  1. Why do you want them in the playoffs?

My thoughts are this: more players are susceptible to injury, schools lose money, most schools didn't earn the bid to get in, and most of those teams don't want to be there period. Other schools have to fight for playoff spots-- 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A schools. Top three teams, first seed with a bye, like I said before. It would build more competition.

You are speaking from one point of view. My senior year we hosted a four seed and got beat in the first round. Are you saying they shouldn't have even had the opportunity to be there? 3A District 8 will likely sweep District 7 in the first round. You're saying Magoffin County and Breathitt County are more deserving to be there than Sheldon Clark and Pike Co. Central, even though SC and PCC will likely win their first round road playoff games.

  2. Another factor in this game I believe will be field conditions. I think the Royals dont handle a sloppy feild good at all. Referencing the Lewis Co. and Russell games. I agree Mason will win in a close one, but all things equal I wouldnt be surprised to see Estill get the W (with good conditions). But if its a sloppy field then....... it may not be pretty for the Royals.

I agree that a sloppy field most likely plays in Estill's favor. Both teams like the spread look, but I see Estill handling the sloppy conditions better because of Jones's mobility.

  3. Awesome words to hear coach. A lot of people are already calling for us to struggle next season with all the experience we lose but if this big upcoming senior class can get in the weight and inspire the young kids to do the same, we will be very competitive next year. I also agree that we are the best team not playing a game this upcoming Friday. I played in two playoff games in high school and while we didn't win one, it was always special to me not knowing when my last game was going to be. My heart goes out to those seniors who are reflecting on those Friday Night Lights and realizing they'll never get that feeling again. Believe me seniors, it doesn't get any easier.

  4. By looking at this scale, Ohio teams would garner more points by playing good KY teams and beating them rather than playing and beating good OH teams. Am I correct?

Why else do you think Ironton was so eager to schedule another Kentucky team when Raceland called? Ironton loves that they (usually) beat up on Russell and Ashland and those schools usually get them a lot of points. So when the smaller Raceland Rams who have a very good program and consistently win 7-10 games a year called, Ironton was all aboard.

  5. Thanks for your input coach. We really moved the ball at will in the second half, no one is to blame for what happened. Play calls were at times questionable (I would have given the ball to Stamm and Everman on first and second down on the last set of downs we had). But I really liked what i seen out of our backfield and i actually think having Everman in there at fullback made a huge difference. If that could have been our backfield all year with Thurman at guard, our offense would have been a lot better, IMO.

  6. Ironton wins 28-13. I think the Ram defense will pose some problems for the Tigers, especially in the first half. But in the end Ironton is just too big and physical and don't let us forget they are at home. Good luck Rams, I hope you prove me wrong and bring a W back to this side of the river.

    - Western Hills vs. Shelby Co doesn't help anyone

    - Bourbon has to beat GRC to even have a chance

    - Estill only has one real swing game, they need Magoffin to beat Lewis Co. In case of a 2nd level tiebreaker they also need Jackson Co to defeat Clinton Co.

    - Garrard needs help big time! They need Casey County to upset Adair and they need Wayne County to win a 50/50 game vs. Rockcastle County.

    - Morgan vs. Powell really has no effect on Estill since they will count both teams... but Bourbon desperately needs a Powell County win to maximize points. They also need a Breathitt County upset win and for Magoffin, Casey Co, and Wayne Co to all lose.

    - Estill appears to be in the best spot.

Certainly an interesting case for Magoffin. They won their district but if they lose to Lewis County will have lost to two different 3A teams who missed out on the playoffs all together.
