I hope Ballard's focus is on tonight's opponent and that they are not looking forward to the state tournament yet. Manual is a quality opponent with a stud player in Dwayne Sutton. Ballard is the better team and should win, but the better team does not always win.
Hard to figure out Manual. They lose to Dunbar and Male and only have a handful of quality wins. Impressive against Central once, lose the next time they play them. Hoping Bruins don't suffer from Shamrock Shake hangover. If they shoot the three well- and they do (they've knocked down close to 300 of them this year)- they should win going away.

They'd miss Kratholm. That man-kid could go for 25 a night. Unless he played for Cobra Kai.
Also went to Waggener as part of a certain AAU team coached by you know who. Kid lives in Oldham County. Has to be the first Oldham County kid to go to Waggener since never.
-
I stand corrected. They are still potentially and issue in the top half of the bracket. IMO
Doss is really good with Jefferson. Scary good
-
I would not count out Doss if they make it from 6th region. They have lost 6 games this year, 2 Ballard, Trinity, Taylor, Dunbar(OT) and a bad loss to Christian County. The losses to Ballard, Trinity and Taylor all came without Tyler Jefferson. If you have had a chance to watch them with and without, he makes a huge difference. I am a little bias, I guess, but I am a realist at the same time. If they get by Desales, for the 4th time this year, they could cause some serious issues.
Jefferson played in Ballards win over Doss in the LIT.

Thankfully my team is still alive... When the season ends I will once again make my pilgrimage to Knightstown, Indiana. Hoosier gym is where they filmed the home games for Hickory in the movie Hoosiers. It's just 20 miles east of Indy. " I'll make it coach."

You missed it. I'm on your side. The T posters are the one who say we can't question anything in regards to Szabo.
Szabo didn't guard Ballards Jamil Wilson... Did anybody? He had his way with a bevy of slower T players. The same thing that continues to haunt Quentin Snider at UofL haunted him in last years game. He has problems stopping guards who dribble drive. Stafford killed Ballard last year when going to the bucket. Wilson put a stop to that. I feel bad for those T kids... But life goes on. Both Kelan Martin and Snider are doing quite well these days. Trinity players are high character guys that'll be fine. Szabo will take a less talented bunch and bring out the best in them next year.

I've never seen a team that bellyaches and complains when a foul has been called on them like Taylor County. I witnessed it firsthand at the KOB.
-
No reason Doss shouldn't get out of the 6th. By far more talent and athleticism than other 3 remaining. That being said, Doss has walked a fine line as of late and seem primed to be upset.
Did Doss big man Jefferson coming back to the team have anything to do with WKU grayshirting him in football? I was curious to why he left the team then came back. He's a difference maker when he's engaged.

Craziness in the 7th. Every single year. :lol2:
Ballard really penetrates and kicks out well for open 3s. Last years bunch didn't buy into that as much.
-
Too much speed. Ballard had another gear in the 4th quarter. Agreed- Spalding doesn't get the ball much but on the other hand he doesn't seem to want it either. Go Bruins!
-
Not as much chatter as I predicted.
Baiter fail.
-
Trinity's length is primarily Raymond Spalding. No other player on their roster screams length to me.
Thieneman is 6-6. Ramser is 6-4. Ballard has one big who is 6-8. No other player is over 6-3.
-
Wasn't the LIT, KOB maybe?
Yep. KOB... They're all starting to run together at this point!
-
Waggener does have talent but I believe their main point guard is out for the season. What Waggener is really missing is decent coaching. Unless the kids AAU coach behind the bench, the coaching is missing most of the time.
I believe their main point guard is Devin Cooper...he scored 26 last night and averages around 18. If Kevin Kirby were playing Waggener wouldve probably won by more. That AAU coach stocked the team two years ago; since then there have been two transfers. One transfer starts for FC the other at Central. That AAU coach was also a part of one of the biggest point shaving scandals in NCAA history.
-
This score is surprising. I realize Ballard is number 1 ranked and has lost only twice, but didn't they barely squeak past Central by 4 on their home court a few weeks ago?
Ballard has had more than a couple of closer games in the last two weeks versus regional opponents. They've had to play and beat both Central and Eastern three times. The interesting part of the season now begins...If the 7th region plays out to script they will have to play two teams they have not played yet this year- Trinity and Manual. Manual and Ballard were cancelled because of weather. Trinity lost to Central in the LIT so that game never materialized. Ballard adjusted to Centrals run out breaks and Corey Douglas nearly pulled off a triple double last night. Trinitys length will most likely deny him a repeat performance. Ballards speed most likely will cause problems for the rocks. Somethings gotta give!
-
Somebody says that every year about the 7th. Doesn't usually happen that way. Impressive by the Bruins, though.
Newport Catholic had Ballard on the ropes in the LIT. Covington Catholic is way strong and Taylor County is as fast as any team in the state. Wide open sweet 16! Best state tournament in years...mark it down.
-
Of course Waggener can Beat St X. That is a homer talking.
I also think Waggener is more than capable. If Kirby is back theyre hard to defend inside. (6-7, 6-6,6-5) The sophomore guard is really good also. Sure St. X can shoot...but they will have problems with Waggeners height. If Jaalim Hill scores 15 or more- look out.

1. Whose to say they would switch and in the instance they did I would feel comfortable with Perry shooting a jump shot over a 6'9 player with a 7'5 wingspan.
Perry would blow by him and then dunk and then blow a kiss to his mom as he got back on defense.
-
OK, I am trying to piece this together from the posts above. Eastern had a 7 or 8 point lead in the fourth quarter yet they constantly fouled Ballard and Ballard went 17-18 from the foul line in the fourth to get the win. Is that what happened?
News flash... Ballards really good. It's a rivalry game. Ballard has beaten then three times this season. That's all folks!
-
Fern Creek wins this game. Bullitt East struggled with a depleted Whitefied team (start out whole game, 1 or 2 more players at point through out game). Defense will dictate the game and it sharpe has to handle the ball plus score East will be in for a long night.
Fern Creek has taken on the personality of their coach. They are smart and enthusiastic and they can be fearless. The learning curve takes freshmen players a little longer to get there- they've arrived. They don't have a wait till next year attitude anymore.

You don't need a big to pull him out. You can pull him out for a pick and roll to get him away from the basket. Ballard can run pick and roll with Wilson/Douglas, Eaves/Douglas, Perry/Douglas to pull Ray away from the basket all day. I personally would take the Perry/Douglas pick and roll all day with Ray 1 on 1 on the perimeter against JP.
Ballard has depth now also. They're getting points and rebounds from the bigs coming off the bench. Those role players are tough too. Dare I say this is a rare year where Trinity may be a little soft? Theineman provides some toughness- but who else does? Ballard will body-up this year-
-
Trinity.
Ballard. Faster better and they move the ball around better than last years team.
-
I feel the same way. Bad timing. I hate for his teammates and for him.
He lit up Ballard about two weeks ago at Ballard. Sad.
-
Had to have happened after their last game. He played the other day according to the stats reported.
Happened at school apparently. Gotta hope he doesn't lose his scholarship. Bad decisions...it's been that kinda week.
Can Ballard get it done as the favorite this year.

Male and Dunbar are a combined 29-29.
