this I can't see any way Somerset competes.

In all seriousness Its going to be a good game between two good football teams so don't post this pipe dream garbage that they're 3 TD's better than a good Somerset team with one loss to a perennial NKY small school power. Looking forward to Friday.

  13. Somerset has its best passing game thus far. I look for Reece to get it going in the air. Doan will be effective in the run game. I'd guess somewhere around 150 yards out of him would be good. Beechwood's passing game wont hurt Somerset and their running back and line is nowhere near what they had last year. Stringer killed them last year. They didn't have an answer for him what so ever. I'll take the Briar Jumpers in this one by at least 2 scores.

I hope you're right! But if the jumpers are fortunate enough to win Friday I don't think you're looking at 2 scores difference. Beechwood may be young but they're still beechwood.

  14. I'm just not sure if Somerset's improvement and Beechwood's drop are enough to close the gap...that's where I'm at with it.

That's because you are a consummate pessimist.

Beechwood is worse than last year, Somerset is better. 4 TDs better? Who knows, defensively Beechwood must be pretty tough to keep all of LMs athletes in check. I DO believe it will be a close ball game, I dont know who wins but Itl be nice to see NKY competition early in the season. No matter the talent drop off they're always fundamentally sound which presents problems for anybody
