Did Southwestern have Hutchinson, Simpson and Dumphord?
yes had all 3. Hutchison was really good in the game. Southwestern actually went 10-23 from 3. They look like a top 5 team in the 12th to me. Adair is just really good they played 4 upcoming seniors and 1 junior the whole game and never subbed, with the tallest one being 6'2. All 5 of those were in the rotation of the region title team last year. Whenever they get Coomer and Cochran back they will be a top 10 team in the state most likely

Thought we should start a thread of updates from summer games.
Yesterday reigning 5th region champion Adair County defeated Clinton County 65-55 and Southwestern Pulaski 74-66. Adair is currently without 6'7 Isaiah Cochran who is out for the summer with an injury and also 6'6 double figure guy Brayton Coomer.

Miles replaces former coach Steve Barker. The last 2 seasons Miles was head coach at Thomas Nelson. Caverna returns a lot of talent, especially in the sophomore class and will be projected as a top 5 team in the region for the next 2 seasons.

Former Taylor County head coach Montrelle Irvin has taken an associate head coaching job with Green County. Irvin was replaced by Josh Kays as head coach at Taylor this offseason.

If the injury was as severe as I heard will he be back for the start of the season? or the season in general? Prayers for a good recovery.
Ended up a better prognosis than believed. 4-5 month return to sports.

Some of the more recent big news out of the 5th region is the injury to Cochran from Adair. He had a severe leg/ankle injury in AAU a few weeks ago. Should be back before the season but will miss the entire summer.

Cochran from Adair won't be participating as he had a bad ankle/leg injury during an AAU even 2 weeks ago.

Yes doesn't make much sense to me tbh went 19-10 and 17-11 last 2 seasons. Did not make region but that district has been really competitive lately and losing to Larue last year in district shouldn't be seen as disappointing to me.

What's happening is better players don't want to average 20 ppg at their school and win 10 games and not make the region tournament. They'd rather average less at another school and win 20-25 games and make a postseason run.
-
Heard yesterday Steve Barker is out at Caverna after 2 seasons. Not sure if this was by his choice or not. This could be a very attractive job as Caverna went 17-11 last season and return 4 of their top 6 players led by Jaylin Crane at point guard who has a D1 offer. Craine and 2 other starters have 2 years left as well.

Well to answer one of those questions, Weis will not return for Washington County. He is heading to prep school according to social media posts from a few days ago.
Yes this should rule Washington out as a contender. I think the region will be a 5-6 horse race next year. Adair, Caverna, Larue, Green, Taylor could sneak in if have additions. Central could be solid but no Decker.

Still hearing it'll be Josh Kays

Maze Stallworth announced he was the the new head coach this morning. He previously was an assistant at Washington County with past head coaching stops at Taylor County and Casey County. He won the region with Taylor in 2017. Thomas Nelson has had limited success the past few seasons.

Now that the season is over we look to next year.
Adair County- Can they repeat? They return their top 7 scorers from the region championship team led by Cochran and Loy. Last year a target wasn't on their back but now they will have a big one.
Bethlehem- Region runner up last year as a surprise. Can they replicate things or was this a one off? They lost some key pieces but do return their best player Nick Osborne.
North Hardin- Last year was supposed to be their season with a loaded roster but they fell short in the region semis. How will they bounce back after losing their top 3 players Smith, Boykins, and Wiley.
Central Hardin- Another team who went all in on last season but lost in the first round of the district. They lose region player of the year Decker, as well as Ace Jaggers, and Donovan Stone. Should be a young team next year.
Elizabethtown- Could the Etown run of dominance be over now? They lost the Evans brothers as well as 2 other starters. Will James Haire retire or keep coaching?
Taylor County- The cardinals beat Adair for the district but was upset first round of region by Bethlehem. Now changes occur as Montrelle Irvin is out as head coach. They also must replace 3 starters in Clements, Wise, and Johnson. Could it be a rebuilding year? A lot probably depends who the coach will be.
Green County- They was upset in the first round of district but return all but one starter though he was a big contributor. They will have Blakeman and Marr two of the top 10 players in the region so this is their chance to make a run if they are going to do it with a big senior class.
Caverna- They were young last year but made some noise though going out first round of district. Their top 2 guys in Craine and Martin return, will they finally get out of district and make a region run?
Larue County- Arguably the favorites in the region last year going into it they was upset in the semis by Bethlehem. They lose top player Daniel Allen but everyone else returns. They should be in the thick of the region contenders once again.
Washington County- The big question here is will Gabe Weis return? Prep school rumors are out there for him and they lost multiple starters around him.

This is mind blowing tbh. Who will even the candidates for this job? If you are letting a legend like coach Woods go you better have someone big in mind.
-
Either that or potentially a star football/basketball player heading to another 12th region school. that's the other option from rumors I heard lately.
-
5th region could be weakest in my lifetime. Here is examples of how much everyone loses that were contenders this year.
Adair- they lose their 8th man but everyone else returns.
Central Hardin- Decker, Stone, Jaggers. that's their top 3 scorers
North Hardin- Boykins, Smith, Wiley, Ross all gone, that's 2 lead scorers and 2 other starters
Etown- Alex and Ayden Evans, Durbin, Hanier, Moberly. that's 2 lead scorers and 3 other rotation players
Larue- Lead scorer and rebounder Daniel Allen is gone
Caverna- Rowlett, and Barker 2 starters are gone
Green County- Mckinney the teams best defender who starts is gone
Washington County- 4 starters besides Gabe Weis are gone
Taylor County- Wise, Clements, Johnson, 3 starters gone.
Bardstown- Lead scorer and 2 other starters are gone.

Doesn’t Adair County have a lot of players back?
Adair returns their top 7 in the rotation led by Connor Loy and Isaiah Cochran two guys with D1 offers. They def could be a heavy favorite in the 5th with as much as the region loses and arguably top 10-15 in the state after making the final 8 this year.
