  1. Yes. The girls met the new coach today. His name is Micah Montecalvo. I was told that he has coached AAU but not high school ball (but a quick twitter search looks like he may have been at Grant) I believe he is currently coaching KY Premier.

Coached freshman at Grant Co for several years.

  2. Niece won it last year.

These are seniors only. You may be talking about the award she was given by Northern Kentucky Coaches which is given by Divisions to Boone, Kenton, and Campbell schools. I believe she has won that award for Division I schools at least 2 years in a row.

  3. I congratulate Miss. Clifford on her season and being named POY of the region. Two players were deserving, only one can be named. I don't believe there are any "politics" involved here. Niece played only 4 games in the region, while Clifford played 16 games in the region. Clifford, while deserving, had a lot more opportunity to make an impression with 8th region coaches.

My understanding is that only seniors are awarded this honor and Clifford deserves the honor. Niece will be eligible next year if coaches want to vote for her then.

  4. Someone explain the pick for the 9th region. Not even the best player in her district, maybe third best in the 35th.

Who makes this decision or places the votes for this award? Who represented the 9th region for this vote? Who voted for

I completely agree. Jenna Martin is the best Sr in the 9th region. Allie is a nice player but Jenna is the best in the 9th.

We saw this last night when Martin kept Johnson from scoring when she was guarding Allie and yet Jenna had 14 points when she played less than 3 quarters. Allie's is a great player with a lot of points but I would always choose someone who can play both offense and defense and usually plays all 32 minutes with 100%+ intensity.

  5. Okay, didn't see the game and even with me bleeding blue, I'm a little surprised at this score. Not that the Birds won, just by the margin. Birds fighting some injuries and really not playing all that well lately. Any details?

You should have been there. It a great game for both teams, however HHS played a gritty second half.

  6. Here in Kenton County, we had a HC terminated because a parent over heard the coach saying a four letter word in the locker room at half time. We live in a PC world and are evaluated by people who never worked in athletics.

I assume that parent never said a four letter word at work or in front of there child!?! (You know the saying, "People is glass houses . . . . .) While I agree appropriate language around children should be used, I also understand no one perfect and situations can get heated.
