  1. Hey I am with you, but my opinion is that they have to spread the love. LOL but then again I also have my other opinion but I wont' post. We all know why, but I could be wrong. At least 3 or 4 Lex Catholic should have made that team. Talbott, Johnson, Ryan and the other guard ( Jarrod ). Oh well they play on.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think it is a season long award, not just an all tournament team type of thing. So progression in the postseason isn't factored in as far as I know. Similar to the All-American awards being announced in college basketball this week.

I don't have the list of players handy at the moment but just off my memory of seeing the players last night I think it would be a difficult case to argue against those that were on it for the other LexCath players you've mentioned.

  2. I wouldn't say they missed a lot of easy shots. Looked like they forced quite a few bad shots. Too many 3pt attempts early. Let Talbott get to the basket. Should have probably zoned them and made Talbott shoot the ball. He is too dangerous off the dribble.

Well...they certainly settled for too many jumpshots and didn't take it to the basket as much as they should have. However they had shots in the lane that rimmed out. I know Jordan Houston had multiple shots that he typically makes. That's what I was thinking of. If a few of them had dropped I think it would have helped them a lot. In elimination games with high schoolers bad things tend to snowball and momentum can be a huge factor.

But yeah, you're right, many of the jumpshots they settled for were bad shots. Me and the guys I was with even talked about how it reminded us of the Henry Clay teams 2 and 3 years ago with Green, Cunningham, etc. They had a ton of talent but settled for jumpshots far, far too often instead of taking it to the rim.

I actually think that is what makes LexCath so good. Their players seem to be very aware of their strengths and weaknesses as players. Most of the time they do their best to play to the strengths and avoid being forced into the weaknesses.

  3. He was on the bench tonight.

I didn't listen to the whole broadcast but kind of unknown what the situation was and didn't hear if it was anything that was like "the rest of the season or whatever".

Could have been a one game thing. I was a little surprised that it was him honestly.

From the comments I overheard from the Bryan Station fans tonight it sounded like something that should have been taken care of before the game and wasn't. Also sounded like it could be taken care of before Tuesday's game. Whether it will be taken care of by then or if those people even knew what they were talking about remains to be seen.

  4. I agree with most have put here. I think Szabo is a great defensive coach, I'm not sure about the other side of the ball though. The team that won state had so many great athletes and they were perfect for his in your face, wear you down, defensive pressure. Not that this team didn't have athletes but this time had a ton of offensive fire power IMO. If they would have been allowed to play a more open style of play I'd hate to know how many teams they would have been able to just simply outscore. Not many teams can score 80+, I think this Trinity team had the talent to do that regularly.

  5. Henry County was rocking tonight but my Lord, it had to have been 90 degrees in there. They turn the giant fans off during the game because someone thinks they mess with shots. Kinda doubt that. I can't imagine how hot the players were. It is a good atmosphere but wish they would sell programs, do other regions still do that?

I saw programs at the 13th on Friday, 11th on Saturday, and 16th on Sunday. I did not see them at the 12th on Saturday.

    Yes, I get around.

  6. Catholic completely dominated this game from start to finish. Henry Clay came out and missed quite a few easy shots and it seemed to really hurt them mentally. It was looking like Henry Clay would go into the half in single digits until they got a couple buckets late to get to ten points. It was 25-10 at the break. In the second half LexCath looked like they were going to immediately put it away but Henry Clay cut it to 9 and had a lot of momentum. LexCath then went to Johnson on the block for an easy bucket, Johnson hit a three the next trip down, and then Griffin hit a three the next trip down. All of that happened very quickly and the game was essentially over. Lexington Catholic played extremely well tonight, as good as I've seen them play all year. Of course Bryan Station looked good tonight too so it should be a great matchup but I suppose that would be saved for another thread.

  7. Interesting video. When I watched it live I thought LexCath was fortunate that it ended up just being a double T and nothing more on the Knights end. I think that was Coach Wise as the color guy.

I was also impressed by how well Woodford County played. They had a freshman, Chandler Stewart, score like 14 for them today. From looking at the KHSAA's website it doesn't look like he played much, they have him at 1.7 points per game in only 12 games. Of course the last few don't have stats reported but I don't recall him playing in the District final against Franklin Co. My point being they got quite a few key points from a seemingly unexpected source.

  8. This should answer the question as to what region is refereeing which regional tournament.

Since it took me a bit to figure out the table I thought I'd type it out. According to the link...

3rd Region Tournament will get officials from 2nd.

5th Region Tournament will get officials from 6th.

6th Region Tournament will get officials from 5th.

7th Region Tournament will get officials from 8th.

8th Region Tournament will get officials from 11th.

16th Region Tournament will get officials from 9th.

  9. I was looking all this up for my own curiosity so decided to add it here...

According to Mike Fields tweet the other night Justice has 3494 career points. That would keep his 5th all time at the moment.

    4337 Kelly Coleman

    3647 Charlie Osborne

    3567 Harry Todd

    3542 Chris Harrison

    3494 Camron Justice

According to KHSAA's website, Justice is averaging 24.3 points per game this year. At that rate...

48 points behind Harrison so he would catch him in about 1.98 games. So he'd likely get to 4th in the Region semis, maybe the finals.

73 points behind Todd so he would catch him in about 3.004 games. So he'd likely get to 3rd in the Region finals, maybe the 1st game at Rupp.

153 points behind Osborne so he would catch him in about 6.3 games. The 6th game would be the State semis to if he were to get to 2nd all time it would likely be in that game or the state title game.

The snow certainly didn't help his chances of getting to #2 . Maybe he can have some big games this week in the Region.

  10. The year Buckhorn defeated Knott really was no shock. Buckhorn was senior dominated with one of those being Matt Day and this years senior class for Knott were freshmen. If I remember right it was 57-55 at their place. That same year Buckhorn knocked Perry out in the first round of districts when Perry was the favorite to win the region.

All of this is dead on.

  11. Seems to me that anyone insistent on this is just trying to find any petty reason for Mason's (or any other host team's) success other than giving credit to their team.

By the way, this comes from Montgomery County graduate who has seen the Royals beat the Indians more times than I can count. Including in the region final at Mason County my senior year.

  12. IMO it would be hard to get all Mason County fans to move to the other side of the gym, especially because some of them have sat in the same seat for years. I also think that Mason County should always sit on the home side bench due to the fact that their cheering section will most likely be behind that bench the whole tournament.

Agreed. It just seems to create unnecessary confusion and potential for conflicts. For example, where Mason's student section typically sits. If I recall correctly it been right behind their bench.

  13. Scott was the home team on the scoreboard and sat on the home team bench last night despite Campbell hosting. It's the way it should be. Benches should follow the tourney setup no matter who is hosting.

It does happen, I said that. But the home team stays where they usually are far more often from what I've seen.

I don't think it "should be" that way. I don't think it even matters.

  14. Going to be a fun tournament. I predict Station vs Lafayette and Henry Clay vs Catholic followed by Catholic vs Station with LexCath winning the regional.

I'd take Station over LexCath but agree on every other pick. Though I wouldn't be surprised if any of Madison Central, Bryan Station, Lafayette, Henry Clay, or Lexington Catholic won it.

  15. From my general experience, if the home team is playing in a tournament they sit on their normal bench whether they are home/away on the scoreboard. I've seen them switch benches on rare occasion but whether it be the post season or a regular season tournament they usually keep their bench. Makes sense to me.

  16. I think Lincoln is favored with Boyle and Wayne being right there. I also think Mercer, West Jessamine and Southwestern are capable of winning a few games. I would say 3 favorites, 3 with a puncher's chance and 2 that can spring an upset in the quarterfinals.

I think that is spot on. Personally I might put SW a little ahead of Mercer and West Jess but that is just splitting hairs.

As was already mentioned, Lincoln having this at home is a big advantage. I also think it's a big help to their chances that they'll have to beat at most 1 of Boyle/Wayne.
